PLEASE BE AWARE:
To obtain a booking, potential guests MUST tell us something about themselves. WHEN YOU SEND AN INQUIRY OR BOOKING REQUEST, PLEASE LET US KNOW WHO YOU ARE, WHAT YOU DO (OR DID) FOR A LIVING, THE PURPOSE OF YOUR VISIT AND WHO YOU WILL BE COMING WITH. We are not entrepreneurs. We are an elderly couple who are just trying to make ends meet by renting out the front apartment of our two apartment duplex.

Cheese, crackers? Snacks? For extended stays, fresh cut flower bouquet? Yes, we have all that covered for you! Be sure to check out the great (if I say so myself) photos of the apartment AND the video tour. Just click on the picture of the house and cycle on through to the third photo (don't miss the rest) and click on the play triangle to view Jon's video tour. If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much can a video be worth? You tell me....

My family of three completely enjoyed the recent holiday in this charming, spotless, and well appointed 1920s duplex perfectly situated for walking and driving to favorite places in Berkeley and beyond.
The hosts were thoughtful and welcoming beyond all others known through many vacation stays, surprising us with our favorite treats upon arrival. Communication by text and email was clear and easy.
This beautifully furnished and art-filled space comfortably accommodated three adults relaxing in different ways: sleeping, reading, drawing, cooking. The kitchen and all that it supplied was a marvel. The garden was also delightful.
To experience a classic Berkeley dwelling updated with immaculate and contemporary cleanliness and comfort was a joy. This is a special place and highly recommended.

This was just a perfect location for us to stay while we explored the Bay Area…. easy access to everything while out of the city rat race. The accommodations were wonderful and Jon and Mary are gracious hosts.

We stayed in this beautifully appointed apartment while we moved our son into Cal. It was the perfect spot for my Husband and I to relax and enjoy Northern Berkeley. We walked everywhere and really got to take in the surrounding neighborhoods. The breezes in the afternoon were glorious! We will be back.

Hosts proactively communicated -- very timely.
They thought ahead and provided several amenities to make us feel at home. Place was very clean, the photos are accurate -- it is a lovely home. Quiet neighborhood, easy walk to local shops for fresh food. We hope to stay here again when we return.

From the moment Jon and Mary met us to take us through the property we were enchanted. The flowers, the neighborhood, the thoughtful gifts of coffees, croissant, cheese, sweeties, and more - I felt as though we were welcome friends invited into a beautiful home. Others have commented on how well appointed the home is and remarked on the great location. All true. The property is so nicely furnished, so clean, every little thing is just right, convenient, clean and inviting. Parking was never an issue - as promised there was always a place. The neighborhood is just lovely, so many charming homes and flowers everywhere. We felt safe. It was quiet even though close to grocery shopping and great restaurants. Jon and Mary were immediately responsive to everything we asked about and could not have been better hosts. There is no place we would rather stay in the Bay and hope to come back often! This place is perfect!

This might be the best place to stay in Berkeley. The apartment was perfectly clean. The bed, furniture, and carpets were comfortable. The kitchen, appliances, bathroom, heating system, door locks, even the paint: all were in good repair. The art, furnishings, kitchen ware, etc struck a perfect balance, avoiding both clutter and the bare emptiness that mars many rentals. The kitchen was very well equipped for people like my wife and I who often cook when traveling.
The location, for us, was ideal, within walking distance of the Monterey Market, Chez Panisse, the Berkeley campus, and the BART station. This part of Vine Street is very quiet, with no through traffic and plenty of parking. The owners live in the other duplex apartment to the rear; we never heard them.
The owners, Jon and Mary, were welcoming, available and helpful when needed, and at the same time respectful of our privacy. We certainly hope we can stay here again on future trips to Berkeley.

This charming, well-maintained house is in an interesting, eclectic and safe neighborhood within walking distance to many wonderful restaurants. It's a short car drive to the UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens. We found it easy to take BART to/from Oakland Airport as well. Jon and Mary have provided lots of great information about where to go and what to do, as well as kindly furnishing lovely treats!

My adult disabled son and I had an excellent stay. The location was perfect for us to walk up to Shattuck and around the neighborhood. I slept on the sofa bed and it was very comfortable.

This was the best stay we have had. Everything is thoughtfully provided for in this small house. The kitchen has all you’ll need, including knives that satisfied this picky cook, toaster, toaster oven, microwave, gas range, oven, coffee apparatus, down to the plastic wrap and zip lock babes. Not just an iron, but a steamer too. And more, all is a truly lovely home. Comfortable bed. I was worried about parking because there’s no dedicated space. Jon assured me that there is always parking on the street and there was — on the same short block — every time for 8 days. Jon and Mary are extremely welcoming, and then become perfectly unobtrusive. The house is basically between Monterey Market and Chez Panisse — a great location. Extremely good value. Pick this one; you won’t be sorry.

As lovely as pictured online: immaculate, with extraordinarily high quality furnishings; artful decor; beautifully restored period woodwork & hardwood floors; a very well-equipped kitchen with great welcoming pastries, snacks & some essentials in the fridge-tho with the surfeit of wonderful nearby bakeries, & restaurants with available take-out or delivery, there was no motivation at all to cook; and had no safety or parking concerns. We stayed 1 1/2 weeks & would’ve stayed longer but new guests were already scheduled.

I would definitely stay again.

Wonderful Stay In Berkeley
Stayed for a week here while visiting our daughter & family in Berkeley. We met Jon & Mary, who were very gracious hosts. They provided us with breakfast for our 1st full day & later dropped off fruit from a local market. We will definitely stay here again at some future date. Tim & Cindy S.

Wonderful Spot in North Berkeley!
I cannot recommend Jon and Mary's apartment enough. We stayed for eight days for our son's graduation from UC Berkeley. Jon and Mary are excellent hosts - readily available if you have any questions but completely give you space otherwise. They left a fantastic welcome gift of fruit, pastries, flowers, and wine upon our arrival. There were 3 of us as our older son accompanied us for the celebration. He slept on the pullout sofa in the living room and was very comfortable. We never felt on top of each other in the space. The location to Shattuck is excellent, and we were able to walk daily to grab coffee or meals and not have to use the car constantly. Solano Avenue is also just a very short drive. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely yet close enough to all. We would definitely stay again!

This apartment is an absolute gem. We stayed for two weeks while visiting family, and it became our little oasis. The property is beautifully maintained, well-appointed, full of light, and extremely comfortable; we wanted for absolutely nothing. Everything worked perfectly, and there's a sweet little back deck where we sat at all hours of the day. The apartment is in a beautiful home; flowers line the stairs up to the apartment, the neighborhood is quiet, and there is ample street parking. There are abundant shops within walking distance, and of course all of the pleasures of Berkeley to enjoy. But best of all were the hosts, Jon and Mary, who could simply not have been more hospitable, generous, and helpful. We can't wait to go back.

Berkeley in Style!
Hosts Jon and Mary have thought of everything to make this little apartment perfect. The bed (most important) was wonderfully comfortable, the linens and towels of the highest quality, the kitchen was fully equipped for all the cooking we never did., and there were notes describing the attractive prints throught the apartment. Jon and Mary provided a nice continental breakfast for the first morning and there was Peet's dark roast for the mornings and cheese and wine for our whole stay. Jon was ready, willing and able to offer advice on restaurants and Berkeley sites, but quickly laid off when he saw we didn't want much help.. In short, we had a perfect stay.
One small caveat: there are a dozen steep steps to and from the front door--go slow.

We have stayed in VRBO and similar properties in the U.S., Canada, Iceland, and several European countries. All of them were good, but I can honestly say that this Berkeley apartment was the best of the best. We were there for several weeks (Dec. - Jan. 2021/22). Jon and Mary are great hosts, very responsive to any questions or needs. The apartment is bright, comfortable, and furnished with everything you might want, and the location is excellent - easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping, Peet's, UC Berkeley, etc. What more could you ask for?
