As the other reviews stated it does have a slight musty smell but it is an older home and the smell wasn’t terrible. Location was fantastic. If you plan on cooking I would definitely recommend bringing your own cookware as there weren’t many pots and pans and the ones that are there weren’t in great shape. All in all we had a pleasant stay and will definitely return in the future!

If you love that old basement musty smell, then this house is for you. If not - stay elsewhere.
This could be a great little house with some changes. The air vents were all very dirty - haven't been cleaned in a very long time. Metal frame windows are corroded and can't be opened, and some won't shut all the way. A couple are missing the locks. Most of the blinds (shutter style) are either broken and/or off track. Bulbs were burned out. Garage doors did not work (although I did fix one of them). One of the power circuits in the bedroom is shorted to ground. The house is just in a general state of disrepair and could use some TLC. It would benefit from a dehumidifier being run both in the garage and the house itself. It has the worst musty smell I’ve ever encountered. There were many other issue too numerous to list here and keep this (relatively) short. The location right on the beach is great, but everything else is not good.

This property is quite bare-bones (we brought our own linens, TP, even soap), but it's such a great location. We loved being able to walk down to the beach several times a day, and the covered deck overlooking the ocean was fantastic for those of us with more sun sensitivity. We were outside almost the whole time. Indoors is totally adequate, and with 7 of us we had plenty of room to have dinner together and lounge around inside. Check-in and check-out was easy, and wifi was sufficient for my husband's Zoom calls.

Overall the view and location made the trip worth it. The place however needs a lot of work. Our only complaint is that we did not receive check in/entry info as promised. We had to call the property manager and she asked that we drive down to office to pick up keys and that she didn't know why we didn't receive our email. Afterwards she was able to give us a key code to access keys. The place needs work. Doors were broken, mattresses were old and stained and no linens, Paper towels or towels are provided. But, the location and views make up for it all. So, if you're not snobby the place is worth it with a few exceptions but manageable.

The view and access to the beach is great. The house looks like 1970, needs updating. Had a musty smell when we first arrived. It is stocked with all that you need.

Good layout. Nice beach. Fishing was good

Not crowded
The property is located between non rentals so the beach area is not at all crowded. The beach has been built up nicely after last year’s hurricanes. The house is located in an area that is not at all congested. The only problems were the much worn cookware and picky washing machine. The back covered deck is perfect for those who easily sunburn.
Regarding the realty company, the check in and out process, including the expectations upon departure, are the simplest I have ever had.

Best Vacation Ever
This property was perfect! Right on the beach, across from the sound, about 8 minutes from the bridge and no public access for miles! The only people on the beach were people staying in the surrounding homes. Love the sandy "backyard" - played cornhole and had water balloon fights.
I cant say it enough - the vacation was amazing and so was the house!

A little disappointed
Like I said in the title.. "A little disappointed". The house was cute, charming and very open. The cleanliness of the property was as good as it can be considering any house right on the beach. No complaints there! The problems were.. it seemed that everything in the house came straight from a garage sale. We even saw a few things in the house with hand written prices on them. lol. My wife and I said each other, "for the price and the money this property receives.. they can spend more money on quality items that would make the stay more comfortable!" Nothing matches and I mean Nothing. Almost every drawer fell out and off track. My wife had to use the mirror in the living room to put her makeup on and do her hair, the bathroom mirrors are terrible. Now the good.. Back deck was wonderful just to look out at the ocean. The beach was amazing and water was crystal clear. I have never seen the Atlantic Ocean this blue/green almost like the gulf. Lots of shark teeth on the beach and I mean a lot. It was fun to take breaks from the ocean and go find them.

Comfy house, close to the beach
We enjoyed this property. The best part is that it is close to the beach. There's a nice shower stall for washing off sand on the way back from the beach. We liked the open common area that included a large kitchen, large kitchen table and living room. The bedrooms and bathrooms were big enough but a bit dated. We recommend that the owners get rid of the shutters on the ocean side because these are just too hard to open and close-mostly these are broken. Maybe some nice blackout curtains or another option. The many sliding doors on the ocean side into the house are also in bad shape. Repairs need to be made. It's a functional house and has lots of potential with some updates.

Loved this place
The place was clean and cozy and we were very comfortable there. The cottage is older but didnt matter at all because it is well laid out and every one has plenty of room to space out for privacy. The washer and dryer are not in the house but downstairs in the garage. The pictures on the site are very accurate except the couches appear to be new. Definitely want to come back to stay here again. The walk to the beach was a little bit of a haul on these old knees of mine but the back deck and view was well worth it. Really hated to leave.

On the beach
So we had a nice stay the house is older & you can tell has been enjoyed a lot. So if you need/want new keep looking. The house is on the beach views are great & we enjoyed the porches in the evening. The walk to the beach for my kids & self was fine but you go down a long set of stairs, over a dune then about another 80 yards to the ocean so my 65+ yo Mom with recent knee surgery wasn't able to join us on the beach so keep that in mind if anyone in your party has trouble getting around. Had a lot of room for all of us to spread out & also get together. Pictures are accurate. Only other issue the house is close to the road & the bedrooms on the road side got kind of loud once people got out & about for the day may not be an issue for people used to traffic noise but for us not used to hearing it took a few days to be able to ignore & sleep through.

I wanted to give 5 stars. But...
The location was perfect! We had a wonderful, relaxing time on the back deck and it was so convenient to go back and forth to the beach. But...If you are looking for a clean, well maintained place, go elsewhere. I'm not sure what the smell is that hits you in the face when you walk in the door, but it is not pleasant. The smell in the closets is even worse. We kept the closet doors closed and didn't use them. The furniture (couches, chairs, mattresses and even carpet) were all very clean, so we decided to stay. I had my fingers crossed that there was no toxic mold growing anywhere. I was thankful (and surprised) that our family members with allergies and asthma didn't have severe reactions, but everyone stayed healthy. The kitchen is stocked with a bunch of junky stuff that has seen better days. The threshold between one of the bathrooms and bedrooms has tacks sticking up that will puncture the soles of your feet if stepped on. I hate being so harsh with a review, but I can't in good conscience not warn potential renters.

The description is accurate. Not a fancy house, but it had everything we needed for our stay. Kitchen has a dishwasher, toaster, blender (but we brought our own) and utensils, etc. Only about 4 spoons though. We had to clean out the coffee maker because it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long while. The fridge was clean, and there is a lot of storage space. The bedrooms were adequate; the beach-facing bedrooms have doors that open towards the ocean which is nice. It’s kind of hard to close them but we managed. The deck is great! We loved the beach space and the neighbors on each side are very friendly! The outside shower is enclosed which is nice, but needs a newer hose. The location of the house is perfect! Right between Surf City and Topsail beach. We walked about a mile to the Jolly Roger pier. We saw a review that had complaints of ant problems and no hot water in the kitchen - we had none of these issues. There is a spot in one room where the carpet doesn’t meet the threshold to the bathroom, and has carpet tacks sticking out- we covered it with a bath mat so the kids wouldn’t step on them. The house itself could use a deep cleaning, but we enjoyed our stay!!

This place is a great location but the property itself needs a lot love and the ants are terrible. Don't do it!The driveway has a large ant colony somewhere close. We noticed the ants and purposefully parked to not interrupt there trail but within a few days we started finding them in the car and ended up having to treat with all kinds of cleaner, vacuum, take to the carwash multiple times to stop the problem when we got home. We did not park in the garage but might have if we knew that could happen. Wish it was communicated ahead of time that it was a possibility. From the moment you walk in there is a very strong musty smell (not beach smell but old smell). The kitchen sink spun and didn't work right-very difficult to even find the hot water. It is described as well stocked but I would say it had most of the basics-and much of it has been used for a long time. Some of the carpets looked new but some had sections missing with carpet nails exposed that my husband (thankfully not my 6 or 2yr old) stepped on and covered on the first day. The house was clean enough to not make a cleaning crew come back but in wiping everything down upon arrival-many high touch surfaces were dirty. As the week went on we discovered more ants inside the house. Some of bedding, cushions, etc had been replaced but some had not. The back deck had plenty of seating and access to beach was awesome. Definitely the bright spot of the house although towards the end the ant problem worked its way back there to. There was a tropical storm/hurricane that hit midweek. The realty company did not communicate clearly through all this. We didn't want to lose thousands of dollars by evacuating and not coming back-because a refund wasn't guaranteed. We went back to Raleigh right before and waited to be told the power was back on. The realtor wouldn't ask about a refund until the week was over so had we not gone back we may have been out money. She did communicate that if it was her property she would refund days without power. When we returned after the storm the exterior was covered in sand and we had to hose off in order to to use it. It has been 1 1/2 weeks and still haven't heard about refund. We also communicated the issues above to them and the response was that the owner knew about most of it. The location was great but I would not stay here again because it is not well maintained and poorly managed.
