About this cottage rental
“Footnote” is an ideal quintessential 1920’s Maine cottage located on Orr’s Island. presenting stunning ocean views and breathtaking sunsets. Orr’s Island is a gem of Harpswell, one of the most beautiful , quaint towns along the Maine coast. The feeling upon entering the cottage will leave you feeling the true tranquility you’re searching for! Plan to relax and enjoy the spectacular views from the cottage and of course its glorious deck!
The kitchen and bathroom have been carefully renovated and fully updated while maintaining the true charm of the cottage. You will enter through the screened in porch, which is a perfect extra spot to relax in ! The cottage sleeps 4, as it features 2 inviting bedrooms. One with a queen size bed, with a step down as you enter the cottage (the only step inside the cottage !) while the other conveniently has 2 twin beds. You’ll enjoy a comfortable living room, with a large screen TV, (for your streaming purposes) as well as a small sitting/reading nook, also with a two-seater couch. Perfect for curling up with a good book !
The new, fully equipped kitchen will have everything you need for a comfortable stay including all new appliances. From the kitchen, you have access to the inviting deck to enjoy the impressive views as well as the lovely patio furniture put in place. This cottage is the perfect balance of well maintained beauty from the past, and the modernization of today.
There’s also a trail alongside of the property leading down to the rocky/sandy shoreline. This trail is not everyone, as the terrain is a bit steep, but many love to explore, and end up at the shore ! Parking for the cottage is marked, and you will then venture down a wooden stairway to reach the cottage. The only amenity you will not find here is a washer or dryer. (Who wants to do laundry on vacation ??!!) “Footnote” is also accompanied by a larger home, called “Epilogue” on the premises which sleeps a total of 6 people, so if you’re looking for a larger rental for family, this is perfect for you, as you are able to rent them together if so desired. If you’re interested in both, please contact the manager with your questions.
“Footnote” is located close to Brunswick, where you will find grocery stores, restaurants and shopping. Brunswick is also home of Bowdoin College, Maine State Music Theater, as well as museums to explore. On Orr’s Island , it’s just a short hop to seafood restaurants , kayak rentals, trails, mini beaches, and even a candy and ice cream shop ! You are only a short distance from Freeport, (home of L.L. Bean, and many outlet shops), Portland, Bath, Boothbay, Bar Harbor ~ many enjoyable day trips to be had !

We were in the area to visit friends and found this wonderful bay view property. The cottage was rustic and cozy which really gave us a great vibe for our Maine sea coast experience. The beds were super comfortable and everything in the house was neat and tidy. Our host, Sheri, was super responsive. We would definitely return in the future.

We loved the views - at least 4 different spots to sit in and read and appreciate the views. Very comfortable

Cute little cottage with a beautiful view of the sunset from the deck! Very nice kitchen, and the living room furniture has been updated from the photos, including a slightly larger dining table, which was great for dinner and family games; the sleigh bed in the screened-in porch was also updated with outdoor, all-weather cushions, making it a comfy seating area, or a nice place to curl up with a book. This cottage comes with lots of character, which makes it charming but perhaps not the best choice for those with mobility or balance issues, due to some uneven floors as well as the path down to the entrance, but these are no trouble at all for able-bodied individuals. The path down to the shore is only for the fit, but if that's you, it's great for beachcombing; we only ever saw one other individual, and the kids found more sea glass there than elsewhere. Nearby, we love to watch the waves crash against the rocks at Giant's Staircase, and the kids must stop in at Island Candy Company for ice cream - they even have a lovely garden you can stroll through or sit in while you enjoy your ice cream! Sheri, our host, was beyond helpful and pleasant - not only with great communication before the trip, but even afterwards, when I accidentally left something behind, and she was gracious enough to help track it down and send it back to me.

We arrived at the golden hour when the sun was heading for the horizon and the house looked like a place I wanted to live in forever. It was a good size for 4. The kitchen was a little tight if you want to prepare elaborate meals, but luckily we did not, and all the utensils we needed were available, except maybe a slotted spoon. The temperature was comfortable in late summer. The view from the deck was awesome and the other porch was a great place to read. Thanks for sharing your lovely cottage!

We enjoyed our stay at Footnote cottage. It was very clean and comfortable, and the décor was even nicer than the photos. We enjoyed being able to walk down to the water, although the trail was a bit more challenging than we had expected. Highly recommended overall.

We loved staying in this cozy, beachy, bright cottage. Our favorite thing was sitting on the porch, drinking a glass of wine and watching the sunset over the bay.

Everything you need. Nice kitchen appliances if you like to cook. Bring K-Kups with you if you want coffee on arrival. Lots of birds ..beautiful sunsets. Nice Main bedroom. Nice warm shower. Did NOT like Roku for viewing local news at night. Could be the operator. Overall ... good location for day trips and enjoying the views.

My stay was so spectacular that I lost track of days and wasn"t aware that check out day had already come so didn't succeed in getting the dishes loaded in the dishwasher.
One tiny complaint. Several guests as well as myself tripped over the sudden step down into the bedroom. Perhaps put up a rail?

We loved this place. It feels like home as soon as you enter with numerous small touches that make all the difference. We found there was plenty of room and comfortable seating. The kitchen is thoughtfully planned and well appointed. The beds are comfortable with water views from the bedrooms (and from the living room and kitchen). The deck is large and a great spot for morning yoga overlooking the water. The house is exceptionally clean and it is a very quiet location. From here, it is easy to explore all that the islands and peninsula have to offer while still having fairly quick access to Brunswick and a little further in either direction Portland, Rockland, Boothbay and Camden. Definitely recommend.

A wonderful place for a small family to experience the Maine coast. This rustic cottage has been fabulously remodeled and is much more spacious than its actual square footage. Highly recommend.

Picture Perfect
We loved everything about this charming property. The house is comfortable and stocked with everything needed to make our stay enjoyable. Most of our time was spent on the deck out back taking in the views and soaking up the sunshine. We hope to return soon!

Wonderful week
We wanted a place with water views off the beaten path. We found it! Love Orr’s Island and will be back. Place was well equipped and very clean. Overall great experience - didn’t realize there was no AC, but it was only an issue in the afternoon and when we checked-in (all windows were closed and no fans going). fans cooled down the place pretty well, but it was still on the warmer side mid-afternoon inside.

Tranquility
We had such a fine time on Orrs Island. While we were in great proximity of many activities (kayaking, swimming, tide pooling), we could have easily spent the entire time at ‘Footnote’. Together we enjoyed time playing board games, completing a puzzle, reading, and admiring the dazzling sunsets. Such a comfortable setting.
