About this cottage rental
The Old Cook House is an ex-army property which has been renovated over the years to provide living accommodation.. 1 step to entrance.
All on the Ground Floor:
Living room: Smart TV
Kitchen/dining room: Induction Hob, Electric Oven, Fridge/Freezer, Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Microwave
Bedroom 1: Kingsize (5ft) Bed, Freeview TV
Bedroom 2: 2 x Single (3ft) Beds
Bathroom: Bath With Shower Over, Toilet. Electric heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Highchair. Boot room for wet weather clothing. Large fenced enclosed garden area with seating. Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking.. The Old Cook House is a detached bungalow set in the grounds of the owners’ smallholding in Winchester. This ground-floor property offers peaceful accommodation for guests wanting to explore this rural location, but also within easy reach of the coast.
The Old Cook House boasts a king-size bedroom, and a twin bedroom also offers a well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom with an L-shaped bath and shower, as well as a living area complete with a feature fireplace (for ornamental purposes only), and a Smart TV. There is also the benefit of a boot room for when you need to dry off your dog. Outside, there is an enclosed garden with a private seating area where you can relax and take in the surroundings.
The property is set in a quiet location with walks directly from the property and a recreation ground with plenty of equipment for young children, a football pitch and a tennis court. In the opposite direction there are walks with views of Winchester Cathedral and the local supermarket is just a 10-minute walk away. Historic Winchester has various museums including The Great Hall with the Round Table. Marwell Zoo and Winchester Science Centre with Planetarium are within a 15-minute drive. Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas Market is very popular with its bustling atmosphere. The Watercress Line and Hinton Ampner Gardens are within a 30-minute drive. Jane Austin’s House and Gilbert White’s House and Gardens, Peppa Pig World and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard are within a 40-minute drive. Also within easy reach of the beautiful Exbury Gardens from spring to autumn. There are two golf courses within 2 miles and one golf course within walking distance.
During the First World War, the village was used by the army which had an extensive veterinary hospital for horses. After the war the camps were split up into agricultural small holdings and the army huts were used as dwellings; part of this cottage was the army cookhouse, hence the name. There were many huts here in the 1960’s however The Old Cook House is the only remaining army hut in the area.
