House of the Ocean Sun is a modern, stylish waterfront home with clean finishes that provide a sense of luxury, but also livability. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a group of friends looking for a fun, relaxing, and stylish retreat. With high quality furniture, mattresses, linens and amenities galore.
There is a cozy fireplace in the living room with an accordion glass wall opening the entire house to the stunning Salish Sea. The deck is off of the living room with a dining table, outdoor sofa, hot tub and BBQ. Follow the private path down to the bench on the water or enjoy the picnic table and firepit for s’mores or stargazing. For a private moment, visit the lower deck and sit in the basket swing.
The Primary suite, located upstairs, has a 20-foot vaulted ceiling, a King bed with luxury mattress and linens, a Smart TV, a sound machine, an aromatherapy diffuser, and Alexa speaker for you to enjoy. There is a reading area with a sofa and library as well. Finally, step out of your sliding glass door onto your private balcony overlooking the Salish Sea.
The stunning en-suite bathroom features heated floors, dual sinks with a custom live edge countertop, 2 shower heads, and a large pedestal soaker tub. This is the bathroom of your dreams!
The Guest suite is located on the main level and features an upholstered Queen bed with luxury mattress and linens, a large armoire closet, a sound machine, an aromatherapy diffuser, and Alexa speaker for you to enjoy. The bathroom is located on the main level just steps away from the Guest suite which features dual sinks with a custom fir wood countertop and a large glass shower with marble tile. Located in the closet is a washer and dryer with all your laundry and cleaning needs.
There is a stylish dining area with a bronze chandelier, a 6-person dining table and a wonderful view of the Salish Sea. A large wall of accordion glass doors completely opens to a large deck for an indoor/outdoor experience with breathtaking water views of the sound below. Here, you'll enjoy outdoor dining with a table and seating for 6, a stainless-steel BBQ grill, as well as the relaxing views.
The living room has a gas fireplace, a large sectional sofa, an armchair, coffee table, a telescope, an Alexa system, and a large 55-inch Smart TV for logging into streaming services. The sofa opens into a regular queen-sized bed. The large cabinet in the entry offers plenty of space for the guests staying in the living room to store their belongings. There is excellent Wi-Fi and cell reception for those needing to connect.
You'll find the kitchen is well stocked with spices and quality cookware for guests to prepare meals during their stay. An island with seating and stainless-steel appliances make this kitchen a cook's dream. The "little extras" will help make your use of the kitchen enjoyable. We walked in and promptly decided to cancel our activity plans for the next day -- we were just so in love with the home and wanted to stay & enjoy it! The home is close to Friday Harbor without being too close, very quiet and restful. We loved sitting on the deck in the early morning hours (well, really all parts of the day). Our bird app identified 7-10 different types of birdsong. The home was beautifully designed and furnished and we used the fireplace everyday. I'd love this for my own home. I'm already planning to return next summer! This did not impact us, but I do want to call out the bedroom doors for those who may have stronger privacy needs (eg couples). The upstairs bedroom is its own distinct space but it does not have an actual bedroom door (although the upstairs bathroom does have a door). The main floor bedroom has a barn door which covers the door but still has the typical gaps above and to the sides. We didn't hear much, just some talking sometimes, but ymmv.

Stunning views, beautifully appointed home, enjoyed every part of our stay from sunrises in the Adirondack chairs to sunsets in the hot tub. Kitchen had all amenities we needed for meals. The coffee bar with espresso machine, multiple types of coffee beans and syrups were a great touch. Champagne was chilled and welcoming when we arrived. We saw whales, dolphins, and deer all from the back deck . We will be back!

This property had many modern amenities., from the cozy fireplace, fancy shower, appliances to the hot tub with amazing view. We did have someone using the living room pull out couch, so it would be nice to have shades or curtain, for better sleep. Otherwise everything was great. We even saw a few dolphins, seal and deer!

Wow, what a stunning place! The house itself is wonderful, extremely comfortable and cozy with pretty much everything you could want. Having coffee beans on hand was a great touch to make it easy to have a great cup of coffee while admiring the fantastic view. While the house itself is wonderful, the view is that much better. The large porch and additional chairs down closer to the water made it easy to just chill when not out enjoying the rest of what San Juan Island has to offer. We would absolutely love to come stay again!

We had an absolutely amazing time with the view and all of the great amenities the house had to offer. We found ourselves staying in more than going out! Kitchen is fully stocked and ready for any type of cooking or dessert making that one wants to do! Highly recommend staying at this property, secluded, quiet, and beautiful. I know I will be back.

We stayed for two nights as a quick getaway and it was the most welcoming enjoyable rental I’ve stayed at for awhile. We loved the view and the bathrooms - the hot tub on the deck were great! We tended to watch movies upstairs since the living room tv was a little high, so it was nice to have the option. The tea kettle may need replacing - just a note- there was residue coming off the bottom floating around in the water. Also, it was be super nice to add smaller spoons. The spoons were huge! Just helpful hints for the managers ;) we wouldn’t hesitate to come back!

One of my main concerns about rental properties is the experience of the reality v the listing, meaning you discover negatives that you just can't determine from the photos or description. In the House of the Ocean Sun, I am thrilled to say that the home met and exceeded my expectations in every respect!The home is exactly as it's pictured and described; it's gorgeous, clean, incredible views, high-end everything. And a delightful bonus is that literally everything in the home is labeled, light switches, cabinets, towels, kitchen drawers so it was incredibly EASY to find anything I needed. I just loved that as sometimes I spent hours just trying to figure out what goes where and, of course, forget where to put things afterwards.The hot tub is the best I've ever used at a VRBO property. It's serviced and maintained and it's HOT - 104 degrees - and the view of the Salish Sea is unmatched.Also, San Juan Property Management did a wonderful job communicating and they were responsive to everything we needed. This property is expensive, but well worth the value. I highly recommend it!

I do not recommend renting this house in the summer unless and until the promised "air conditioning" system is replaced. In fact, the house has some sort of ductless heat pump system that does not cool the house when the sun is shining. The air-handling unit on the main floor did not function properly because it kept detecting that the unit was freezing up. Eventually, it started to drip water and had to be turned off. The air-handling unit on the upper floor only recirculated the hot air on that floor.
We contacted San Juan Property Management, the VRBO host for the property. They sent someone to the house, but he was unable to improve the situation and conceded that the system was "not well-designed." We also spoke with Chris, the Property Manager for SJPM, who admitted that because the house is black, and a heat load builds up in the crawl space above the second floor, the heat pump system is not capable of cooling the house. It was hot inside and we were very uncomfortable.
Opening the windows for cooler air once the sun set was not an option because there are no screens on the windows. We tried opening windows, but a lot of bugs flew in. Before you rent this house, and particularly given how expensive it is, you need to ask SJPM whether the "air conditioning" system has been replaced and screens have been placed on the windows. By the way, SJPM did offer us a "courtesy refund" of about 5%, but only if we ageed to say nothing negative in this review.

We are a family of 5 - My wife and I + 3 older kids. 5 night stay. From the moment we drove up and walked in, we were in awestruck. The location is ideal and the view is amazing! On the water and isolated, yet just 10 min from downtown Friday Harbor. Super comfortable and modern with all the supplies you need for a memorable and relaxing stay. Especially loved the espresso machine, vinyl record player, hot tub and grill! Appreciated the extra amenities and touches too - hot tub towels, extra coffee and espresso beans, laundry and dishwasher detergents, and champagne on ice upon arrival! 😊 We would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone!

We loved our stay. We VRBO often and this tops the list. Not just because the house was beautiful and in a beautiful location, but also because the hosts thought of everything (so we didn’t have to)! So many details, niceties, and it included everything you wish all rentals would include—spices, olive oil, TP, paper towels, laundry soap, dish and dishwasher detergent, literally everything. Oh, and we were greeted with a hand-written welcome note and a bottle of champagne on ice! Truly 5 stars all the way around.

Perfect and relaxing location. The house was immaculate and exactly as pictured and the hosts were very responsive to our questions even on this holiday weekend. This was our first trip to San Juan Island and we couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful experience. The one bummer was the listen had pictured and mentioned a ping pong table as one of the amenities and we were looking forward to that as a family. The host did explain the last minute change once we inquired. And the details the hosts put into this home (champagne on arrival, lovely music playing, lavender, fabulous espresso machine to name a few) more than made up for this one detail. The view was spectacular.

From the moment you walk into the house, the view will take your breath away. The home is exactly as pictured … beautiful, clean, well stocked, and every effort has been made by the owners to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We are two couples celebrating our 50th wedding anniversaries and we could not have asked for a more magical place to spend this special time! On our last day, we saw a pod of Orcas from our deck!!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful island home!

The House of the Ocean Sun is a design lovers dream!Beautiful finishes and comfortable furnishings plus very tasteful artwork make this house a pleasure to spend time in. The hot tub, barbecue and outside spaces are great and even though it was a bit chilly when we visited, the view from the living room made us feel like we were outside all the time. Very nice house but be aware that there is a steep spiral staircase to reach the master suite upstairs which someone with less than agile abilities might find challenging. Our family likes to cook and there were some essentials missing from the kitchen like a variety of pots and pan sizes, a garlic press and working can opener and other kitchen tools. I mentioned this to the rental agents and they said they would attend to it. All in all, a very sweet spot!

Things we loved The view to this place is absolutely amazing!! Hot tub was in a great location on the deck, fireplace was warm and pretty, everything was labeled and easy to find.
Although I was impressed with the quality of the rental I was disappointed in the details. There was no towel hooks inside the house or outside by the hot tub, had to hang them on door handle. Upstairs bedroom no door, and downstairs has a barn door. As two couples that came together you can imagine how awkward that is to have “sexy” time. Also you pay a premium for this property and a $500 deposit, yet they expect a 10am checkout and claim it’s “covid cleaning” you also pay almost $400 for cleaning. I find this extremely unreasonable.. 1 hour later checkout is nice to extend to guest that pay so much to stay. My toilet upon arrival in the downstairs still had pee droplets on it and the glass shower was still dirty.

We loved our stay for our wedding anniversary! Just some quiet alone time with my husband. No kids, no hustle of everyday life; just a beautiful home with an even more amazing view! The hot tub was great perk and so relaxing. Very private and secluded but yet so close to town. We can’t wait to stay here again. I’m trying to convince my husband to come each year for our anniversary. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
