Downstairs you'll find a large sunroom overlooking the lake.
Enjoy the coffee bar in the morning while watching the sun come up over the water. Or relax on the couch and watch the gas fireplace!
Upstairs you'll find 80 year old wooden shiplap on the walls and some of the doors we were able to save when we renovated.

The deck on the front of the house is large and comes with a table and chairs. We welcome you to use the grill.
Firepit - bring your own wood.
The dock is private, feel free to watch the sunset or hang out down there.
4 kayaks and adult size life vests are down at the water for you to use.
----------OTHER THINGS TO NOTE----------
PARKING - 2 cars comfortably, 4 can be packed in super tight in summer. In winter months, best to plan on 3 maximum.
STAIRS TO THE WATER - It is a long and steep walk to get down to the water (approximately 4 stories of elevation change).
GETTING INTO THE HOUSE - You have to walk down a set of stairs to get into the house. The stairs from the 1st floor to the second floor are steep. We do not recommend this home to anyone with mobility concerns.
KAYAKS - Available May 15 - Sept 15
4 kayaks + adult size life jackets are down at the dock for you to use.
AC - Window Units installed May 15 - Sept 15
WINDOWS - All windows have cranks removed and locks installed. Most are nearly impossible to shut again once they are opened. It is against house rules to open the windows!!
TRAIN - Comes by once or twice a day, rarely on the horn, usually about 6 cars long. Personally we love watching it go by. We've never noticed it go by outside the window of 6am - 6pm but obviously have no control over their schedule.
CROOKED/SLOPED FLOORS - The house is 110 years old, it is far from straight. If you're looking for a new fancy place, this isn't it.
BUGS - Depending on time of day and year, there are mosquitos, black flies, spiders, etc. Not excessive but don’t be surprised if you see some bugs here. Not a bad idea to bring bug spray.
GRILL/DECK/DOCK - Our cleaners do not check or clean the Grill/Deck/Dock. Please clean up after yourself.

First and foremost, the hosts were amazing and the view was spectacular. I cannot say enough good things about the host. He was very responsive and very attentive. My stepson had a great time and caught some pretty decent fish on the lake. We found dirty pans in the oven from the previous renters that the cleaning crew did not catch. That aside, our only concern was some safety issues with the house. All of the floors are uneven. The refrigerator doors and the guest bath door will not stay open due to the sloping of the house. In the kitchen, you start going downhill and then at the end you are walking uphill.

We had a blast! Location and views are insane! Location is also super close to Jay Peak (which was also fun with kids) but also the layout of the house is perfect for families. Highly recommend and Ryan was very responsive. Looking forward to our next visit!

This was a great property, close to downtown Newport but felt very removed with an amazing view of the lake. The house was clean and welcoming, and Ryan made the reservation and check in process very easy. The house has lots of stairs, both inside and to get down to the lake, which wasn't ideal for our youngest children, but we made it work. Thanks for a lovely and memorable stay!

Clean and comfortable for all.

I loved the lake and the kayaks and the view and the fishing! It wasn't until I was leaving that I noticed all the chargers in each of the rooms which my sons and friends were very happy with. All the condiments and supplies needed for a most enjoyable stay! Great exercise on the stairs to the dock!

Lovely house with a gorgeous view of the lake via large picture windows and quick access via a steep flight of stairs. Ryan was very responsive to my questions and up front about lake access, making sure it was going to work for us. If you've got mobility or balance issues, navigating the stairs in the house and down to the lake will be an issue! It wasn't an issue for my friends and I, so this was a great stay that Ryan made better by having kayaks available on the dock! The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and cutlery, and the bathroom was well stocked with toiletries. Bedrooms were a good size with comfortable beds. Note there is only one a/c window unit for each floor, so it did get muggy upstairs - there were ceiling and floor fans to help circulate cooler air and make it comfortable for us. Overall, my friends and I had a blast - Thanks Ryan!!

Sitting in a rocking chair with your morning coffee while looking at the lake is the perfect way to start the day. We spent time at the lake dock swimming and reading.. Visited Jay Peak, Newport and rented a boat to explore the lake. The dining table easily fit 7 of us for dinner and games.
We enjoyed our stay and time to reconnect with family.

We had a great few days at the Scenic Retreat in Newport, VT. Ryan was beyond helpful and responsive to any and all requests. Our favorite things were spending time on the dock kayaking and swimming or just floating, nights at the fire pit and family dinners around the large dining table. Thank you, Ryan, for sharing this awesome property with us!

We were a multi-generational family spending time at this property. It is an older camp home so do not expect a dishwasher or bright lighting and the listing is honest about stairs to navigate each level. It is a beautiful view from the rocking chairs and dining room table, next level below with table and grill, lawn down another level with fire pit and wood provided, down another level to tracks (train passed by 1 morning we were there), and another set of stairs to the dock. We were able to swim off the dock that has some seating and a sit-on Kayak.
We spent a beautiful summer day at Prouty Beach and also visited Coventry Falls alpaca farm, about a15 minute drive.
Owners were available, information provided clearly and timely, additional toiletries, coffee/teas, charging cords and condiments well stocked to make it an easy stay. There are also new washing machines in house.
Sunsets were beautiful-a loon made a regular visit. It is a beautiful setting to spend some time enjoying a lake view!

Amazing view!
Great stay. Internet worked perfectly as I worked from there for a day. AC worked great in 90 degree weather! The lake was beautiful and the dock and chairs were nice by the water to sit and relax. The hosts were very quick in responding to any questions. Would definitely stay again!

A real home away from home!
This beautiful home was just perfect for our family! The lake was so amazing, we could have stayed there forever! They provided everything we could have needed. The house is just a quick few minutes drive to town, to get food or whatever other shopping you might have to do. There is an indoor waterpark at Jay Peak not even 30 minutes away. We stayed here as a family of 6 with our four small kids age 2-9, (who had the time of their lives!). Thank you so much for sharing this magical place, Ryan and Taylor! Wonderful and helpful hosts too!

The view is beautiful. The house is very clean. We loved the little touches like a in case you forgot basket, coffee bar and little snacks.Ryan was great to work with. He answered any questions I had with an immediate response and when we asked to extend our stay he made it so easy. It was a little cold to spend anytime outside but the view was so spectacular that there was no need to.
