About this cabin rental
Winding up to Elk Mountain Lodge is an experience in it of itself. Just a little over a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, the views getting to this beautiful log cabin are breathtaking. At 3,500 foot elevation, the cabin is nestled among very tall, beautiful hard woods and is a certified National Wildlife Habitat.
Upon entering, this real log home will captivate you with its soaring ceilings, stone gas fireplace, and the warmth of wood throughout. The open floor plan of the kitchen, dining area, and great room allows everyone to gather and spend time together. Three living levels also provides the opportunity to go off and find a quiet corner if need be, or grab someone for a round of billiards or Arcade-style PAC Man located in the lower level game room.
Expansive wooden decks run the entire length of the home, and take in the panoramic, long range mountain views that will enchant you during your entire stay. Elk Mountain Lodge affords you a chance to relax and recharge in the hot tub among the mountain laurels or spend the day out to enjoy all the surrounding areas have to offer.
Being minutes away from America's favorite scenic highway, the Blue Ridge Parkway, allows you to enjoy spectacular views from overlooks such as Glassmine Falls (Milepost 361.2) or experience local Appalachian craftsmanship at the Folk Art Center (Milepost 382). Biking, hiking, white water rafting, rock climbing, water falls, and zip lining are all available within close proximity to the cabin. If you are interested in experiencing first-rate restaurants, breweries, galleries, shops, spas, and entertainment, downtown Asheville is the place to go.
This private log cabin is 25 minutes from Downtown Asheville, 35 minutes from the Asheville Regional Airport, 30 minutes from the Biltmore Estate, 25 minutes to Craggy Gardens (Milepost 364.4), and 40 minutes away from Mount Mitchell (Milepost 355.4), highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,685 foot elevation.
Elk Mountain Lodge does have a paved but somewhat steep driveway, very common for mountainside homes. In the snowy winter months, four-wheel drive is recommended.
For larger families and groups, the neighboring property, Dancing Bear Den, is also available on vrbo.com listing 2400642.

We loved this house and it had a lot of the things we needed. The decks were beautiful and there was lots of space. Everything was great until we ran out of water while trying to get 13 people ready for family pictures. We didn’t have water to make dinner or bathe the last evening we were there. The host worked with us and we had water to eat breakfast this morning, but imagine the panic…everything else nice

Lovely location in a beautifully nested home. Lots of room to spread out for our adult family. We had such a great time on the deck and in the spa. We liked that it was away from the busyness of town but we could be easily get to hikes, shopping and restaurants if we wanted. Can't imagine the view when the leaves change!

My family all stayed comfortably in this house. 11 adults and 7 kids. The views were amazing and house was perfect for our family vacation.

The property was perfect for our get together. Location appeared to be remote but was close to downtown Asheville and to the local golf course. The house had all the amenities of home with great views of the surrounding mountains

We rented the house for a 20 year reunion and it was perfect. It was peacefully tucked away but amenities in Asheville were easily accessible. Ample space for 10 adults and well appointed bedrooms & kitchen. We’d definitely stay there again!

This is a beautiful location with lots to do within 20 minutes of driving. The location was nice with a good view but the location has a few issues starting to show that this is used only as a $ making vacation rental for people who don’t actually use the property themselves.
-Deferred maintenance and safety issues: Lots of carpenter bees are drilling into the house, there are also plenty of holes for critters to get into, and there are flying squirrels in the attic.
The deck is showing its age and the banisters only have 1 nail (not screws?) holding them at the top and bottom. These could easily be pushed out by a child. There was even a banister missing on one side of the deck, which is not safe for little kids.
-There were other issues in the house that were quickly resolved (coffee maker stopped working and was replaced, spill in the hot tub was quickly cleaned) but there were other issues the property manager very rudely blamed us for (hot tub jet and screen issues) but were issues when we arrived (hot tub was set at 82 and the screen was frozen). And while the issues were resolved quickly, the house definitely shows the property manager does not make an effort to actually check the property very often.
Also, a weird conundrum - there is not a place to hang towels anywhere in the house. There is not a single hook in any bathroom or ring for hand towels.
Finally, something I felt was misleading- listing shows a fully stocked wood shed but no firewood is provided

13 of us stayed for my sisters bachelorette party and had the best time! The bedrooms are very spacious and we loved the outdoor decks! As other reviews mentioned the drive way is intimidating but was easy to get the hang of. We loved being in a more secluded area and able to get down to town within 20 minutes for dinner. Would absolutely recommend any large groups staying here.

The house is very clean, beautiful, with a perfect view. My friends and I really enjoyed our stay here for a long weekend in Asheville. No complaints.

This property is truely beautiful. The views from the decks are awesome. We were even able to see the Aurora Borealis!!! Very clean and inviting. Made our son's graduation weekend celebration awesome!!!

This place was beyond words! Very accomodating rooms for large group. House was very clean, kitchen very organized with everything you need to cook, and the amenities included a hot tub and a game room. Nice touch from host of wine and coffee. Con was the drive down to the property, which is steep. Also, one bedroom is without a door that is near the kitchen. If you're in the breakfast room chatting or watching tv in family room this room can hear it all. Otherwise this place is awesome!

The lodge was a lovely space to for 5 couples.More than enough room, beautiful view and well stocked. All we needed to bring was food and drink. But beware the last mile! Winding mountain road often without guard rails, and the last turn into the driveway is essentially blind and steep. Would highly recommend arriving in the day. Otherwise a perfect stay.

Ps - lots of bears in the area when we visited which was so fun!

I planned a bachelorette to stay at this property. It was the perfect spot for a lot of girls! Tons of space to spread out and good bathroom space as well. The host and property manager were super responsive and even dropped by to fix a few small issues we had.
The only downside to the property is the steep driveway/curvy roads to get there (but should be expected if staying in the mountains).

We had a great stay at Carlos and Theresa’s cabin. The location was perfect, more than enough sleeping space — it was the perfect location for a girls getaway.

Our stay was amazing! The lodge was clean and easy to access. The lodge is surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife. It was nice how short of a drive it was to the city.

This cabin was the ideal retreat for my 40th bday weekend girls mountain trip. The cabin was clean and well appointed. We cooked most of our meals at home at the kitchen was well stocked both with cookware and the basic pantry items. The view from the deck was beautiful and the hot tub was really higher end model. This home is particularly good for a group of adults and there is no obvious "kids room" with no beds smaller than queens. We enjoyed the proximity to downtown Asheville while still feeling like a remote mountain retreat. Owners were responsive leading up to the trip and allowed us to pay a small fee for an early check-in. I would highly recommend a stay in this cabin!

My family and I wanted to be in a cabin for the Christmas holidays and boy were we surprised. It was absolutely beautiful. We had a great Christmas, the views were amazing and the Mountain View was breathtaking. The communication from the hosts was timely and specific to my families needs. I will definitely be recommending this cabin to other family and friends. The only thing I would say is the driveway is very steep and if visiting from another state and not familiar with the mountains be careful. Overall we had a wonderful time and a great family vacation.

We had an amazing time at this home on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We hung out at the house and enjoyed the views, picked up pizza from Asheville Pizza South, had a driver pick us up to take us downtown for the day, and enjoyed football and playing pool Saturday night. Gorgeous home and met all of our needs.

My 3 siblings and I took my mother here for her 80th birthday over Thanksgiving weekend.
She had a blast!
We had all the amenities to have a thanksgiving meal and enjoy family.
The Biltmore is a short drive away. The Blue Ridge parkway is pretty much out the front door.
I'm definitely recommending this VRBO to my friends.

Our family gathered here for a wedding. The lodge was very clean and spacious and everyone had their own room and bed.
We were fogged in for 2 days so getting up and down the mountain on the twisty roads was a challenge. We even saw 5 bears crossing the road as we were leaving!

Our stay couldn't have been better. Wonderful property. View was excellent. Thank you!

Very nice property, excellent accommodations, only real issue is the road access- it was a little challenging, I’m glad we arrived before nightfall.

This property had the WOW factor we wanted! Everyone had a gorgeous room. The two enormous balconies were perfect and shaded. Close to Asheville and white water rafting. The kitchen was well-equipped. Everything was clean and new. Thank you!

The place was even better than expected. Very close to everything downtown, basically just down the mountain! We had a group of adults that all felt like we had a great amount of space and everyone had a place to sleep. Incredible views! So clean and well kept. 100% would love to return some day.

Relaxing stay with a group of friends.

The house is stunning - plenty of space to enjoy with a big family or friends, but also enough room to have privacy when needed. The hot tub and deck with the STUNNING views were the highlight of the trip. Everything was clean and cozy and had plenty of essentials to allow us to cook dinner and stay there comfortably without having to buy too much extra stuff. Since it’s in the mountains, it’s a winding road to get there so just be prepared if people get car sick! But it’s close enough to downtown to get Ubers and not be stranded. I would highly recommend it!

Loved the location and accommodation. Kitchen was well stocked. Also a nice coffee bar. The house was very clean. Beds super comfortable.
Areas we thought needed improvements.
Towel bars or hooks in the bathrooms. Only one bath had that.
Hot tub could of been cleaner.

Elk Mountain Lodge has an absolutely beautiful location and was super clean and well-stocked. The hot tub was fantastic and there was plenty of space for our group of 11 to hang out and also have our own space. The driveway is steep and you're pretty far into the mountains, but we had no problems getting food delivered and making it into Downtown Asheville (Carlos and Teresa had great recommendations). Highly recommend this property!

Clean and as advertised with the exception of having to conserve our use of water

Beautiful home

This was probably the cleanest rental I’ve ever visited. Also love that there wasn’t a huge list of tasks to do before leaving so it felt like an actual vacation. The cleaning fee actually pays for someone else to clean it besides basic picking up.
My favorite rentam we’ve ever stayed at and will definitely be back!!!
Only thing I wish they had was updated television so we could stream Netflix , etc.

It was so fun hosting at this property for my girl’s bachelorette! I definitely recommend this place for stay!!

Really enjoyed our time. The owners are very easy to work with and seemed to genuinely care that we enjoy our stay. They were accommodating and pleasant to work with. The property is fantastic. The views are incredible and there is a ton of room for a very large group of people. The hot tub is outstanding. Would come back to this property in a heartbeat.

We had 4 couples for a birthday weekend and the house was perfect! The owners were prompt to answer all of only questions and the home was clean and just as described. The driveway is very steep so please keep that in mind when booking this home during the winter.

Our group of women enjoyed an annual trip to this house and we had a wonderful time! Excellent view of the mountains, big couch for all to hang out on and big spacious bedrooms, wonderful porch and hot tub. The kitchen was well suited and the gas fireplace was lovely all weekend. I would recommend bringing a Roku/fire stick to stream any services you want. It’s quite a curvy drive to the cabin from town so if you get car sick heads up. The driveway is steep but after doing it once we were all very comfortable with it. Super fast response from owners as well made us feel comfortable during our stay. Very nice decor and comfortable bed made for a lovely relaxing weekend, thank you!!
