Stan and I arrived and were met by Butch and joined shortly thereafter by Brenda. We knew the cabin was miles away from their beautiful log home but they wasted no time. They hopped into the side-by-side and we followed them down to the river. The drive was amazing!
When we arrived at the cabin, we were in awe of the view. To say this cabin and its location are stunning is an understatement. Here, you are truly off-grid. No anything but enjoying all the beautiful quiet of nature and the rustling sound of the river.
The cabin is cute with all the basics and there is a propane grill, and the gas stove looks absolutely ancient, but works great! We enjoyed the eggs Brenda gifted us upon our arrival and cooked up some super hearty breakfasts.
The swimming holes are like visiting a spa but without people. The water was like bathwater. That said, absolutely make some time to walk upriver. Get past the slower parts where the algae makes the river rocks slick and you will be surprised by the crystal clear, gravely riverbed. It's about knee/waist deep so take a seat and enjoy.
If you travel further upriver, there is a boulder "graveyard." Listen carefully and you'll hear and eventually see the waterfall that originates from somewhere in the hill. Continue further and you'll likely see bear and mountain lion footprints. Prints from the blacktail deer are easily visible all along the bank.
This place is amazing, so ENJOY! --Stan & Tamara Also, we saw a BEAR!

Pictures and reviews do this cabin no justice on the level of joy and beauty this place brings. I cannot thank Brenda & Butch enough for sharing this wonderful place with everyone. From the moment we arrived and greeted with smiles, to the never ending smiles/relaxation from the views, swimming hole laughs and sounds of nature the cabin brings exceeded all expectations. It was a wonderful place to disconnect (no cell service ❤️) and just enjoy where you are. We cannot wait to come back again and again!

We LOVED staying at Brenda & Butch's fishing cabin perched about the MF Eel River! They were fantastic hosts and the views were incredible! I wanted to get away from the stress and hectic-ness of everyday life and this place delivered...big time. No cell service, no wifi, no people, it was perfect! I could have spent so much longer soaking in the views, enjoying the wildlife and decompressing. Communication with B&B was perfect, they were welcoming and super helpful. They have created a slice of heaven on a gorgeous part of this earth and I am so grateful they are willing to share it with others. Cannot recommend this place enough, we are already planning our next trip!

I can’t say enough about the wonderful time we had at the fishing cabin. Brenda is a gracious host (fresh eggs from the ranch as a welcome gift!) and made everything about our stay easy. Pictures don’t do the view justice, and we had an amazing time swimming in the cool, clear water. We had such a wonderful time and can’t wait to come back!

This is a wilderness experience without the discomfort. It's beautiful, private, serene, and the hosts are wonderful. This was our second visit, and we had a lovely time. The view from the cabin is magnificent and the cabin is charming and comfortable. Our AWD vehicle was up to the trip on their well maintained roads. The short walk down to the river is best for sure footed hikers. We will return!

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, the river and surrounding nature are hard to beat. Add to that the fishing cabin’s amenities, and we had a very memorable weekend. We spent a lot of time in the chairs by the river as well as swimming. Plenty of birds, deer, lizards, and other wildlife to observe. Really appreciated the hospitality and the check in / out process was easy and friendly!

Brenda and Butch's property is a one-of-a-kind find. They are the nicest people on earth, the cabin is cozy and the views are spectacular. This is the perfect place to unplug, unwind and relax at this spectacular ranch/river setting.

Such a peaceful and beautiful place to sink into for a few days. Our hosts Brenda and Butch could not have been more warm and welcoming.

Thank you Brenda and Butch for a wonderful stay! The Fishing Cabin and the surrounding property was such a unique experience. I couldn’t recommend the stay more. It’s the perfect place to escape and unwind. Highlights include waking up to the sunrise with the view and sounds of the river and exploring miles of trials around the property. The land pulls you further in as you explore. Around each bend and peak there’s a new view. My dog and I had a great time! Looking forward to visiting again for sure!

This property is truly special. The cabin is located above the river and is surrounded by beautiful hills and nature. It’s rare to find a place that’s so comfortable and convenient nestled in surroundings that feel remote, private, and natural. I loved watching the sun rise over the hills and listening to the rushing river water all from the comfort of the bed while I sipped my coffee. The cabin has all the conveniences you could want and each feature at the property is nicely outfitted. For example, there is a shade, lawn chairs and a raft float down at the swimming hole near the river. Every detail is covered! I spent hours hiking the property and didn’t even come close to covering the whole area. And the entire time, I didn’t see a single other person. The quiet and calm was perfect.
But beyond the lovely setting, it’s so important to note the quality of the hosts themselves. Brenda and Butch are such treasures. They obviously have poured so much love into their property and are great stewards of the land. They are a pleasure to speak to and are very responsive. You will be in very good hands if you stay at their property.
Oh and check out their other listing for a larger cabin they just completed. I had the opportunity to walk through it and it’s wonderful. It’s made from timber from their ranch and it’s breathtaking. The views are incredible, and the details inside are absolutely lovely. It could be from a page of Southern Living magazine.

This is the first time ever for us to be completely “off grid”. No cell phone. No TV. No internet. No expectations or interruptions. It was amazing. A time to just be. The view from the deck was breathtaking, each of our four days. It never got old. Butch and Brenda met us the first day at their beautiful log home…big smiles and fresh eggs. Bingo, the dog, was equally friendly. They led us in to our fishing cabin retreat, four miles from the house. Glad we had our Jeep…it was a fun dirt road. Butch pointed out the road to the swimming hole, and another to the larger cabin. But after a brief review of the amenities…that is the last we saw them until we joined up at the bigger cabin for cola and conversation (grandson Cayden joined us). We were made to feel like family…but so appreciated our private time, too.
Everything about this little cabin felt welcoming. Grandpa’s creel hanging on a bedpost, Brenda’s mother’s painting on the wall, the old iron stove and oven, and heating stove. Rocking chairs were comfy and a double bed and cozy comforter made it that much more intimate. Thankful for the powerful binoculars!! Watched the heron fishing the Eel River, spied a water snake and a turtle, saw deer on the hillside and although we didn’t see bear, we saw scat. They likely saw us.
The swimming hole was wonderful, and so thankful for the awning, easy chairs and tubes provided for us. Without question, we will return. Great memories.

This place was amazing. We saw jets fly through the canyon almost at eye level of the cabin. A bear played in the river, many deer came to drink from river, bald eagles flew by in front of the cabin. There was turtles and bunnies and lizards and frogs and so many birds. It was so relaxing. We will be back.

This is the sweetest little off-the-grid cabin imaginable. Absolutely, completely private. The view from the deck, from the bed, and from the kitchen is breathtaking. Sitting on the deck overlooking the river canyon sipping on a cocktail and looking for wildlife is heaven. The swimming hole is completely private. We loved it. Our dog loved it. And Brenda and Butch are the best hosts. We were greeted with fresh eggs! This is such a unique property, we were so fortunate to find it.

Brenda & Butch, Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your beautiful cabin & property! We couldn't have asked for a better stay! The cabin & view are absolutely amazing. We spent a lot of time at the river and sitting on the porch looking at the view and wildlife :) We loved the "off the grid" feel and it was so nice getting away! You both are wonderful hosts. We will definitely be back very soon. Thank you! - Kayla & DJ

We cannot recommend enough Brenda and Butch little fishing cabin. The place is a true gem, far from civilization, breathtaking views (the pictures really don’t do justice!), by the beautiful Eel River and surrounded by wildness. We were lucky enough to see many animals ! And it truly reminded us how beautiful California is.
We will 100% be back before the end of the year. Picture sipping tea in the morning while watching the sun rise over the mountains. If you are looking to unplug this is IT!!!

An absolutely amazing location, tiny cabin situated above a bend on the eel river and not a single neighbor around. Wake up to a view of the river and surrounding mountains. No cell/wifi is a plus! Brenda & Butch are the perfect hosts! We look forward to staying here again

My wife and I live in the Bay Area and it's crowded. So many properties we visit are just not quite as far off the grid and away from others as we really want.
Not this place. This little cabin in the woods overlooking the Eel river is away from everything. And when I say away from everything, I mean it in a way that is hard to understand these days. We stayed five nights this time. During those five nights we saw no other people. In fact, we saw no evidence of people. No trash, no noise, nothing. No noise? Not a single sound of a motor vehicle. We did, in five nights, hear one distant airplane, but that was it.
No people, no cars, no sounds but nature, no trash. That is a GREAT foundation for some serious downtime. Did I mention no WiFi or cell signal? Need to get away from constant texts, or Slack, or Teams messages, or meetings or Zoom calls? Guess what!?!? You can't have any of that here, so FORGET ABOUT IT!! Everything will be fine.
So, what else? I'll tell you what else. YOUR OWN PRIVATE RIVER.
The Eel river is yours - and just down from the cabin is an amazing swimming hole, deep enough to dive, and big enough to close your eyes and float for ten minutes before you reach the end.
I love this place. If you like solitude in nature and leaving behind the pressures of a busy urban life - far behind - you will love it to.
Not to mention Butch and Brenda are super nice and will take care of you.
Now book your stay! You will not regret it.
-Tom

This cabin was awesome. It is small, but SUPER cozy and VERY private with the most BREATHTAKING view.
They had everything we needed: all the basic kitchen utensils and tools, stove, oven, pots and pans, small fridge w freezer, coffee maker w filters, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, ziploc bags, tin foil, plastic wrap, some cooking oils, a few spices, sugar, dishwashing/cleaning supplies, towels, shampoo/conditioner/wash TP, paper towels, flashlights, gas BBQ w propane, charcoal bbq (can’t remember if I saw charcoal bricks or not), outdoor fire pit, binoculars, and plenty of drinking water.
The view is unbelievably amazing and we spent the majority of our stay on deck just taking it all in.
The hosts, Brenda and Butch, we’re great and made us feel at home right away.
I HIGHLY recommend this cabin, especially if you’re looking to un-plug!
Thank you Brenda and Butch, hopefully we’ll be back :)

Hidden gem!
What a relaxing experience! Brenda and Butch's fishing cabin was perfect for us-- remote and off the grid with amazing views! It had everything we needed: a comfy bed, a gas BBQ and a charcol BBQ in addition to the cute stove , and a paradise of a porch, where we spent most of our time. From there we had the most perfect views of the river, where we saw deer and bears(!) crossing and bald eagles flying over. And then the stars sitting in front of the fire. We felt very lucky to find this hidden gem and highly recommend it! Thank you Brenda and Butch--we hope to be back!

We could not have asked for a more perfect setting for our weekend away. The cabin is both charming and stunning with unbelievable views of the Eel river. Pictures really do not do this place justice -- the incredible beauty of the river and surrounding property can't be captured in a photo.
Brenda and Butch were incredibly gracious hosts, and were so accommodating in getting us set up. We loved chatting with them and also meeting their dogs, goats, cows, horse, chickens and pheasant!
The cabin allowed us to be completely disconnected and completely comfortable. If you need any more convincing, just imagine drinking coffee overlooking crystal clear water, then walking 5 or so minutes down to the river for a dip.
Suffice to say, we'll be back.

Connect by disconnecting
This property is nothing short of magical. As a city boy, it's a really amazing feeling to be that disconnected (both physically and electronically) from everyone. We spent our days hiking trails or exploring along the river, and our nights staring up at more stars than I've ever seen in my life. The cabin has everything you need to keep you comfortable, and the rest is up to you and nature.
One note: the water is from a spring, so not drinkable. Be sure to pick up a few gallons if you don't want to burn through 12oz plastic water bottles.

Wilderness Experience in Reach of the Bay Area
This is a beautiful Northern California ranch in the sparsely populated mountains Northeast of Willits and just west of Mendocino National Forest.
Steep, dusty dirt mountain roads require all wheel drive in all seasons, and will be a bit more challenging in wet weather, but add to the appeal incredibly.
We were greeted by Butch and Brenda, and a dozen fresh eggs from their own chickens! It was another 20 minutes over the mountain and down to their small but well appointed fishing cabin overlooking the Eel River.
This is where it gets really really good. After they left us, we heard and saw no sign of humans (aside from a few distant gunshots, and two airplane motor sounds over two days). Getting away from the city - this was magical. It felt like true wilderness. Then - there is the river. Staying at this cabin, you have your own private river to play in. We walked down the sand bar, and saw almost no garbage. almost no sign of people. I could not have been happier.
There is a very nice, deep swimming hole. We saw lots of birds; ravens, Stellar Jays, mourning doves, hummingbirds, ducks, some other water birds, two Golden Eagles.
Super cozy cabin - very romantic - such a great feeling of isolation.
I could go on for some time - this is a magical place. Stay away!!! I want it all to myself.
Thanks Butch and Brenda for the outstanding experience!!

Stunning escape by the wild Middle Fork Eel River
Brenda and Butch are friendly and helpful. We made friends in just a few days.
The cabin is sweet overlooking the stunning river valley. We spent the afternoons on the river in their shade 'cabana'. Wildlife viewing, including bear cubs swimming. So many stars & a few meteors.
If you are looking for a retreat miles from everyone, like a simple cabin and want to escape into beauty, spend a few days on the river near Covelo. You will meet the nicest hosts ever!
Can't wait to return.
