Good- Great view of Lake from Upper Deck, Kayaks provided and good lake Access, Great star gazing, AC works great
Bad & The Ugly- House is surrounded by 3 abandoned properties, old RV, a junky lot and a dilapidated "Barge" in the water, the outside of the property needs some TLC, dish washing and paper supplies were sparse

Life has been extremely busy and painful this year. Getting away to the mountains and having a place to just rest, relax, and have fun with family was wonderful. This was our second time to stay here and we do plan on coming back!

This is a cozy cottage with some views of the lake, but there are a couple of other houses between the cottage and the lake. The highway is very close and the location is between the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway, two motorcycle bucket list roads, so the noise is a regular part of the atmosphere. Some of the nearby properties have messy yards that the owner probably cannot help. There were some nice touches to items furnished for comfort, but also some sparseness.. For example, only two dinner plates, only salad forks that were smaller than usual to eat with, no can opener, the grate that holds the charcoal in the grill is missing and there are no appropriate tools for grilling or lighter to light the charcoal. The property could use some maintenance such as power washing the porch and deck and washing of the windows. It's definitely an older structure, but considering the cost of other houses in the area, this place gives good value for the price. With a few additions and a little elbow grease, it could be awesome.

There were a few issues which Donna addressed-we had a great time visiting the area and would stay again!

Come get away in the rustic mountains of Western North Carolina where the weeds are waist high! The amenities include:
A terrible gravel driveway that’s half washed out in a sketchy cutback curve. You probably will not be able to make if you don’t own an SUV or Truck.
The rustic smell of weed that smacks you in the face the second you open the door.
Love no cell service and promised Wi-Fi when, surprise, there is no Wi-Fi!
Windows with broken screens on most of the windows, if they have a screen at all, to let out all the weed smell and let in all the insects you can imagine.
A fully functioning window A/C unit complete with mold.
A view to die for of overgrown trees, and an abandoned house blocking the lake.
Lake access through someone else’s property.
Don’t forget about the fresh green weeds growing at least waist high all around the property, including the back yard!
Ants and various other insects roaming both inside and out.
A back yard full of weeds, an unkept retaining wall of rocks perfectly suited for a family of snakes!
It’s pet friendly! The backyard is fully fenced in with chairs or rocks patching up the holes and a single piece of 1x12” board to keep your pet from escaping.
I promise you you’ll leave it better than you found it! You’ll pay for rustic and you’ll get unkept.
Happy travels! :D

It was a quick & easy process of checking in & out. My husband & I just came with our Harley in tow to conquer the Dragon, which we did several times! It was awesome! We also enjoyed the scenery, fishing at the nearby lake & took advantage of the kayaks provided with the property.

We stayed two nights after our wedding at a local venue. We didn't arrive the first night until 4 a.m. and left for the day to see family at 11 the next morning. We didn't get back to the rental until after midnight the second night and were so exhausted that we went to bed immediately and slept until about 30 minutes before checkout the next morning. At some point an unsecured kayak was stolen from the rental property. This caused us concern bc we had left our things in the rental while we were gone. The host immediately blamed us, and even after we told her that we hadn't used or even seen the kayaks and hadn't been on the property the majority of the time we had it rented she continued to accuse us of stealing the kayak. After further discussion she changed her mind and said the new neighbors probably took it, but we had to pay for a new kayak bc we were staying when it disappeared. Luckily VRBO assured us that we couldn't just be charged for it and relieved that concern.
Bottom line while the house was sufficiently clean and comfortable it's not worth the risk of having a problem with the rental and dealing with an unreasonable host who has no regard for the facts. In addition there's reason for concern about safety bc there were no security cameras and no safety measures in place to prevent theft and evidently no insurance to pay for loss or damage.

This house is a bit outdated but super super clean and very comfy. The location is very private feeling and located in a culdesac shared only with an abandoned house. It has direct lake access and the kayaks were newish and awesome! We loved our stay but unfortunately discovered a badly injured stray kitten and had to leave in a hurry to seek help for it. It set a sad tone to our otherwise great stay and we had to leave some things behind due to the sense of urgency. I Do Highly recommend this little lake gem though! Thanks Donna for such a cozy stay and let us know how you liked our hot sauce we left for you! we make it here in Asheville! -

Donna was amazing she’s a super helpful host and goes out of her way to accommodate your stay. Loved how close we where to the lake, the back yard was wonderful for a night fire (just double check for dog poop a previous guest didn’t clean up after there dog), over all this was exactly what we where looking for. We enjoyed the afternoon kayaking, and the evening fishing and hanging by the fire we woke up early to rent a boat and spend the day out on it before driving home.

This is a very cute little property; photos are accurate, and having the kayaks was awesome. Donna the host responded to messages very quickly and was very friendly. We had everything we needed, including tons of towels :) The only minor downsides are that the property is located right next to the main road and a bridge, and there is a lot of loud motorcycle noise (obviously the host cannot help that), and the internet is VERY slow; we were unable to stream any shows on the smart TV or our laptops, not use out hotspot as cell service for both T-Mobile and Verizon was very spotty; again, this is in no way the fault of the host). We enjoyed ourselves!

The only issue was the smell of marijuana from the previous guest. No matter how much Febreze I sprayed, the smell was stuck to everything, but that's not the property owner's fault. :(
We love the place definitely recommend it!

Perfect lakehouse getaway!
We had an amazing lakehouse experience. The location feels remote even though we were still close to town. Loved the front porch with views of the mountains and the lake. Amenities are as stated, with everything you will need to cook with. Bed and living room sofa were very comfortable with plenty of blankets and extra pillows. We would absolutely love to return to Iris's lake house!

Never felt comfortable
It didn't feel clean. The bathroom was okay and kitchen. It was the rugs more than anything, old and dirty feeling. Overall I wasn't comfortable. We got in late, never could find the switch for the kitchen lights, and left first thing in the morning.

Context: my friend and I stayed here for a night to explore the surrounding scenery in JanuaryThe good:-landlady was incredibly communicative and responds extremely quickly, as well as being very nice and respectful-the price is very affordable and a good deal for what we were provided-the interior, while dated, is quite cozy-the bed is very comfortably firm while still having some give, slept fantastically-the lake view is incredible with the mountains surrounding itThe bad:-the space heater in the living room is the only heat source in the building and is not nearly powerful enough to heat the building effectively during the winter months (be prepared to wear layers indoors)-the property is a little dirty and run-down, with a few uncovered holes in the wall and a slightly grimey shower-some interior elements could use repairOverall: you get what you pay for and some more. If you are visiting during the winter months, it is quite cold inside, but that is easy to solve with layers. I wouldn't mind coming back.

Fantastic getaway
Loved our stay! We fished the lake, enjoyed the kayaks, visited nearby mountains and waterfalls and relaxed on the deck! The kitchen is fully stocked so we were able to cook. Plenty of towels in the bathroom. Honesty it felt like a small apartment! The couch is lounge worthy and even our teens enjoyed themselves. The only downer for us is the neighbors large dog roamed free and we had to keep our eyes on our small dog! Other than that, perfect getaway!!

My husband and I wanted to get away for a quite weekend birthday trip. Very nice and secluded on the lake. I can't imagine staying anywhere else.
