Superbes jardins et bel emplacement

Bon emplacement pour visiter la région si vous disposez d'une voiture. Magnifiques jardins où nous avons vu des iguanes, lézards Jesus-Christ, grenouilles et des aras verts. Le lac à caimans est reellement impressionnant! Le soir nous avons fait une randonnée guidée dans la jungle environnante et nous avons vu des grenouilles, un opposum, un serpent, une tarentule, un iguane, un basilic, et plein d'insectes. C'était génial! Le restaurant est très bon et les cocktails sont delicieux. Nous étions proches de la 2eme piscine qui était très agréable. Enfin, tous les membres du personnel étaient vraiment très gentils.

Les chambres auraient besoin d'être modernisées, néanmoins il était très agréable de disposer de l'air conditionné.

Unterkunft liegt inmitten vom Regenwald mit vielen Tieren, Froschteich direkt beim Restaurant

Great place to stay, but proactive comma was missing

Laundry service does not exist anymore (despite what’s mentioned on the site), which is annoying if you planned to do your laundry mid of your holiday 😕. Next to that the electricity was off all day due to maintenance, which again could (should?) have been mentioned as we booked just a day before.

Lovely pools and food at night. There are incredible poison dart frogs on site that the staff are happy to show you and when you hear the howler monkeys, follow the howls. We saw so many of there beautiful faces from the trails. The birding is also great here!

Very good

We did not expect much from this accommodation but it was a pleasant surprice. The room was basic but ok for a short stay and it was clean. The pool was nice, breakfast was ok (the staff was very kind and making sure our kids were happy). And we saw quite a lot of nice frogs at the property.

Okay stay for sarapiqui

Staff was super friendly. Nice pools, nice garden and good food.

The room was quite small en no fridge (probably we knew this before). We had no sun or view on the terrace.

Very good

A nice lodge with very spacious but scarcely furnished rooms. The walking trails are nice and give you a first glimpse into a tropical forest. The food in the restaurant was good. We chose the hotel for its proximity to La Selva Research Station. The location is pleasant and quiet. We would stay here again.

Great stay

This was a beautiful lodge in the grounds of Ara Ambigua. It was very quiet. The restaurant and bar area was great. The staff were very friendly

Birds galore

Everything about this place is wonderful.

Walls too thin between rooms and can hear the noise coming from the other side... you hope to have quiet neighbors with no kids !!!!

no room service or pool service which would be nice but for price paid it’s great. they let us take our smoothies to to the pool :)

Very nice place, within the nature. The restaurant terrace looks over a frog pond. Many birds fly around in the morning, frogs start to sing in the evening. you can see plenty of them if you look closely.

Free water dispenser in the common area

We checked into the room and there was no toilet paper at all, so we had to go back to the reception. In general the bathroom was very old (the shower was spraying a lot and partially flooding the bathroom. The windows have not nets against bugs and mosqitos, so we got some more visitors. The coffee capsules were missing (no need for a coffee maker then). Wifi only in the common area and not so powerful. Poweroutlets only in front of the gift shop, but only 10% are working and at 9 pm we got kicked out, because they closed this area. Like half an hour later we basically left sitting in the complete dark when they simply turned off all lights in the rest of the common area - no announcement made. Seeing then a security guy with a gun didn't gave us much confidence in the area around. Food complete average, nothing special, no special tastes. Pool areas small and older. Overall more pretending than the advertised higher middle class.

Great place for birds and relaxing around pool. Enjoyed all the activities in the area .

Breakfast very good buffet style. Dinner was very good also. Rooms were spacious and had a nice back porch. Shower was great with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Lots of beautiful birds around the lodge. The two swimming pools are great and very clean. Very nice lodge with lots to do in arrea.

We stayed 3 nights and things were great.

Very good

The Ara Ambigua Lodge is located about 2km outside of the Puerto Viejo village, so it's quite private and remote without being inaccessible. They have quite an amazing range of facilities and it's actually structured like a holiday resort, with separate bungalows that were all incredibly roomy. It doesn't look tacky though, especially because the area is covered in beautiful vegetation. Everything also was wheelchair accessible. There's a great restaurant with a diverse range of food options (portions are massive, so I'd advise sharing) that looks out on a garden where food is left out for birds. We managed to see a rare breed of toucan when having lunch. There's also a pool and an accessible trail around the place to catch a glimpse of nature and wildlife. Best of all were the helpful staff, who all spoke English and helped us out with all our requests.

The hotel looks a little run-down (faded colours and signs that are falling apart, old equipment like the AC and TV) and even though it's cleaned daily some areas of the room remain a little grimey. The detergent used on the towels smells a little strange. No deal-breakers though, and it does lend the place a rustic charm. More annoying: the WiFi signal didn't reach up to our room.

- very nice gardens, pool, wildlife and property in general - nice restaurant with reasonable prices, good choice of meals, good to spend time outside the room use WiFi and drink a coffee - friendly and helpful staff - convenient location for activities

- the room was worn out and not very nice to spend time there except for sleeping (bed was good) - no fridge, no safe, no WiFi in the room - some bugs, but this is difficult to avoid in this climate

Great place for a pet-friendly, medium-budget weekend of relaxation.

Food was good, personnel friendly. Very clean and well kept. Absolutely pet friendly. The frog pond and bird feeding area by the restaurant is beautiful with lots of birds to see. Got an AMAZING massage at the spa.

I would have liked to have fresh fruit for breakfast. This area is famous for its top quality fruit and yet there was none of it in the buffet. Rooms are ample and very clean, but they could be even better with details to make them more cozy.
