Six of us stayed at this lakefront home for five nights including two sets of grandparents and our son and grandson. Our comments mirror some that have been previously submitted. The house served as a cozy and relaxing base for breakfast and sleeping, as we spent most of our days at a large family gathering nearby. The lake views were beautiful, and the environment was peaceful.
The house could use some updates, especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. The layout includes three bedrooms and a small bathroom upstairs (shower only), along with one bedroom and two bathrooms downstairs, one small shower only and one more normal size, downstairs. The bedrooms are comfortably sized, although one upstairs room, with about a small four-foot entrance, is better suited for children, who would likely find it fun. However, we could not locate the toaster, and some desirables not included were a dishwasher, luggage racks or dressers in the bedrooms and air conditioning.
We did encounter some maintenance issues during our stay. The clothes dryer vent wasn’t properly connected, several electrical outlets in one bedroom were missing covers and had some plugs that wouldn’t stay in. The upstairs toilet was leaking around the base. We did send a text of our concerns to the phone number provided, but unfortunately, we didn’t receive a response.
The home is reasonably priced for what it offers but be aware that the front door lock can be temperamental.

Comfortable and convenient. Beautiful view of lake. We were able to rent a pontoon (elsewhere on the lake) and keep overnight at the house. A little shallow for propeller, but fine if careful. Water has all sandy bottom. No weeds. House a little worn down but worked out just fine.

We enjoyed the home. No AC, but good airflow from the breeze off the lake. We had the unfortunate timing of a broken refrigerator in the kitchen, but there was an extra in the back room that worked well. Parking is limited to 3 vehicles, but neighbor helped us with extra space for a price. We didn’t find a toaster, but toaster oven sufficed. Nice the owner provided consumable like tp, paper towels, dish soap, etc

We rented this house for 3 families to come together over a long weekend and the memories made will last forever. The house is the perfect size for 6 adults and 3-4 kids, and man did the kids think the bonus room was awesome! The porch and patio were perfect for eating meals, enjoying a bonfire, and chalk art. We had no issue getting our pontoon around or docked. The parking is tight, but you can fit 3 full-size trucks in if you don’t mind getting cozy. Like most dog-friendly properties, we weren’t expecting the Ritz, but it was cozy and comfortable for us to relax and not worry about a little sand on our feet. Neighborhood was great and close to everything you could need. We would definitely rent this home again.

The house was a home away from home. Everything was great. My brother really enjoyed the big tv. I enjoyed the efficient kitchen. My kids enjoyed the dock and water so close and the front yard tree kept the sun off of me as I sat at the table out front.

The property was in a great location on the lake. Watched beautiful sunsets every night. Enjoyed using the kayaks. The home itself needs a lot of updating.

Overall we loved our stay here. The outside amenities were wonderful, especially kayaks and floating mat.
Parking was problematic but we were accommodated nicely by owner and neighbor. Only issue with inside was how small two of the bathrooms were.
Owner was very nice to work with and responded quickly to messages. We would come here again.

Property is in a great location! House was lakefront and offered excellent water amenities. Homes are a little close together. Front door lock is a little messed up.

The cabin is roomy with a lot of sleeping spaces and 3 bathrooms. There were some electric outlets that didn’t work and lights that didn’t work. Nice to have the kayaks and swim mat. Bed pillows were not very good. We had fun and didn’t feel like we had to be super careful with the use of the cottage. Could be better with a few upgrades.

Every morning we found mouse poop on the kitchen countertop.

Golf Trip
House is nice and in a great location. Right on the water. The problem is the 4th bedroom. Unless you are under 4 feet tall you have to almost get on your hands and knees to get in and no place to stand up. The 3rd bathroom is in a separate part of the house. It would be better to put a bed in there and call it the 4th bedroom. Parking is a problem if more the 3 cars.

Worked well for us
We were looking for a place for extended family and significant others to stay while in the area for family holiday celebration. This house had all the space we needed for 9 adults. The kitchen was a little lacking in cooking utensils (stirring & slotted spoons, soup ladle) and the linens could use updating but they were functional. Communication with host was easy, but it would be helpful to have in unit instructions regarding amenities, locale, check out expectations. As mentioned in other reviews, the 4th bedroom (3 twin beds) has a very short and narrow entrance and is not full ceiling height. This is not specified in the listing and may cause accessibility issues for many adults. Overall we all enjoyed the space. The bathrooms were clean and furniture is comfortable.

Easy to book, easy to get into property. Very friendly owners was very accommodating.
This property worked great for me and my family to be close to family members that live in the area. Clean, easy to book and communicate with property owners. Listing is exactly how it reads.

Golf weekend with 4 couples
Rent in the property was a breeze. House was much smaller than expected and only good for 3 couples.

Wish we could have stayed longer
We enjoyed our visit very much. It was exactly what we needed. A comfortable and peaceful place to get away and relax. Loved being able to take in the sights and sounds of the lake from the kitchen table at meal time, the living room area, and down on the patio. The sunsets were beautiful! The host was kind and responsive and the property was well-stocked with what we needed. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Wedding weekend
We rented this for our wedding at The Barn at Evergreen Farms over a weekend. The home was very clean and neat and had everything we needed! We didn’t need to bring anything extra like blankets or towels which was nice ! It was spacious with plenty of room. I would say this would sleep 6 adults comfortable in bedrooms, the other beds are in an attic room as previous posts mention and a futon, which all have room but may not be ideal for everyone. The owner was super nice and reached out to see if we needed anything! The check in process was a breeze as was checking out. The house is on beautiful houghton lake on the south end of the lake. There is a seawall so it’s not ideal to get in and out of the water but you can use a ladder off the dock. The water was about knee deep and nice to wade in. We would stay here again! Thanks for a great stay!

Dirty and stains
The place had a very bad odor, the windows screens were torn. Stains on the couches and carpet. The pillows and sheets had yellow stains and had a bad odor Water leaks in bathroom. Pet hair on couches. They have a bedroom that you have to slouch to get into so it made it difficult for my family to get in. Sent these items to owner disregarded them. BBQ grill is filthy. Bring your own. The lake is nice. Not clean enough to swim in. Kayaks were fun.

Wonderful View and amazing Sunsets
This was my first visit to this property. I love visiting Houghton Lake because of the Many things that are available in the area. This side of the Lake provides a great lake view with amazing sunsets. This home had plenty of room for my family of 5 to sleep comfortably and the kitchen had everything I needed to cook meals. This property had a dock and 2 kayaks to keep my kids busy. This is a new VRBO property and I am confident that this property owner will continue to provide necessity and updates as time goes by. I am looking forward to many more visits in the future. This area has a produce market, meat shoppe, car wash, party store, Walgreens, gas station, and a coffee shop within walking distance and a Walmart and several restaurants with 2 miles. Great place for year round visits and weekend getaways for Golfing or friend groups.

Nice stay
We really enjoyed watching the sunsets every night.

Just okay
If you’re in a pinch, book it. It gets the job done.
Onto the issues:
Driveway holds 1 car not 4. You can fit 3 cars around the area total.
No propane in grill
No garbage bags, had to buy
No dish soap, had to buy
No yard at all, all concrete pad them drop off into lake.
Wouldn’t recommend for infants / toddlers or young kids
4th bedroom you about have to crawl through the doorway it’s so low.
Run microwave and oven while cooking and breaker constantly blows
Two cameras on the property not mentioned in the listing
Again, if you’re in a pinch book it but I feel the listing far over sells what the property is.

Beautiful sunsets!
We had a great time at this lake house! The sunsets were amazing! The house is set close to the water with a deck and cement patio. We enjoyed the fire pit and sitting under the shade tree. The water is shallow for a great distance with a sandy bottom and no seaweed. Two kayaks were provided. The living room has a great view of the lake. The three bedrooms were comfortable and the 4th attic bedroom is only suitable for children. The owner was very kind and responsive in locating and returning an import item that was left behind in the house. Thank you again!

A bit tight on the street
The host is very helpful, kind and courteous. Pulling in, the street, parking, is a bit cramped. I’m not so sure I’d call the 4th bedroom a proper bedroom. It’s more like an attic. The home Is very nice though, being right on the lake. The views are stunning over the lake. A few quirks, but where else can you stay right on the water for only $350 per night.

Beautiful lake view.
The lake view was amazing with wonderful sunsets. The lake was a bit shallow with sand bars that made boating a bit difficult if you aren’t familiar with the lake. The lake was big and enough space for tubing and other water activities. The home was clean but could have more attention to details. Especially the outside area. A quick sweep of the patio and clean up of the yard would make this home much more appealing. The inside while represented online looked big and updated, really wasn’t the case. Again it was clean but our expectations were higher based on the listing. It’s a nice peaceful location to stay, but realize that how it is portrayed online is different to the reality of it. The kayaks provided were a plus and enjoyed.
