The property itself minus the below was pleasant enough, good space, comfortable large bed, sky windows were nice with the rain.
My review negatives reflect the purpose of my stay - if not for this being a “take the dog” type holiday I would score higher - the owners were helpful and accommodating when I explained the whole pet friendly issue and tried to help with alternatives where they could - which was suffice for our stay - however it wouldn’t be fair to others looking for a similar trip for me to not reflect my feedback - in a sense we were lucky the owners were away themselves with some of the below.
Not pet friendly, garden not secure and leads onto busy enough road. Our stay was for a holiday with the dog, the biggest want was a good garden secure space we could have him off lead when he goes out and we could sit out with him, this wasn’t possible with this property - I had to manoeuvre my car at the bottom of the drive in the bushes partly and use the black waste bin to create a “block” to allow the dog to roam… only possible as owners were on holiday, otherwise would have been a nightmare if they needed to come and go from their property.
Property on land of owners which was not clear from the listing and can be awkward if you don’t like that kind of stay - as the windows all face the owners property
WiFi extremely slow - and 4G network struggled in area so difficult to plan journeys using maps!
Kitchen lacked some basics e.g. kitchen roll, non-metal spatulas and adequate baking trays etc.

There is very little to even think about disliking about this property. It's a small but very cute little house, perfect for a couple with a fantastic kitchen, living area, and bathroom. The bed is very comfortable, there is plenty of space, and the free parking is a huge bonus.
The location is absolutely perfect for exploring the local area but you will need a car as public transport is not readily available. It's about a ten minute drive from Cheddar, about thirty mintues to Weston-Super-Mare and to Wells, and the nearby pubs are amazing with excellent food and a fine selection of drinks.
This only issue is the front door requires a bit of a force to properly shut, but the host came out and was an utter delight as she showed us the trick to getting it to work.

Specially chosen, location wise, for travelling around Somerset and revisiting Axbridge. Pub at end of village does superb food. Book to avoid disappointment. Quiet location. Good wifi. Parking beside property. Attentive host. Good facilities and use of outside space for sitting out. Secure room for bikes etc. Good information pack for visitors.
Nothing. Really enjoyed our stay in a small village setting.

The Story House was well-equipped and in a good location for exploring the coast and the hills. The bed and the chairs and sofa were very comfortable - a real bonus!
Everything was good.

Fantastic location. Very spacious. Loved all the information for local walks and food straight out of the front door.
Melanie was lovely and although we had no issues she would have been only too happy to help.
The photos don't do it justice!
Thankyou 😊

Spacious and quiet, felt like home, beautiful log fire (with wood provided), big bedroom and great location to explore the area. Melanie was very helpful with suggestions on what to do and where to eat for my partners birthday. Great that the new inn is only a walk away and does good food. Lots of cupboard space for food in the kitchen and for clothes in the bedroom and lovely, thoughtful touches throughout. We didn't want to go home!
A little cold on arrival but heaters provided and once fire going very warm! The door lock can be difficult but Melanie does explain that in the info book - takes a few goes to master it!

Clean, comfortable with everything you need for a short break. Info provided by the owners also really helpful. Pub with decent food in the village (New Inn) just a short walk (take a torch!). We used it as a base to explore local areas including Cheddar, Glastonbury etc and lovely local walks too.
Couldn’t fault anything.

The Story Cottage was everything we needed for a total break for a couple of weeks. Such a super little cottage with everything thought of and very well organised. It was a pleasure to come back to it each day after exploring the area. A great place to base yourself with so much to see and do on your doorstep and the hosts were very friendly, kind and helpful with suggestions on routes for runs, walks and cycles. We had a fabulous stay and highly recommend.

The cottage was perfect for us providing everything we needed for a lovely few days in The Mendips. We did several walks in the surrounding countryside which were beautiful. There are so many places to visit - we did not have time to see them all so we hope to come back.
We especially liked the Wall Map.

The place is finished to a very high standard and is super cozy. It’s so nice to come back to settle in by the wood burner with a nice glass of wine after a long day of hiking.
Would 100% come again.

Such a comfy nights sleep here. Spacious and modern inside , with everything we needed and more!
It was in a fab location for us to get to where we wanted to visit easily, and loved being able to go up the local hills.
Not much! For us we would like a secure garden for dog, but were grateful to even be allowed to bring him.
