Location
This spacious holiday home in Grasmere takes a prime location for walking in the Lake District, relaxing with the scenery or simply experiencing the unique history of this picturesque Lake District village. Grasmere village, alongside a small lake of the same name, is located right at the centre of the Lake District. Surrounded by famous Lakeland Fells such as the Fairfield Horseshoe, Silver How, Helm Crag and Loughrigg, it's no surprise that the village is a popular self-catering base for walking in the Lake District. You may also have heard of Grasmere's strong historic connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived only a stone's throw from Grey Crag Barn at Dove Cottage - part of the Wordsworth Museum - and was inspired by the area's breathtaking scenery.
You'll find other artistic inspiration in the village centre. Several art galleries display the work of local watercolour painters, such as the renowned Heaton Cooper Studio. With tea rooms, traditional Lakeland pubs and delightful local shops to break up the day, you'll enjoy no end of lazy hours exploring the village centre. For dining out, you are only a ten minute walk from the Michelin Starred Forest Side Hotel or try the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room. There are also many excellent country pubs in the surrounding area. Self-catering accommodation in Grasmere provides a great starting point for exploring many of the Lake District's highlights. The A591 leads to serene Rydal Water and Ambleside, then on to the shores of Lake Windermere. Heading north, it takes you to Derwent Water and Keswick. The Langdale Valley, Hawkshead village and Coniston water are all within easy reach.

Very pleasant and spacious barn and exceptionally well equipped. Lovely and clean, and in a great location close to all the village amenities and several historic properties, as well as to some wonderful walks. A particular feature is the open plan lounge which has skylights that make it feel very light even on dull days - and the badger feeding was great fun! The only slight snag was the parking as it is a real squeeze to get two cars into the garage. The large layby on the main road was a good option, but tended to get full quite quickly.

We loved spending our Christmas there. Each morning we were greeted by a wonderful view of fells from the living room and bedroom. The property was lovely, clean, spacious, comfortable, had mod cons, very well stocked, and best of all a fire you could snuggle up to. Our host kept good communication, and kindly decorated a Christmas tree for us. Would love to return

We had the pleasure of staying a week at this stunning property in August. The location is excellent, with a gentle 10 minutes stroll to the centre of the village. The barn is a great place to relax after a day walking in the area. Too many superb features to mention, but the view from the patio in the main room is picturesque and offers stunning views of the village, lake and Helm Crag!
Michael the host, also kept in touch with regular communication and was very flexible with the arrival timings.
We will definitely return!

This is a gorgeous property, well situated for the facilities of Grasmere.
It is well kitted out, spacious and comfortable. The garage comfortably fitted a large car with roof-box, which was handy. The badgers were friendly and we had a really lovely week.

We had a brilliant week in this beautiful, clean and very well equipped property. Treated to badgers every night. Beautiful walks right from the doorstep. And lots of lovely places within a short drive. A real bonus is having parking which can be tricky in the Lakes. We can recommend without hesitation

Fabulous break; we’ve had sun and snow! Badgers and red squirrels coming right up to the house, and a wonderful array of birds including a pair of pheasants that stayed all day. Absolutely beautiful house in an amazing place. We loved it, thanks Mike for a great stay.

Grasmere delight
Wonderful property in a great location. The property had absolutely everything and more you would need for a comfortable stay with many added extras. The owners go above and beyond to provide you with all home comforts and added extras.
Beautiful view at the front over the hills and the back garden provided a lovely place to sit and relax with a cup of tea or glass of wine. Wildlife abundant including badgers red squirrel baby deers and birds.
Communication excellent with owners added extra early check in and late check out.
Beautifully presented and received lovely welcome gift of wine and local biscuits.
Plenty of walks from front door. Maps and books provided.
Would definitely stay again.

Amazing house, superb location, 5*
We’ve just spent a wonderful few days having a relaxing break at Grey Crag Barn. It has a lovely location just a short walk to the centre of the village where there is a wide choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs.
The barn is very well appointed and comfortable with amazing views from the upside down living room and bedrooms. It’s surrounded by beautiful countryside and we managed several walks straight from the front door.
The highlight was the lovely garden where we were lucky enough to to see red squirrels and in the evening a badger came right up to the patio door.
The extra touches, leaving a welcome tray with wine and providing locally made toiletries were very much appreciated. Very good communication with the host. I can’t recommend this property enough, we’re already planning another stay. Can’t wait to return.
