About this house rental
This newly renovated "Yellow Door Ranch" is a ranch style one story house with 4 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths.
The location is perfect. It is only a mile from the Taconic State Parkway on a barely used dead end road so you feel a part of a nature and far from the hustle and bustle of life. The road ends at a beautiful creek. You can walk down the middle of the unpaved road to play, skim stones, catch crayfish, spot wildlife and generally get muddy doing fun outdoor stuff. You can go from nature and seclusion to the culinary, art and shopping attractions of Hudson in less than 20 minutes. Truly the best of both worlds!
The property is on 7 acres so there is plenty of space to run around and explore the surrounding nature. Walking trails are maintained in the woods along the top of the property and there are lovely views of the Catskill mountains. We have Adirondack chairs on the hilltop where you can enjoy the view whilst breathing the country air.
The layout of the house gives each family (or group) the privacy of their own "wing" with the kitchen/dining/living room area in the middle. On one side there is a room with a queen bed, a single bed and a single bunk. It is a very cute little space perfect for a group of kids or a family with small children (warning kids may fight over who gets this room!). The other is a large room with a vaulted ceiling and a large front window with a seating area and queen bed. There is a bathroom with a shower and double sink as well as a powder room. This side can be entered from the back door which leads into the mudroom and then onto the 2 bedrooms.
The other side of the common area has a bedroom with a king sized bed and ensuite bathroom and the other bedroom has 2 single beds and a full bathroom with a bathtub in the hallway.
The common area is open plan. The living room has a large sectional couch, a 55 inch Smart TV and a wood burning stove. The kitchen has all new appliances and is exceptionally well stocked with everything a chef could need. The dining table is extendable so can seat up to 12 with the leaves added. Patio doors lead from the living area to the large patio. Outside, there is a Weber Gas Grill, charcoal grill, a small smoker and a table for dining alfresco or playing games in the evening. There is also a new washer and dryer in a separate laundry room off of the kitchen which also has a large pantry.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! You can barely be closer to New York and this close to Hudson. The area is great to visit all year round with access to Lake Taghkanic, hikes, farms, wineries, antiques, great restaurants and shopping (Hudson is 20 minutes away and Rhinebeck 25 minutes) as well as skiing (Catamount is 20 minutes away and Butternut is 45 minutes away). The owner lives in the area and can recommend specific "to dos" upon booking.

We were three families renting the property to visit catamount. The house was very cozy and comfortable and more than enough space for our group. Michelle was very responsive and accommodating. Overall, we had a great time!

My family wanted to celebrate a few birthdays while “playing” in the snow and spending time outdoors. The ranch was perfect. Close to skiing & snowboarding. Lovely walking trails on the property. Our dog had the time of her life.
The kitchen was well equipped, the house is well maintained and check in and out was perfect.
Michelle was a great host and communicated with us the entire stay.
We had an extended stay, and would happily return!

We are a group of friends that love to knit and spin. We planned our first trip to Rhinebeck to attend the Wool and Sheep festival. The house was a beautiful, short ride to the fairgrounds. The location was very peaceful, full of wildlife. The house had plenty of room for 9 women. The hostess was easy to contact and was very attentive. We would rent this location again

In town for family gathering and spent weekend at the yellow door ranch. House was even better than expected both inside and out! Michelle quickly responded to all inquiries and easy check in. Bed was very comfortable! Great to come back to this home to unwind after day of family activities. Hope to stay again sometime.

Our family could not have asked for a better weekend away. The host was great, friendly and responsive to all of our questions. The house was modern, clean and prefect for our multi-family getaway.
The property is huge and we loved exploring by the nearby creek.
The house had spacious bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and a great open kitchen/living area to hang out.
Would definitely stay here again in the future!

4 friends and I, plus our dog had a wonderful time at Michelle's place.
There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out with privacy, and a large common area for us to spend time together. Our dog loved running around in the yard and taking the morning walk to the stream. The host Michelle was very responsive when we reached out with questions, and left really good recommendations for the area as well as a yummy bottle of wine as a welcome present. We are already talking about coming back in the future!

Truly one of the best places I've stayed at. The house is perfectly laid out for multiple families to stay, ranging in ages from 2-1/2 to adult. The bedrooms were spacious and so very comfortable. Plenty of bathrooms for everyone. The kitchen is well equipped and the property is absolutely beautiful. Quiet road yet close to many different restaurants. Yard was perfect for the kids to play in. The host, Michelle, was quick to answer any questions.

We enjoyed our stay here, and were grateful that we were allowed to bring our dog. There was plenty of room for all, and the property (inside and out) is well maintained. It is evident that there is a great deal of pride in the owners' maintenance and ownership. The kitchen is very well stocked; it is the best we have ever found in a vacation home. The owner (Michelle) was prompt in her responses, and was kind enough to allow three friends from CT to visit us for the day. We all enjoyed an outdoor barbecue, with perfect weather to boot. The extra amenities really made this vacation special!

We (my wife, two teenaged girls, brother-in-law, mother-in-law and I) just spent MLK weekend at the "Yellow Door House" and we had an amazing experience. The house is so nice and clean with the perfect amount of space and comfort. The beds are all really comfortable and the bedding is top notch. The open plan living/dining/kitchen allowed us to all hang out while making meals and watching football in front of the awesome wood burning stove.
The location is ideal. It allowed us to check out Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Great Barrington, Hudson all with short drives. But the house also has a remote feel on a big, well-maintained piece of property.
Communication with the owner, Michelle, was OUTSTANDING. Every message I sent was immediately returned and she gave us some great ideas for restaurants and things to do in the area. I asked her before we arrived if there were any games in the house. She said there weren't but if we gave her a list she would order them. As we arrived, so did a box of games from Target. So cool!
One other thing of note. Apparently the power goes out fairly regualrly in Columbia County. This house has a dedicated generator that kicked on immediately and stayed on until the grid came back online. What a great feature.
In short, we will definitely come back to the Yellow Door House and we HIGHLY recommend it for a great weekend+ away from the city.

This was the perfect house and property to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with our teens and visiting parents. The kitchen was a joy to cook in and the living room a generous, warm place to hang out. The walking trails were an added bonus! We’d definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay at Michelle's property. The house was large and spacious, with plenty of comfortable beds, large bathrooms, and a well stocked and high end central kitchen, dining, and living area for the group to coalesce. The layout was conducive to give enough privacy to a group of unrelated friends. We really enjoyed both the firepit, and the stove in the house where we made fires on multiple nights. The back and front yard were large and spacious with plenty of room for my dog to get out her "zoomies." The location was close to Hudson, Kaaterskill Wild Forest, and Indian Head Wilderness, where there was some beautiful hiking. Additionally, Michelle was incredibly communicative and hospitable, including leaving a little welcome gift for our group. We would definitely stay here again!

This property met all of our needs and exceeded our expectations. With a guest with mobility issues this was the perfect home. House and rooms were very spacious. and clean. We opted to eat in on our first night and found everything to make our meal prep a breeze. had a fun evening on the patio and then visiting around the dining table. The house was very clean and spacious and the owner went out of her way to apologize for the previous travelers who hasd left her with some unexpected items to take care of. My husband and I enjoyed walking to the stream and visiting some of the local attractions. Proximity to the parkway was an unexpected plus. I would definitely recommend this location to others visiting the area.

Two Family Getaway
Our group of two families with young children had an amazing long winter weekend at Michelle’s house. The house was clean, modern, and perfectly set up for our two families to share comfortably. The house was well located for all the activities we had planned and Michelle was super communicative. She answered all our questions promptly, provided ideas for local activities and even scheduled the driveway to be plowed around our schedule during a snowstorm. Would definitely stay here again.

Amazing long weekend
My friends and I had a wonderful long weekend here - it's perfect for going to Rhinebeck and Hudson (which we did on various days).
The house is perfect for a group, we had so much fun hanging out together in the living/dining room area. We brought in takeout for dinner multiple nights and it was so much more fun (and cheaper!) than going out to a restaurant.
The bedrooms are comfy, the bathrooms are clean and there are so many of them! The layout is perfect because some people can socialize in the living room while others can be off in their bedrooms for privacy and quiet.
The owner was very, very responsive and sent lots of instructions and recommendations, and she answered all questions promptly.
We will absolutely stay here again...

Fantastic Rural Escape
The Yellow Door Ranch was a perfect house for our group for a long weekend away. The photos are very accurate - if anything the home is even better in person. It is immaculately clean + all of the finishes and decor are top-notch. The kitchen is modern and has every amenity, appliance and utensil you would need (plus 2 grills and a smoker outside). The property is private, expansive and beautiful - make sure you catch one of the spectacular sunsets from the top of the hill!
There are a lot of things do to in the area - we enjoyed the West Taghkanic Diner, the Farmer's Wife, Green Acres Farm and Bash Bish Falls [*as of 9/18/21 the path down to the falls is closed but you can still view them from above and it's a nice short hike].
Michelle - one of the owners - was very helpful, quick to respond to inquiries and super easy to work with. All of the guests loved it and we would highly recommend the Yellow Door Ranch!

Great stay in Ancram!
This is a lovely house on a quiet stretch of country road. Lots of beautiful outdoor space for children (and dogs!) to explore. The house itself had a friendly, open layout. Beds were incredibly comfortable. Lots of nice bathrooms. Kitchen was perfect for whipping up big meals and the grill worked great for BBQs. Michelle was a wonderful host - she had lots of awesome recommendations for the surrounding area, left a lovely bottle of wine and checked in on us to make sure we were settled in. Would definitely return again in the future!

Perfect Ancram getaway
Our family had such a wonderful time exploring Columbia County and our immediate surroundings thanks to our host's stellar recommendations!! The house itself is wonderful - immaculately clean and furnished with comfortable modern pieces, the kitchen is stocked for anything you might want to cook including BBQ. Layout is perfect for two families and allows for two separate wings. Will definitely stay here again - location is perfect, just off the Taconic but feels miles away with little to no traffic or street noise, and convenient to all the region has to offer, including the Berkshires.

Getaway in Ancram, NY
Had a wonderful stay. The house has recently been renovated so everything was clean and new. It has 4 bright and spacious bedrooms and one of the kids bedroom had a bonus playloft that had them entertained for hours! We managed to catch the last of the skiing and are already planning our return visit in the summer to enjoy the beautiful surrounding area. Michelle couldn’t have been more accommodating - 5 stars! Thanks so much.

Yellow door house Ancram
Michelle’s house is fabulous, newly renovated, spacious, clean and room for 2 families or a large extended family. The wood burning fireplace was perfect after a day of skiing at Catamount (20 mins drive) or following a beautiful hike around Taghankic state park (5 mins drive). The house is located on 7 acres with trails and a beautiful river at the end of a quiet road. Michelle was a pleasure to deal with and we will definitely come back to stay again.
