About this house rental
Hummingbird Beach Hideaway sits on a 10 acre estate located on the south shore of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The estate property features over 500 feet of beach frontage on a mile of undeveloped, uninhabited, & usually deserted sandy beach. The main Villa of the five-building compound has been newly refurbished into an intimate Beachfront Boutique Hotel, the second floor of which features six beautifully finished & individually decorated residences, four 1bdrm Suites & two Studios.
The space
This listing is for the Entire Property, ie the entire facility of Hummingbird Beach Hideaway (HBH), generally rented for a Wedding or Family Reunion or a Management Retreat or a Conference or Training or another special event. So by renting the entire facility, you & your party have exclusive use of the six residences in the Villa Building, as well as the flexibility to schedule or coordinate your own use of the Veranda, the Back-beach areas, and the lawn areas at HBH for your event(s).
The six residences on the second floor of the Villa Building at Hummingbird Beach Hideaway (HBH) are fully furnished & individually decorated in tropical condo style. The four one-bedroom executive suites & two studios all feature vaulted beamed ceilings & tile floors, with interconnecting double doors through to adjacent rooms which are normally locked but when opened offer a wonderfully spacious & homey flow for family or special events. Each residence is air-conditioned and includes a kitchen area & spacious private bath. Additionally, the one-bedroom executive suites have a spacious sitting area with a private balcony and in the kitchen an Island counter with bar-stool seating, stainless appliances including a full-size range & oven, a refrigerator w/ icemaker, and an in-suite washer/dryer.
Guest access
Our Veranda runs all along the Oceanside of the ground floor of the Villa and is a spacious, inviting and relaxing 1,600+ sq foot shaded & breezy gathering space. The Veranda is Oceanside but elevated 30 feet above sea level, providing a magnificent view of the ocean horizon and the beach from point to point on the bay. The Veranda offers a unique venue for a wedding ceremony, reception, meeting or presentation, dinner party or BBQ cookout, or just cocktails & conversation.

>>>>>> IMPORTANT POLICY NOTICE RE ELECTRICITY Hummingbird Beach Hideaway (HBH) – SURCHARGE for EXCESS ELECTRICAL USE
The Electric Utility cost in the USVI is $0.42/kWh a rate recognized as the highest in the USA, on average nearly three times the per kWh electricity cost in the continental US. This is primarily due to the fact that the USVI Utility Corp. (aka WAPA) still imports fuel oil & natural gas to generate nearly all of its electricity. In defense of the environment & to facilitate the management of electricity usage, each HBH residence (Suite or Studio) is equipped with a separate individual Electric Utility Meter from WAPA.
The maximum Electrical Usage that HBH has already budgeted into the nightly rate for all six apartments together is 170 kWh/day, which is normally sufficient to prevent any Surcharge for Excess Electrical Usage, but does anticipate you will be a bit conscientious of your electrical consumption. You are encouraged to BE SURE TO TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONER (the single biggest driver of electrical usage) when you leave your room for any length of time. Or even better, turn-off you’re A/C and leave your windows open to enjoy the sounds of the ocean & birds, and then make greater use of the electric fans in your residence, as they consume very little electricity. You can always come downstairs to relax in the cool shade & trade-wind breezes on the Veranda, lounging in the hammock or on a chaise lounge facing the sea.
In fact, most guests find that only turning the A/C on at the end of the day to cool the room a bit before going to bed is all that’s required. Here at HBH we are far from town & close to the ocean, so the nights are usually comfortably cool. As you actually retire, turning off the A/C after you’ve cooled your room and then opening the windows and turning on the fans will allow you to remain comfortable & enjoy the quietude and sound of the waves for a wonderful night's rest.
In support of your Conscientious Electrical Usage Conservation, you will be sent a text message with a picture of the electrical meters for each of the six residences when you move in and which you may check again anytime. [Each meter is on the NE corner of the building & the display continually updates the cumulative kWh number] Another picture of the Electrical Meters will be made during your Check-out to make a calculation of your Electrical Usage during your stay, and any Surcharge for Excess Electrical Usage that is due may be paid at check-out or could be charged against your pre-authorized deposit with AirBnB. Thank You in advance for your understanding & support of energy management at HBH.
