About this house rental
Thanks for looking at The Summer Home!
This home is ready to welcome you with its light breezy colors, mid century modern charm, well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and relaxing vibe. The home is centrally located near NMU, the shops and restaurants on Third Street, downtown Marquette, and Lake Superior.
Walking into the home you are greeted by the dining area that opens to the kitchen ahead and the living room to your right. The kitchen is well appointed and freshly painted with a 1940’s feel. The living room is furnished with comfortable, mid century modern furniture, a smart TV with Hulu and a turntable with vintage albums.
The upstairs includes a bathroom and two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed with quality linens. The guest room consists of a trundle bed with two comfortable twin beds. Both bedrooms have been freshly painted and the wood floors of honey colored fir have been freshly refinished.
The home is pet-friendly and allows up to two dogs for an additional $95 per dog. The backyard is fenced in and convenient for your dog. Please be sure to include "pets" with the number of people staying. Pets are people too! :) Because the VRBO billing system only accounts for one dog, please let us know if you will be bringing two dogs and we will add the additional charge to your reservation.
This home is centrally located on Marquette’s west side in a quiet neighborhood, approximately four blocks to the Third Street restaurants, brew pubs, coffee houses, and shops, approximately four blocks to Northern Michigan University, approximately eight blocks to the Washington Street downtown, and approximately eight blocks to the beach.
This home shares the property with a carriage house, which means there's another house in the back. The carriage house dates back to the days when a relative would live in the back house, also known as a "grandma house" or "mother-in-law house". The other home is also a vacation home (VRBO #2740656). The driveway is shared with the carriage house but your home has its own allotted parking space and has its own private fenced in backyard.
The backyard has a grill with charcoal, lighter fluid, fire starter and cooking utensils as well as a fire pit with firewood for enjoying a relaxing evening with friends and family.

This was a cute and clean place in a very convenient spot downtown. Everything was walking distance and we had a great time visiting Marquette.

This cute house within walking distance of the lovely downtown Marquette was a great place to stay. It's cozy and comfortable and we had no issues. It's got a fun retro style and plenty of space.
The hosts we friendly and had plenty of recommendations. Everything was easy and straight forward with. They even left us a cute welcome basket. The hosts were excellent.
Marquette was a good place to stay that was a quick drive to lots of popular UP stops.
Note for future guests: If you're over 6ft tall, you're going to have to duck in the shower.
The private yard didn't feel quite private. While it is fenced in and great to have for quick pet bathroom breaks, there is a carriage house on the property with tenants and pets. Not a big deal, but our dog likes to bark so we couldn't leave him out to enjoy the yard with others around.

We loved our stay in this cozy house with retro vibe. The turntable and albums were a blast from the past! We had everything we needed to enjoy our time in Marquette. Thank you for the lovely stay!

This is an extremely well decorated and cute place in a neighborhood that is very walkable (and extremely bikeable) to downtown Marquette. The beds were comfortable, the place was very pleasing to the eye, and my family loved it. I would 100% stay there again - Marquette was gorgeous and we really enjoyed ourselves. Hosts were great - very responsive and hospitable. Highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed here for eight nights and we were very pleased with it! The house is cozy and well-equipped (very much appreciated the French press in the kitchen!) and comes with a detailed guide to the property and the area. The street is beautiful and quiet, but still an easy walk or drive to the downtown core. The hosts were very easy to get in touch with. We'd happily stay here again next time we're in town!

Overall this place was a great location and the decor was so cute. The quality of books and records were great, if I didn't have young kids this would have been such a fun place to read and zen out.
I do however wish it was a bit more family friendly for younger kids. The stairs were ultra steep and not really safe for little ones (we had to buy a couple of baby gates and door latches). So I would advise guests to bring their own baby proof stuff. Also the house is an older one so it is a bit unlevel, the ventilation is in the floor but you can. See straight through the next floor. Not super awesome for quiet and the bathroom you can see up through the kitchen. Not a deal breaker for a family, but did not like that the vents weren't screwed down so I got a little worried that my toddler was going to lift it off and fall through the ceiling.

We had a great stay!!! Everything in the house was exactly as described and every amenity was provided.
Great location! We walked to our daughters graduation at NMU, we walked to restaurants, we walked to get ice-cream and we walked every evening to McCartys for a beach walk.
We loved everything about it!

I had another lastminute trip and stayed here again. I appreciated the welcome basket and there was a bone for my dog! I love the record player; I was able to enjoy it this time. It was consistent with the property manager sending me a message ahead of time welcoming me the space, and the cleanliness. You can't go wrong with the price either. It's got everything you need for your stay.

The owners contacted me a few days prior to the visit with details on the space. It was my dog and me, and it was a perfect size, including enough space for me to do yoga in the living room. I love small details so the little welcome cookies were a wonderful thought. I appreciated the extra towels they have as well. Great space, and I recommend staying here!

The property was located in a quiet neighborhood close to downtown Marquette and NMU. It’s decorated in a 50’s retro style and they included treats from local businesses like Donkers.

this is a great place to stay if you want to be close to campus and close to the many shops the main street. Everything worked out well and best of all there was air conditioning as it is 80 degrees while we were there. We all enjoyed the firepit and the fenced in back yard. Beds were also super comfortable.

Very cute vintage vibe house. Upon opening the door, we felt special with a local amenity basket that was such a nice touch. The house is centrally located to walk to campus (we enjoyed the free Devos Museum of Art) and to Third Street where there are a bunch of restaurants and breweries. We happened upon the last Thursday night outdoor concert series with a dozen bands lining the entire span of Third Street. The area is a Social District where you can grab a drink and wander to the next spot. It was fun! The town has great restaurants with an artsy vibe. The host was very accommodating and the house had everything we needed for our stay. Both beds were very comfortable and the place was spotless! Would definitely recommend!

Great location - able to walk to Superior Dome, Shiras Park, restaurants/shops on 3rd St and Washington St. Home was clean, decorated very cute, had a fenced in backyard with a fire pit and grill, front porch space with chairs, AC window units both upstairs and downstairs. Really had everything we would want and was comfortable and convenient. We had a dog and infant with us and it was a good space for the whole family.

House was clean and great location to be able to walk to NMU. Centrally located with easy access to anywhere in Marquette. Host communication was excellent. Fenced in yard for the dog was nice with access to charcoal grill and bonfire pit. A perfect location for our needs this late summer weekend.

We greatly enjoyed our stay here. We brought our infant and our old dog with us. This was a great location close to downtown but nice and quiet. The house was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. This was greatly appreciated after a long day on the trails! We would definitely stay here again.

Loved our stay in this retro style home with all the comfort you need for sleeping and relaxing. All the rooms are well thought out with decor and books neatly displayed throughout for enjoyment. The beds and covers were wonderful for sleeping or napping. Loved and appreciated the quality, soft towels in the bathroom. Walking distance to NMU and nearby downtown. The bike trail is also extremely close! Appreciated the excellent communication with the hosts. Would definitely stay again.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and we loved it! Very clean and retro stylish home very close to downtown Marquette. Very comfortable furnishings and master bed. We did not use the adorable yellow room so I can’t comment on how comfortable the bed is - but that room just exudes happiness😊. We loved the record player and the great selection of records - very cool! My only complaint is very minor - there wasn’t any salt and pepper provided - we fixed that! I would definitely stay here again!

Greg and Kate were communicative without being overbearing and the property is charming but the location is even better than the home. We walked to the University campus, to third street, to the beach and to downtown.

We had a wonderful time staying in Marquette recently. The house was exactly what we thought it would be and my wife & 2 grandchildren appreciated all of the touches of home.
Greg did a great job communicating along the way and appreciated their flexibility when Marcy decided to bring her little dog “Elle Mae” along. Thank you!!!
Hope to be back soon

We enjoyed our stay here. It's a great neighborhood, and the house comes exactly as advertised. House was clean, hosts were responsive, and we really enjoyed being able to use the backyard. I loved that they provided firewood. I also appreciated the little touches such as frosted mugs in the freezer and local treats. I would have rated it a 5 if it had 1.5 baths and a washer/dryer. Also, know that there is a rental property behind the house (as it says in the listing), so you have to be careful that your drapes are drawn as it is easy for people to see in the back of the house. It would be perfect if your group is large enough to rent both spaces. Also, while it didn't bother us, know that the stairs to the 2nd floor are steep and narrow, which could be challenging for some people. We would stay again. I've stayed at a few rentals in Marquette, and this one is my favorite so far.

This is such a cute and comfy house to stay at. Love the mid-century modern decor. The fenced in backyard was great for our little dog. Location is in a quiet neighborhood that is in walkable distance to downtown. Communication with Greg was great. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Marquette. Thanks Greg for a great stay!

The house is outstanding. It was well stocked with all you might need, very clean, and in a great location.
You can walk to Third Street in 10 minutes.
The house has a real retro vibe and the decor is appealing.
The backyard is fenced for bigger dogs but the slats are a little too far apart to keep smaller dogs inside.
Communication with the owners is great and check in and out was easy and smooth.
This a place to keep on your " return to list"

This was a quaint, cozy home in the perfect location! We were within walking distance from great restaurants and coffee shops on Third St. and Washington St. Close to NMU but in a quiet neighborhood. The home is beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you need for your stay- right down to the frosted mugs in the freezer to enjoy a BlackRocks or Ore Dock brew. Loved the record player too! Our hosts were amazing and super communicative from the very beginning. We will be back!

Such a great stay and nicely equipped property! We had everything we could have needed and enjoyed an evening bonfire, tunes on the record player, and a couple home cooked meals for our NMU student, and a tour for another prospective student. The home is situated in a great location to campus and all the Marquette has to offer. It was nice to be be able to bring our pup along for the trip too. The basket of goodies was a nice surprise as well! We are looking forward to coming back!
