Beautiful property and setting, but we were greatly disappointed with the thermostat situation. It was either too cold or unbearably hot. We were unable to control the thermostat....we were told it is controlled remotely!
This was a tremendous hindrance to our vacation, especially since a party member had breathing problems.
Thank You,

Enjoyed a great week at the house, swimming and fishing off the floating dock. The porch is beautiful, with a clear lake view, great hammock for naps. A lot of boat traffic back and forth in the summer (more so on weekends) but it was perfectly safe to swim and kayak along the shore, as the dock is in an alcove. The kitchen is one of the best stocked kitchens we’ve ever encountered, has all the dishes and appliances you may possibly need, and more. Perfect house layout for our family (2 adults, and 1 adult child) with two bedroom suites, with their own bathrooms, offering privacy. Comfy reclining couches, big tv for movie nights. Great to have access to a kayak, paddle-board, chairs and floats in the boat house. Amazing sunset views! For those choosing this house, be mindful of the gravel path and long staircase down to the dock. Was not a problem for us, but kids and elders would have to take extra care. Everything was well maintained though, and there were lights. Would recommend!

Good location with a good view of the lake and decent access. Lots of steps to the bottom but we expected it with the pictures provided. Very clean!

This house is lovely and very well appointed. Lots of kitchen items, linens, games and water sport items. The large deck provides a perfect view of the lake. This 2-bedroom home was lovely for our mother-daughter getaway weekend.

A fantastic house that is very clean and in great condition. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well appointed and it has a great living space. The view and access to the lake is also great. It didn't take us more than 5-10 min to get to any destinations like the grocery store or restaurants.

Such a perfect little spot. The house was great. Clean, well stocked, wonderfully laid out. The deck was amazing. We spent every morning and every evening out there with a fire burning every night. And then there were the views. Wow. Just wow. We WILL be heading back.

Beautiful house with nice location but…on our first full day at the house we left to go to the state park. We left 2 swimsuits and our young daughters life jacket on the porch railing as they were wet. When we returned several hours later the swimsuits and life jacket were gone. We looked everywhere thinking they got moved or blew away but then noticed the cover was put on the bbq (we had left it off). We called the local host and got a message that they were not available and to call the main vacasa number. We called that number and reported that someone had been on the property and taken our stuff and although the items were small we were still really bothered by the fact they were missing. The person we spoke to said he would check with maintenance to see if they had moved them because apparently the bbq was supposed to be repaired. He put me on hold. He came back and stated he didn’t find out anything but would put through an urgent request for a response. We have since spent our last night, finished our visit, checked out and made it home and we still have heard nothing. I’m concerned for anyone that stays here that has a bigger problem and really think they need to figure out what is going on before more people stay there and have more, possible more pricey items, taken. I’m bummed to leave a bad review because the house really is nice and has everything you need but something weird is going on there and no one seems concerned to deal with it.

Great place for a long weekend. Definitely rent a pontoon boat for a few days! Not the best spot for swimming or paddle boating as it’s got a lot of boat traffic. Great view! Long stairs to the floating dock are not for little kids or elderly/hose with disabilities. Perfect for our 3 day weekend.

The home was located at the end of a gravel road; secluded and quiet. The inside was welcoming and clean; the lake views spectacular.

My husband and i loved the yurt and hot tub

The house was very clean and the views from the great room and master bedroom were beautiful. It was a relaxing stay. The kitchen had many gadgets making it great to cook. The shower was awesome.
We hiked in the State park during the day, watched boats cruised by the lake and relaxed in the great room in the evening.
Two things:
the thermostat was difficult to regulate and we could not turn the heat on. We did not find instructions to use it and it was cold.
There were flying insects (nats, mosquitos) flying around the lights in the front porch.

We loved our 2 days here. Nice new clean rooms - really enjoyed the lake view despite the weather. One note to owner - ice machine kept running and running, may want to check on that.

One of the best rentals we've ever stayed in!
I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. It's SO clean; everything is brand new. The view of the lake smacks you in the face as soon as you walk through the door because the entire back of the house is windows. You can even see the lake when you wake up in the master bedroom -- which, by the way, has the most comfortable (kind-size) mattress. (I actually peeked at the brand because I want it!) Both bathrooms are fantastic, but the shower in the master bath is so large and luxurious. My 6'3" husband was thrilled! I read books and napped on the hammock, we hiked in nearby Lake Anna State Park, and watched sunsets from the dock. I can't wait to come back in the summer and use the paddleboards and inner tubes!

The home is very private and has great views of the lake. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

great stay at Lake Anna
House is great! Deck with the view is amazing. If you have access to a boat, there is a private dock at the bottom which is accessible by some stairs. They do have internet but I'd just use your own cell service as it's very slow. Also, for some reason the sliding glass doors don't have any screens to keep out the bugs. We were there in mid September where it was nice enough outside to keep the doors open but we didn't because of bugs.

Better at the Lake is a wonderful place to spend a quality time at, enjoy the time off/vacation, relax with nature, with gorgeous views of the lake from the windows and deck, relax on the hammock, get some sun on the floating deck down the hill, or just swim in the inviting, refreshing and warm lake water. The house is beautiful, warm, inviting and have anything and everything you need from the cooking items to wine, champagne and rocks glasses, wine opener and even a lemon squeezer. The house is also very clean you literally feel like in a high end hotel. If by any chance you have a rainy day, don’t worry you won’t get bored because the house has plenty of cards and board games. I/we absolutely love the house, the area, the lake…and can’t wait to go there again. Btw book in advance, this house books fast!!!

Just got home from spending a week at Better at the Lake. This is a great house. Very well equipped. Huge deck with great view. Has a floating dock for your boat. We rented a pontoon boat for the week from a local marina and it was great. We also swam off the dock which has a ladder into the water.
The two possible issues to be aware of are the path and steps to the dock. You have to walk down a sloped path from the house to boathouse and then down 47 steps to get to the dock which of course means you have to walk back up when you're done. This can be an issue if you have any older or disabled members of your group. The other issue is that the house is located at a narrower main part of the lake with a lot of boat traffic on weekends. Because of this there is a lot of wake from all the passing boats going by at full speed which can effect swimming enjoyment from the dock.
That said. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

The pros: Would love to stay here again! The actual home is wonderful and has been recently renovated. Beds were very comfortable and there is tons of space in the common areas to spread out. The house has a lot of amenities - tons of floats, paddleboards, gas grill, firepit and the deck is incredible! Wonderful views of the lake and the water is deep off the dock. Like any rental house there is a mix of kitchen stuff that's available but generally had what we needed (the knives were of superior quality, but they only had a keurig and we had to buy a coffee pot). It's also a bonus that you're very close to the grocery store!
What you should know: wifi was usable, but wasnt great. That said this whole area has bad wifi so it's probably really good considering. No beach towels, limited paper products after the first roll of paper towels and toilet paper. There was also only salt and pepper in the house - no coffee, olive oil, etc. If you need it, bring it! You're right on the lake, but it is a steep path to the water so if you were older/impaired or with really small children this probably isnt the spot for you. You're also not in a no wake zone so you do get a fair amount of waves from boats passing by.
