Typical river stay. Place was very clean and had everything you needed for a nice stay. Very hot in Florida (hotter than usual 😂), difficult for the AC to keep up, first day it’s was 84 inside the home, took 8-10 hours to get the temperature to 74 (lowest it got). Wife has asthma but we made it through. Very good communication with property owner, lives down the private road on the River front. Very noisy in the AM as the landscape folks were working every day of our stay. Sebastian was fantastic, nice places to eat, near the causeway over to the ocean and to Vero beach. Overall satisfied, but a little rustic for us.

We stay at the cottage every year. We absolutely love all of the amenities. Cheryl is so available and checks on us periodically. We will be back next year!

The property this rental sits on is absolutely gorgeous. There are lots of palm trees along with tropical plants of various types. The yard is completely fenced in so you can safely leave your pet to roam outside if you choose. While there, we walked to the dock to watch the sunrise over the water (it's breathtaking I highly recommend it). The beaches are beautiful and the local restaurants are amazing. Cheryl is a wonderful hostess and treats you like family. Everything you need to enjoy your stay is inside the rental. It's really cute and very clean!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful month at Mermaid Cottage! Cheryl is such a generous hostess and welcomed us like family. She genuinely wants her guests to have everything they need to enjoy their stay, and we did. We feel so fortunate to have found this special vacation home! The cottage is close to beaches, restaurants, and shopping, but is located in a secluded, quiet setting and offers many ways to relax. We were able to prepare meals in the kitchen and on the gas grill with the cookware and utensils provided. The patio garden is a lovely peaceful place to relax and the Indian River Lagoon is within walking distance. We especially enjoyed our time at the pier fishing, watching sky divers, wildlife activity and beautiful sunrises, and being cheerfully greeted by Cheryl's friendly dogs. From the pier we were also able to see a couple of satellite launches from Cape Canaveral. Two of our sons and their families visited on separate occasions and the cottage accommodated them nicely as well. The beds are quite comfortable and everyone appreciated having two full baths. Sincere thanks to Cheryl for her kind hospitality and for making our stay so memorable! We can’t wait to return next year!

We're a retired couple with two shih tzus, Bo & Bella, and we wanted a place where our fur babies would be comfortable while we were at the beach. This place was perfect! The location was a short drive to the beach, restaurants & shopping and the Indian River was at the end of our street. The home was well equipped, comfortable king size bed, internet and cable worked great, and the beautiful yard was fenced in and shaded. Cheryl was very helpful and accommodating - we're hoping to rent this place again next year. We highly recommend "The Mermaid".

We enjoyed our time in Sebastian. The property was great and met our needs. We loved going to the dock at sunset to watch the birds, especially the pelicans. We also saw dolphins there. The town is very walkable with nice bar/restaurants.

This is a little oasis about 2 tenths of a mile from US 1 down a sand lane. A nice bench and table and chairs welcomes you to the edge of the water. There's even a small patch of sand beach. The cottage sits 100 yards back and is nicely landscaped and fenced. The host is warm and friendly and has made this tropical paradise a great place to relax in and a base to explore the many attractions this area has to offer. can't wait to return again next year!

The location was perfect for our needs. The house has everything you want for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We enjoyed the fenced garden view from the well appointed seating on the large covered deck. Our dogs settled right in to their home away from home. We hope to make this an annual trip. Ok, I'm in love with this rental. Charming cabin with beautiful interior and a lovely outdoor space. Loved the fenced in yard for our dog, there's a fire pit and lots of seating on the porch. There's a good bit of trees so there's shade through the day, which is GREAT for the heat. The kitchen is a perfect size, lots of cabinet space and there's a LOT of appliances and kitchen tools, don't forget to look in the closet in the hallway. Gas range for the stove/oven, which is my favorite. All the appliances worked well. It's very dog friendly too, there was a water bowl set up and waiting for us! The bedrooms are lovely, beautifully done with plenty of space. I love that each bedroom had its own desk/working space. Bathrooms were nice and clean, water pressure was strong and water got HOT. A/C worked great too. Washer and dryer were a nice touch, got our laundry done before we even headed home. My next favorite thing was the LOCATION. Almost the last house on the road, last house belongs to the host with full access to their private docks. The water front is beautiful, quiet with stunning views up and down Indian River. My friend had a lot of fun fishing out there, caught a good number of fish too. Though the location is quiet and feels very private, you're just minutes from grocery stores, shopping and the beaches. The neighbors we ran into were friendly and unobtrusive. All in all, a great place to stay, and the hostess is stellar. I only wish fewer people knew about this house, I'm gonna have to book my vacations way out. This will definitely be my go-to rental for Florida vacations whenever I can get it!

We stayed here while waiting for a house to close. We watched the best 4th of July show in Sebastian, launched off the dock! Went to Vero beach and collected little shells. Ate at Mulligans in both Vero beach and Sebastian. Such good food and amazing service. Loved drinking coffee in the morning on the porch, surrounded by beautiful plants and trees. Short walk to a great view of the river.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time staying at the mermaid cottage. We left two days early due to a tropical storm and were graciously refunded two nights. We recommend this place for peaceful vacation, just a short walk away from the lagoon. Very dog friendly!

Well equipped, well located and excellent community with owner when needed. The fishing was also pretty good.

My wife and I know the Sebastian area but never knew this property before. The place is just wonderful; quiet, calm and eclectically unique. Cheryl has turned this place into an oasis of quiet and calm relaxation. If you want off the beaten track but with all the home comforts and sticking distance to kayaking, fishing, fine dining and relaxed approach go to this property. Cheryl and her husband could not be more accommodating and can regale you with so many interesting stories of lives well lived. My wife and I will be booking again for a month in the fall, but if you enjoy pure relaxation and know or want to know the Indian River in Sebastian you will not be disappointed. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this property! The cottage is cheerful and spacious, providing so much more than just a place to stay. The kitchen allowed us to prepare a nice variety of meals with the cookware and appliances provided. The front porch overlooking a delightful tropical garden, fire pit, and grilling area was a favorite place to relax with morning coffee, a good book, friends in the area, and family who visited for a couple of days. We all appreciated the convenience of two full baths with plenty of towels. A large flat-screen TV in the living area provided the evening's entertainment for a couple of NCAA games (Boiler Up!) The comfortable beds in bedrooms located at opposite ends of the cottage allowed for a peaceful night's rest at the end of many a busy day. We were especially thrilled with the amazing wildlife activity just beyond the front door. Our daily walks to the piers were rewarded with amazing views of the river as well as dolphins, manatees, small rays, river otters, osprey, pelicans, and many other birds. We added gopher tortoises, alligators, and blue racers to this list while hiking the trails in several of the area’s many wildlife sanctuaries. This location is peaceful and private, yet close to a variety of restaurants, attractions, beaches, shopping, and fun events in the area. We loved the small-town old-Florida charm of Sebastian and how easy it was to find our way around. This was an ideal setting for us! Thank you to Cheryl, the owner, for helping to make our stay so enjoyable and memorable!

This month long stay suited us just fine in every regard. The house was so comfortable and nicely decorated. The garden was magical and the deck in between felt like it was both part of the home and the garden at the same time. A plus that we could have our pups with us and a fenced in yard. We all shared enjoyable walks to the beautiful waterfront. In addition many parks in the area to walk ourselves and the dogs. The neighborhood and town was friendly and fun. As was the owner of the property. It was a plus to have her close by. I hope I have a chance to visit Sebastion again someday.

Very peaceful stay and Cheryl went beyond to make our stay wonderful.

Tucked between the highway and the river is this slice of tranquility also known as Mermaid Cottage. Coming down the rutted lane lined with a couple small businesses and a few simple homes, we weren't sure what to expect. When we pulled up to the cottage just steps from the riverfront, we were confident we had made a good choice. The house itself is extremely comfortable and very well equipped. With a bedroom and bath on each end we all enjoyed privacy and a quiet night's sleep on good beds with nice linens. In the kitchen we could prepare any type of meal we wanted with quality cookware, dinnerware, cutlery, and appliances - can't beat a gas stove. The house was spacious enough to accommodate our local family ( a total of 9 ppl) for dinner a couple of evenings; the large glass round table could fit us all snugly. Beyond the house there is the porch and garden where we enjoyed endless cups of coffee in the morning and wine at night. Gathering by the fire pit where we had good conversations and even put together smores was favorite spot. The quintessential Florida experience, the garden replete with mahogany and mango trees, bamboo, palms, and a collection of blooms, easily justifies calling this sweet spot tranquil. Last, but hardly insignificant is the river just down the lane. About every morning one or more of us made our way down there at sunrise where the birds were in routine attendance for what felt like bird church, and those feathered friends raised quite clatter. My travels both in and out of the country have taken me to many VRBOs, and this one ranks right up there among the best.

This was our first time staying in the Sebastian/Vero Beach area. The house is not directly on the water, but it's a very short walk down to the Indian River. It's a cute little house with plenty of linens and towels available and a nice front porch on which to relax. Cheryl was easily reachable; at one point the water filtration system started beeping, which could have been an annoyance, and she came over right away and fixed the problem. We did have one brief misunderstanding with the neighbors, but let Cheryl know and she promised to sort things out with them, so I don't expect that to be a problem for future visitors.

Mermaid Cottage captures the quintessential Florida atmosphere. The location is excellent, both for its quiet, close-to-the-water setting, and also its proximity to town. The owner was great and very helpful.

Sebastian is a hidden gem of an area, we loved all of the waterfront dining around as well as the proximity to the beach. The property itself “Mermaid Cottage” is very peaceful and private, yet the owner is just up a secluded driveway at the the main house on the water. The cottage is totally fenced and with lovely tropical gardens and a mango tree! The front porch was a great place to relax and the fire pit was also great. Inside was very clean, comfortable and homey, with lots of coastal touches and artwork. We would definitely stay here again- overall a great experience

The mermaid cottage has all you need for a perfect vacation. We enjoyed the dock and seeing a manatee. The morning light on the porch with coffee. Very serene and beautiful property with so many comforts inside.

The cottage was more than we expected. Perfect secluded location. The porch is just amazing! Fenced in yard was perfect for our fur babies. Highly recommend staying here. Our stay there was truly amazing.

We enjoyed staying at Cheryl's peaceful sanctuary for three weeks. Cheryl is a wonderful host and was quick to respond to our questions and concerns. The home has plenty of room with a well-stocked kitchen, clean and well maintained. The split king adjustable bed was a pleasant surprise and very luxurious and comfortable. Although the home feels like you're miles from civilization, the supermarket is a five minute drive, and there are some very nice local restaurants we ordered in from. The Indian River Shores beaches are dog friendly and a short drive, so we were able to take our pup with us to the beach. The dog-friendly Riverview park is nearby. It's beautiful and a great place to take a stroll. We enjoyed some much needed peace and relaxation in this Sebastian sanctuary.
