Sister Lake Cottages are 7 cozy cottages located in Dowagiac, Michigan, and are perfect for water lovers! This listing is for unit 7. Big Crooked Lake and Little Crooked Lake are within 1 mile from the cottage, and they are both all-sports lakes. They are nearly the same size - Little Crooked is 103 acres, Big Crooked 110 - their shape and the lay of the land leave Big Crooked with nearly twice as much shoreline.
Not only is this home conveniently located to tourist attractions but great restaurants as well. Take an evening stroll to the Sisters Lakes Brewing company of 14 microbrews produced by the owner's family or the Strand Brewery & Grill. Other dining and shopping are in Dowagiac and nearby towns. There are also public parks in the area as well as golf courses, wineries, breweries, theaters, shopping, and the Four Winds Casino in Dowagiac. The resort town of St. Joseph on Lake Michigan is only 20 minutes away. Looking for a little adventure outside of water sports. Check out the snowmobile trail that runs between Sister Lakes and Grand Rapids and a biking trail that runs between Sister Lakes and the airport in Dowagiac. The surrounding countryside is part of the Michigan fruit belt, with wineries and apple, strawberry, peach, and cherry farms with roadside stands or you-pick excursions.
The entire Sister Lake Cottage 7 is for your private use with an easy self-check-in process to accommodate various arrival times. There is a private entrance with your own access code that will function between your check-in and check-out times. Come back after a great day of exploring and enjoy access to a kitchen with a stovetop, toaster oven, microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker as well as dishes and utensils. Sleeps 4 comfortably. Enjoy relaxing by the waterfront or bring some kayaks or water toys and enjoy full access to the lake. Guests will find the space to be warm, comfortable, and inviting and the hosts to be responsive and diligent to provide an excellent stay for each guest. Here for a quick visit, enjoy resting in this budget-friendly option with all the needed amenities for a shorter or lengthier stay. This cottage also features a Gigabit Fiber-Optic Internet connection.
If you would like to use the grill during your stay please bring a fire starter and charcoal. Also please bring your own wood for the fire pit.

This was the perfect weekend getaway for our 15th anniversary. Walking distance to a few restaurants and in the middle of 3 lakes. Nice outdoor area also.
Would have liked a small beach area for those staying at the cottages.
Only negative would be the ceiling fan in the bedroom is off balance and made an annoying sound all night.

Everything was great! Sage was very communicative and responded within timing manner. There were some things that one could keep in mind the shower water smelled rusted and one of the side of the stove did work making cooking time longer. There’s designated parking spot for each cottage but at times people would park in that space. Aside from these minors things everything else was great and I would come back again.

The property was cute and had everything that was needed. With just a few updates it can really be exceptional. However, it served its purpose for a quiet couple of days at a good price point.

I really liked the coziness of cottage 7. We had all of our favorite amenities (fridge, microwave, sink, tv, etc.) to make our stay comfortable. The cottage seemed like it was recently remodeled. It was clean with a welcoming beach theme. The only thing that was missing was closet space or hooks to hang up our jackets. My husband and I loved this place and plan on coming back next year.

This beautiful property is right in the heart of Sister Lakes. Our cottage (7) was perfect for the two of us. Sage, our contact, was quick to solve a small problem with the coffee maker. Other than that we had everything we needed and felt right at home. We will be back for future visits.

Stayed in cabin 7 when we arrived and got everything in the cottage noticed the floors where not swept the fridge wasnt cleaned if it was wasnt very good the stove top wasnt cleaned the chairs at the table had stuck on food on them the ceiling fan in the living room part the light didnt work and the fan was off balanced so made a cluncking sound also when i pulled the covers back on the bed was a ball of hair on it so was wondering if the bed had even been striped and washed other than all those things the cabin was ok just kinda irritated me that i had to go through and clean stuff when it should of already been done

We were there for a family reunion. Separate cottages and the common areas were great for that purpose. Our cottage had no hanging space for clothes, very noisy, unbalanced fan, and the fan light did not work. Extremely small bathroom that was not all that clean. Not well set up when we arrived. No garbage bags, limited toiletries, and we had 3 plates. Our family in other cottages did not have sufficient plates and glasses and some had no toiletries and a sink backed up. The staff should just make sure that there are 8 plates, bowls, glasses etc. in every cabin. I did communicate with management and they were very responsive. You are not right on the lake but very close and you do have your own dock. The area has many restaurants that are walk able.

It appears that they are in the process of improving the overall experience, but the current mattress was awful. The amenities did not match the spec sheet, but the property overall was functional for what we needed.
The Vrbo interface was the worst part of the experience. I’d suggest booking directly through the property owners website.

The cottage itself was adorable, everything went great once we arrived. However, when I first tried to book cottage 4, immediately after entering my cc info, the next screen that popped up said that this property was no longer available. I assumed someone beat me to it, so I rented cottage 7. Within 24 hours of realizing I was charged for BOTH cottages, I reached out to Unique Stays and was told there were no refunds. After calling VRBO and calling Unique Stays again, they ultimately said they cancelled one of my reservations but said they would not refund me unless someone else rented it. While staying in cottage 7, I did see people occupying cottage 4 all weekend but when I asked about my refund, they never returned my calls. Unique Stayd either made double off this confusion or offered this property to a friend/employee on my dime. I’m really disappointed because I would have definitely gone back to this property, but will not be giving them anymore of my money.

I chose this location/cottage because we were supposed to be celebrating a wedding right down the street at Driftwood. I wanted a place that was within walking distance. It was certainly that. The wedding was cancelled, but I decided to stay anyway and was pleasantly surprised with the property. Everything looked nice, definitely re-modeled, and was the perfect size for me (and my daughter who showed up one day). The only things that I would recommend to fix are the shower handle (which was not attached) and the shades in the bathroom window (that were broken and could be seen through). The fridge worked well but was in pretty bad cosmetic shape.
I am sure they will fix these easy problems in the near future.
The wifi was excellent, the TV´s too. And there is a Keurig in case you want to bring pods!
I will likely rent here again.... especially if the wedding gets re-scheduled!
