About this cottage rental
As you pull through the wrought iron gates and up the driveway of Arlington House, a stone's throw from the popular village of Bibury, you'll see the Bothy straight ahead. At first view the Bothy seems like an unimposing Cotswold stone barn. However, the moment you open the front door you'll immediately realise you have chosen a luxurious and perfectly proportioned Cotswold bolthole for two.
This old stone bothy was originally used for cattle over the centuries and has recently been converted. It now offers a light, bright and stylish accommodation for two. Downstairs is an open plan, elegant sitting room with a well-equipped corner kitchen.
A spiral, contemporary staircase leads upstairs to a beautiful bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Outside, you are provided with a garden bench at the Bothy's front door, where you can sit and enjoy a peaceful beginning or end to your day in the Cotswolds.
Ground Floor
Living-Dining-Kitchen Area:
Step through the Bothy's front door into the delightful, elegantly furnished, open plan living area, with polished limestone floor tiles, a comfy sofa, and smart TV. A perfectly equipped corner kitchen, with a fridge, toaster, kettle, gas hob, and oven, is at the far end of the room, while a bistro table is provided for guests to dine at, with a window seat providing one of the seats. (Trays are provided should you wish to eat sitting on the sofa.) A fabulous, antique wall-sized mirror reflects light into the room, making this open-plan living area beautifully bright.
A narrow, contemporary spiral staircase winds upstairs to:
First Floor
Bedroom:
Simple elegance best describes the Bothy's luxury ensuite bedroom, with its vaulted and exposed beams, grey and white colour scheme and combination of antique and contemporary furniture. The room is furnished with a king-size bed, reading lamp, a wardrobe and drawer, a small sofa, luggage rack and full-length mirror. A hair dryer, iron and ironing board are also provided for guests.
The door in the bedroom that leads to external stairs was originally used by the herdsman who lived above his cattle. The morning sun streams through the door's window, which can be enjoyed while lying in bed, but curtains are provided should you prefer to keep the light out for a lie in! (This door should only be used in case of fire. Please leave the keys in the door at all times.)
Bathroom:
The elegant ensuite bathroom has a large walk-in shower, with handheld and overhead showerheads, a contemporary wash basin, a dual flush W.C. and a tall heated towel rail. All towels, shampoo and soap are provided for guests.
Outside
The Bothy has a delightful, dedicated seating area to the side of the cottage, with a bistro table and chairs. Guests access the property using the owners' private driveway. A parking space for one car is located to the front of the Bothy.

We stayed at The Bothy for 2 nights in Feb 2024 and whilst we were thrilled with the location, proximity to Bibury centre and beautiful walks, we were disappointed with general cleanliness in the cottage itself.
The cottage was filled with cobwebs and much of the cooking equipment / utensils were covered in either stains or mess from prior cooking that hadn’t properly been cleaned - so much so that we decided not to use the facilities to cook the breakfast that we had bought prior to arrival.
In addition, the cottage does not have curtains in the downstairs or bathroom, causing obvious privacy concerns. Particularly in the bathroom where the window faces directly out onto the main road.
Outside of this, the cottage was modern and comfortable, so with greater attention to detail with cleaning it would be a pleasant stay.

I would like to thank Michelle for providing such a lovely place for our stay, offering us an upgrade as we were the only ones on site!
The property itself was cosy, clean and modern whilst reflecting the Cotswolds theme throughout.
The directions to the property were clear and the property guide book was great with suggested local walks, where to eat and what to do.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family, thank you again!

This historical Bothy (restored cowshed/home of a herder) as been converted into a comfortable one bedroom unit. The design and furniture are high quality and stylish. The photos are representative of the cottage. Check in was easy and finding the place was also easy given the good directions given. The bed was very comfortable and it was wonderful to be able to sleep with the windows open for fresh air. Bibury is a good central location to many historical gardens and sites. There are two eating establishments within walking distance of the cottage. We had no issue with the spiral staircase which linked the two floors. We would definitely stay here again on a return visit to the Cotswolds. We particularly liked walking along iconic Arlington Row after dinner when the village return to its quiet mode in the evening.

Our stay at The Bothy, Bibury - May 2022
My wife and I stayed at The Bothy for 7 nights, and enjoyed every minute of it. It was straight-forward to locate, with a decent-sized parking spot. There was private outside seating. The property owners lived in the immediate vicinity, and were very kind, approachable and helpful, without being intrusive. We would stay again. The accommodation would not really suit anyone with mobility issues, due to a narrow spiral staircase, which is stated prior to booking, so we knew what to expect. An ideal accommodation for a couple, and for spending a few nights is a beautiful part of the Cotswolds. The accommodation provided some useful local information, and everything we needed for a welcoming arrival - thanks for the cake!

Wonderful Bibury Nest
Spent five nights in the wonderful little spot. While small, it was very well equipped and appointed. The location is just right for country walks and sightseeing. One small plumbing issue was handled efficiently by the very friendly hosts. The weather during our stay was not very good, but the charm of the property made our indoor hours very memorable.

Cute and comfy hideaway
Arriving at The Bothy, we found a very clean and comfortable snug - exactly what we needed. We booked the space during lockdown as we had a wedding to attend in the area and it really was the perfect choice. The little touches we found were so helpful: basic groceries and treats (oil, salt and pepper, ground coffee, fresh milk and cookies; even two little bottles of wine in the fridge!) and a Smart TV (we brought our own Firestick which made things super easy). As we’ve been to Bibury many times, we didn’t need to take advantage of its excellent position for the tourist trail but would highly recommend it for this purpose. Both the Bolthole Retreats agency and the owner Michelle are delightful to deal with too.

The Bothy one bedroomed cottage at Arlington House, Bibury was clean and tidy, tastefully decorated and comfortable. Kitchen small but well equipped. Situated in a very peaceful location and with a small seating area to front of cottage meant we could sit outside in the sunshine and enjoy the peace and quiet and the nice surroundings of the cottage. All in all it was a nice place to stay. The only criticisms we have is that we found spiral staircase to be just a little too narrow, meaning we were unable to get a normal sized suitcase up and had to leave case downstairs and take bundle of clothing up some evenings for the next couple days. You would probably be able to get a small carry on up there. Also we feel that some sort of blind/curtain should be placed at the bathroom window, we did feel a bit exposed getting out of the shower with the towel rail opposite the window and nowhere to hang the towel near the actual shower. We were told of the "small creatures" that may appear from time to time but saw none of these except woodlice, which on occasion was quite a few. This was a lovely cottage in the owners grounds with parking, you remain undisturbed and in entire peace. We found the owners Michelle and Jason polite and helpful, who were there if needed but otherwise you were left undisturbed.

Lovely position with good local links.
Great accommodation with good local restaurants and pubs. Trout from local trout farm was very tasty.

Cosy place for 2
Beautiful little spot in Arlington and the owner has put a lot of work into the renovation of the property and it was well equipped with everything we needed with good quality furnishings and extra littles touches. Very surprised that the bathroom window did not have a blind fitted for privacy. Although we enjoyed our recent stay at The Bothy unfortunately we did have a few issues with cleanliness...kitchen cutlery drawer was full of crumbs and had to be cleaned before use, dust and cobwebs on lamps and pictures, some old socks under the bed and a massive problem with woodlice on the floor downstairs and especially from the beams above the bed (we had to remove them every night) as they were also on the bed. The owner did state that there may be a couple but I would say it was more of an infestation as there were so many (could be mating season). Definitely needs to be looked at. We live in a 200 year old cottage and have the odd woodlice but never seen them to this extent.

Beautiful location
Great location in a gorgeous village with lots of local walks. The Bothy is cosy and decorated beautifully. One window was broken and wouldn’t close when we arrived but this was sorted quickly.

Lovely little cottage for two with all you need
We loved the quirky nature of this old building and the great conversion into a little bolthole for two. Very comfortable king size bed. Recommended

A very relaxing stay in a quirky, historical little house.
Bibury is so quaint and relaxing and full of history, just like the Bothy. We had everything we needed for a short stay, welcomed by biscuits and fresh flowers and even some fizz in the fridge. A nice touch.

The most perfect getaway!
We couldn't have loved our stay at the Bothy in Bibury more! It was simply a dream. The cottage itself far exceeded our expectations. When you pull into the driveway you see an incredibly charming 300 year old Bothy, that has been incredibly well maintained, rose bushes and terracotta planters. The inside was completely renovated and very clean. It was tastefully decorated and cozy, yet spacious enough for the two of us. We appreciated the organic prosecco and treats that awaited us as well, as well as the fully stocked kitchen of supplies (since we cooked a lot). The cottage was also conveniently located – a few minutes walk from local attractions and breath taking footpaths and trails. We couldn't recommend it enough!
