We spent a family weekend here and found everything to be comfortable and peaceful. The views of the lake and sunsets were spectacular and the time spent outside was quiet and serene. The hosts responded quickly to all queries and were very always helpful. A great time was had by all.

Beautiful sunset views, shallow water by dock but nice to swim. Kayak and boat rentals nearby and easy to rent added to our trip touring around the lake. Fire pit and BBQ and kitchen well equipped. Listing description is accurate. Our small poodles and teenage sons enjoyed it. Hosts were amazing - they shipped my makeup bag that I left behind to me. Thanks again will go back!

Great rustic cottage that has all your basic essentials in it. The property area is big and spacious with lots of green space. It's close by to local stores and all conviences one might need. The lake isn't deep at all so keep that in mind. We made a reservation for 8 but only 3 out of 4 bedrooms had linens, and there weren't enough utensils for 8 people. Besides that it's well organized, and owners are pleasant and easy to interact with. They also supply firewood.

Myself and my immediate extended family were looking for a cottage where 7 adults and 2 kids could all be together. This cottage was great for flexible start and end dates, walk out sand beach for the kids, and bring dog friendly. The owners were great to communicate with ! Would recommend bringing fans as it is an older home and does warm up throughout the day, but the AC unit works great. The town itself is very kid friendly with 2 parks and a beach all within a 1km radius. A nice treat was also that it faces west and you always get a beautiful sunset over the lake. Overall will definitely be coming back ! Thanks so much!

The cottage has an amazing view of the lake and offers tranquility and peace. We were able to enjoy the view not only from outside the cottage but also from the living room and one of the bedrooms. The host has been very quick to respond and was very helpful. As for the inside we need to remember that this is an old school cottage and not a five star hotel! However it had the essentials we needed for our stay.

Cottage was wonderful. 4 bedrooms which were more than accommodating . Fenced in deck which allowed for our dog and small children to run around. The lake was gorgeous and perfect for our inflatable raft. Fishing was perfect for the kids as there are a ton of smaller fish that hover the dock allowing for an easy catch for the kiddos.
Definitely looking forward to staying again.

We stayed at this gem (3 families) as our boys were in a Lacrosse tournament. We really enjoyed our stay and our boys did a lot of fishing. It was perfect and we will definitly go back. The owner was prompt at responding to our questions and we saved $400 per family by staying here as opposed to staying at an overpriced hotel. The boys created memories and the place had everything that we needed. Thank You!

It’s a super cute property with a lovely lake view, well equipped kitchen, and convenient location. The hosts were very communicative. However, it is truly rustic. There’s very little hot water, and we spotted mouse droppings inside at a couple points. The waterfront is also fairly murky and not great for swimming.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but be prepared for more of a rustic cabin experience.

Awesome spot, right on the lake with the charm of an old school cottage. And Dave is a responsive host who quickly responded to any questions/asks we had. Our family had a wonderful getaway!

My family (myself, husband and 18 month old and dog) stayed at Dave and Karen’s cottage in July 2023. It was just as advertised. Great communication with the host, easy check in and really enjoyed the cottage and property for the weekend. We lucked out and got the most vibrant sunset and though it rained a little, we had some nice weather too. The shallow water was perfect for my son. We would definitely stay here again in the future. Thanks again Dave and Karen!

Dave was very communicative, welcoming and friendly. The deck off the back had a beautiful view. We spent little to no time inside even sitting out under the umbrella during the little rain we had. Can walk/swim out forever before it gets deep enough to be over your head, beach area was lovely. Cottage was clean, with a new fridge and everything needed to cook & BBQ. Even a lovely fire pit with wood supplied.
Highly recommend for family and/or a girls weekend.

We had a great time. Nice to not have to stay an entire week. Old school cottage but had the essentials and enough space. Nice area with the fire pit right on the lake with beautiful sunsets. Nice BBQ.

Thank you

Awesome for families
Fantastic hosts and awesome space for families. The water is shallow (knee deep at the end of the dock, don’t dive!) and perfect for kiddos to play in.
The deck is awesome for activities and for group meals, and the view is magnificent at any time of the day.
The cottage is well stocked with the basics: the two double rooms and bunk room are great; the extra room is great if you bring an air mattress. Guests are required to bring their own linens and towels which is clearly communicated by the hosts ahead of time. The AC unit is a nice perk!
Highly recommend Old School Cottage!

Caesarea for the Win
This part of Lake Scugog is the best for swimming, fishing, and wading. The water is always warm and the view is spectacular. My partner, our two teenage daughters, and our 2 yo Aussie Shephard had a great time. The yard is private to both neighbors and the road is not busy with traffic. The nights and mornings are very quiet and peaceful here. The deck spans almost the whole back of the cottage with amazing sunsets and easy access barefoot into the water; the lake bottom has no sharp rocks and is soft underfoot. It is perfect for very small children and pets, or adults that are afraid of swimming in large bodies of water (no drop-off, no weeds, no tides, and you can walk out 30 ft and still touch the bottom). The cottage itself is well-equipped with supplies, but bring your own bbq utensils and bedding. The beds were comfy, but a little snug (I am used to a king size bed and we shared a double).
This was a home away from home vacation spot and we all loved it. We cooked meals instead of going out, but ordered some take out for dinner one night we were there and it was cheap! We rented a pontoon from across the lake at Scugog Island Marina (pricey, but worth it!) There is not a lot of motorized boat traffic on the lake. We mostly saw canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and sailboats. The lake water is consistently clean on the east side whereas the Port Perry side has poor water quality.
Nearby is a supermarket which is within walking distance and there is an LCBO less than 5 mins away by car. The hosts are good - it was a seamless check-in and we were in contact at check-in by phone (we arrived an hour late!).
Another pleasant and rare thing, was that we were able to rent the cottage for four days/three nights. This was especially great as it fit our family summer schedule and gave us some much needed time together that was the perfect length of stay for everyone.
Would highly recommend to families, avid bass fisherman, couples, or a friends getaway.

Pleasantly surprised
This is definitely an old school cottage but the pics don’t give it any justice. It was a nice place to be with family. It was clean and well equipped. The view of the lake was so beautiful especially the sunsets. The grounds was large and private allowing the dog to roam without a leash. I do recommend bringing your own water toys as there is none. The beds were very comfortable and the family slept well. The lake is very shallow but swimming was very enjoyable and the kids caught some bass off the dock. My only recommendation is to not walk on deck barefoot as we had some splinters. Besides that so worth it for the price. Will definitely return!
