Gillford Cottage is a lovely two-bedroom, two-bathroom, one-level log cabin situated along a creek in a wooded area inside the Riverbend at Lake Lure community.
The cabin features a fabulous screened porch with a table & chairs for outdoor dining, a nice gas grill, and... it directly overlooks the creek that runs into the Broad River. The sight and sound of the water are enchanting!
You will enter the great room, which consists of a fully equipped kitchen, a dishwasher, a dining area with seating for six, and a comfy living room with a gas fireplace & flat-screen TV.
The Master Bedroom has a king bed with a flat-screen TV & a full Master Bath with a tub/shower combo. The guest bedroom also has a Queen bed & a smaller flat-screen TV & the guest bathroom is also a full bath with a tub/shower combo.
"Riverbend at Lake Lure" is a private gated community offering two private lakes (Big Mirror Lake & Little Mirror Lake) that allow for canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats, private access to the Broad River, picnic areas, gazebos, pavilions, hiking trails, beach area, swimming, fishing, and BBQ grills for your enjoyment. There’s an “Old Swimming Hole” along the river and a lovely Nature Walk where you can picnic and enjoy the community waterfall.
Outside the gates of Riverbend Development, you’re only 6 miles from downtown Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village, where you’ll enjoy beautiful sights as well as numerous dining and shopping options!
AREA WIDE NOTICE: Lake Lure will undergo a drawdown from January 1st, 2025, through the first quarter of 2025 (March 31st). The lake will begin to be lowered by approximately 1 foot per day until 12 feet have been reached. Infrastructure maintenance, dredging, and dam projects will be expedited during this time frame. These efforts by the Town of Lake Lure may affect access to the lake and restrict any lake usage. For more information, click here. The lake will likely be back up to normal levels by mid to late April. While we understand this is an inconvenience, this does allow you to enjoy the full beauty of Lake Lure in the fall and holiday season. This will not affect the smaller lakes in the area, only Lake Lure itself.

Immaculate cabin. Great beach just 5 minutes away

Everything from booking to checking in was a breeze. The cabin is beautiful and the location was peaceful.
I especially loved the screened porch and spent morning there drinking coffee, reading and listening to the water flowing through the stream.

The pictures don't do this cabin justice. Lovely location, the porch is awesome, and the babbling brook was so very relaxing.
The development/ neighborhood was interesting to navigate, and you should know it is completely mountainous, and has curvy, and gravel roads. We had planned on going to Lake Lure Beach, but there is a delightful lake with beach right in the development, FREE. Our 2 boys thoroughly enjoyed exploring the grounds and loved, loved the lake.
Would stay here again and highly recommend!!

This is a beautiful cottage and we wished we could have stayed longer than 2 nights. We had planned to spend most of our time hiking, but lots of rain kept us inside more during our stay. We had a nice time relaxing & playing board games. The screened porch would be a great place to do that if it were a little warmer. I'm sure it would be wonderful during the summer. We did have a power outage our last night there, but it was close to bedtime anyway. The power was back on by 5:00 am. The only negative was taking out the trash. There wasn't an outside receptacle for the trash so we had to take it with us. It would have been nice to know someplace nearby where we could get rid of it. But overall, we would be happy to stay there again.

Property was clean and ready for us. Enjoyed the screened in porch area. We would have liked a fire pit area if you’re thinking of changing things in the future. Also spices and cooking spray supplies would be great. Overall though very nice enjoyable stay!

Upon arrival, we could not get lock box on door to open. Reached out to Carolina prob, they tried to reset pad with fail. They then called us back after 30 min and informed us of a key lock box under back patio. Next day I placed a small load in washer. Hub and I took a short nap and woke up to washer overflowing and water all over the floor. We cleaned up water for prob an hour. I then contacted Carolina prop again and told them what had happened. The man we spoke with did mention some compensation on the phone. Which I due believe is appropriate for inconveniences. I would have thought Carolina Prop would have reached out by now on their own, but have yet to hear from them. Best contact would be my cell.

Everything looked great from entrance to neighborhood, the sights, place the house is located! We loved it. We had everything that was necessary! We were able to play some board games with our kids, have a cookout, cook food! Being in this house felt so relaxing and cozy. There is not anything to do in December but if you just want to relax and just getaway this is a great destination! We really love the gillford cottage and absolutely would love to come back!

get home before dark you dont want to navigate those country dirt gravel roads at night it is dark out there . my son got lost on the way in wife and baby and was not happy about that scared to death on the back side of the mountain , he did not follow main gate instructions - very important to follow first set of directions then the 2nd - place was spotless . comfy quiet , loved the fire place and back porch - grill caught fire because no cleaned underneath it and we had to use fire extinguisher to put it out . we had no grill entire stay glad i bought insurance so they did not say it was my fault - clearly they could see the 13 inches of junk and gunk in it . was 20 minutes from town because of switch backs but next time were thinking about staying closer to town - . not many perks for the value . but over all nice . we enjoyed the quite reprieve and remoteness . we were definitely alone .

The house was so so clean, and the location perfect for traveling around Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Slept in comfortable beds with crisp, white sheets, and drank coffee on the back porch every morning while listening to the nearby babbling brook.❤️
Easiest home rental and vacation stay ever! Many thanks!

PROS:
Spacious. Short drive to great hiking/grocery/shops. Well equipped kitchen. Nice grill. Comfortable bed. Once they finally communicated with us they were quick to send someone to address our issues. Easy check in/check out. Can hear the sound of the water babbling from the porch. Surface areas are clean.
CONS:
It's not well vacuumed; our allergies were cRaZy in the bedroom and on the couch. Hubs actually started a sneezing fit again just from unpacking his cpap machine (they have to sit on the floor so it was on the carpet all week).
I originally contacted the property management company to see if there were any replacement bulbs in the house I could swap in a lamp. No response. Reached out again after we found and killed a palmetto bug (a.k.a. cockroach). No response. I was starting to panic because 16 hours went by with no responses to my messages and all I know is roaches are a heath hazard and I didn't want to take any home as a souvenir 😅. Was relieved to learn finding one doesn't indicate an infestation and once they did start to respond to me, they sent a pest control person within the hour to spray around the kitchen.
They also sent someone out who replaced the bad bulbs and fixed the fireplace same day, but didn't tell us when they were coming or let us know afterwards that they came.
Someone else wrote in their review about the lighting and I thought that was probably over exaggerated, but it's not. The pictures are staged with fill light. There's zero lights over the dining room table so it rendered the space useless in the evening for my middle age husband who can't see like he used to. And the living room in general is very poorly lit.
SIDE NOTES:
They have a logged in Netflix account, but the WiFi is too slow to watch anything on their TV without it constantly freezing or throwing an error message. Not the end of the world, just need to download movies to your devices. And on that note, I just realized while typing this that I left our Chromecast plugged in the TV so... yay for you, bonus house feature if you book it LoL
And the recliner chair isn't there so if you are banking on that for any reason - don't.
CONCLUSION:
Overall while it wasn't quite what we were expecting, we did enjoy our trip. The place has a lot of potential with better cleaning upkeep, communication, and lighting. If you don't have have allergies or bad eyes you might love it!

This was a great cabin in the woods and perfect for a weekend stay. Super clean! Lake swimming, fishing, nature trail, creek waterfall all without leaving the Riverbend development.

Anniversary Getaway
The house itself was as expected. It was very clean and ready to occupy. The only issue we had was the table and chairs on the porch were covered in pollen. We really enjoyed the "babbling brook" just outside the porch. Very relaxing. Relying on the internet's spotty GPS to locate the house was difficult in the beginning but we worked it out. The fireplace was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. Communications with Carolina Properties was excellent throughout the process. We are considering another trip there in the future.

Spring getaway
The cottage has a bright and airy feeling and was spotless. While the cottage is in a lake development, only one other cottage is visible from the property so there's a sense of community and privacy at the same time. Lots of outdoor activities are fairly nearby and when the weather doesn't cooperate, the cottage is very comfortable for spending the day indoors.

Weekend Getaway
It is a beautiful cabin set in a beautiful area! We had a great stay. Sitting on the porch listening to the little stream was so nice. The coffee maker was awesome. My only suggestions would be to have an ottoman or something to put your feet up on in the den area. And a little table to put your things on in the bathroom!

Weekend Getaway
The cabin is beautiful and super clean with everything you need already provided! It secluded and quiet and the screen porch is amazing. One of the only downfalls is the internet can be a little slow, however this is to be expected in the mountains. I look forward to staying here in the future!

Great trip!
The house was perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a better home and in such an ideal location. The Riverbend property is breathtaking, private, and close to many activities. The house was very clean and well-equipped.

Nice but needs a little bit
Cabin was nice, clean and comfortable. It was not well lit with not enough lights and several bulbs burned out. Kitchen was dark and hard to work in. A sheet of directions for TV, DVR, fireplace etc. would have been helpful.

Loved our stay!
The house is impeccably clean and the neighborhood is so quiet. It’s located just a short distance from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. It’s the perfect location for a quiet and restful vacation, but you can be in town in about 10 minutes if we want some action. This is an incredibly beautiful area. We would definitely stay again.

Wedding/Memorial Day Weekend Getaway
The property was vey clean, looked exactly like pictures & very quiet. Since it was in a gated community in the mountains I assumed it was paved roads. The roads were narrow gravel roads up the hill. Had this somehow been put into the description; we would have brought our SUV & not a sport coupe. The mattress in the master bedroom was way too soft, no support. But other than that; we loved it!
