About this cottage rental
Enjoy the beautiful colors of fall foliage from a classic Maine lakefront cottage. You'll enjoy loons on Upper Range Pond (a medium-sized lake), jumping off our private dock and float into beautiful clear water and using our 2 kayaks and canoe. Have dinner on the screened-in porch or make s'mores in the fire pit on the sandy beach. Wonderfully quiet, private location only 40 minutes away from Portland.
We're committed to sustainability with eco-friendly cleaning products and lighting.
THE SPACE
-- In addition to three bedrooms, there is a private loft with queen bed that's accessed through one of the bunk bedrooms. It's suitable for agile people because one needs to climb a sturdy ladder to get up to it. There is also a roll-away bed (for a child) available.
-- There are two heat sources in the main living area: a beautiful stone fireplace and a propane furnace which pumps hot air through floor grates. Please stay off the grates when furnace is on because they can get hot!
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
-- Mid June-Labor Day: we rent Saturday to Saturday, check in 3pm (lockbox), check out 10am.
-- Outdoor propane grill is great for cookouts.
-- We supply 4 gallons of drinking water via a water cooler with additional water available nearby. The tap water is fine to bathe with, cook with (boiled) and wash dishes with. It comes from a dug well next to the cottage, but to be extra safe we ask guests not to drink water from the faucets.
-- A few stone steps lead from cottage to beach. The path is lit at night but there is also a short path through the woods.
-- The house faces west. It is a "house of light" and the sunsets are beautiful.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
-- We have two kayaks and a two person canoe. Swim/use watercraft at your own risk and please wear a life jacket on kayaks/canoe. Life jackets available for kids and adults.
-- Personal watercraft (jet skis) not allowed on Upper Range Pond.
-- Please drive slowly down the road. The camp road is in good shape and driving slow helps keep it that way.
-- No smoking indoors or outdoors.

A real Maine camp stay on a very nice lake. The camp had all we needed and the grandkids spent a lot of time in the water. Nice quiet relaxing week.

Stayed here in May 2024 for a long weekend. This is a clean, well-equipped, rustic "cabin in the woods" on the edge of Upper Range Pond. The cabin feels private in the midst of the trees and has a clear western view of the lake from the porch. There is a generous open area right by the water for gathering (with a fire pit), and the dock was also large enough for my spouse and I to share coffee on early mornings or watch the sun go down. We were serenaded by loons throughout the day and night and were able to also watch eagles and ospreys pass over. During the summer there are more power boats on the lake, but was quiet while we were there.
There is everything you need inside the cabin for a comfortable stay of several days. There is one queen bed on the first floor and another in the loft; the other beds are bunks. It was cool at night when we stayed but the heating system did the trick.
We used the two kayaks; Upper Range is not that big and it was easy to kayak around. A channel connects to Middle Range Pond.
I used the wireless during my stay for doing some work and had no problem either video conferencing or streaming video on my devices.
While the cabin location is on a small gravel one lane road with only about 8 houses on it, it is near to amenities. The nearest supermarket is only about 15 minutes away so and Nonesuch Brewery just opened a brew pub about 5 minutes drive on Middle Range Pond. Portland is about 35-40 minutes away.

Awesome cabin, private setting, and a nice dock for our boat. Kitchen is appointed with everything we needed. The view of the lake is amazing at sunset. We enjoyed our stay, I only wished we could have extended it.
This was our second year and I’d highly recommend.

Everything about this place is perfect. It’s exactly as listed here and has everything you need. Very clean and comfortable. You won’t want to see the rest of Maine.

Cozy and secluded. Nice place for a get-away

I have stayed in the area before on Middle Range Pond and am very familiar with both Middle Range and Upper Range ponds. Both are great for fishing and are relatively quiet compared to some of the more developed ponds and lakes in the area. The house is comfortable and has a great Maine cabin feel with a wonderful view of sunsets. The docks is nice and we greatly appreciated the use of the two kayaks and the canoe. Hope to stay there again.

We had an amazing weekend. House is nicely set up and can’t beat the view. Weather wasn’t great but that didn’t ruin our fun. Highly recommend this place!

Reminded me of the movie, "On Golden Pond". A rustic but comfortable cabin right on a lake. Would definitely go back. When questions arose Gail the owner was super to communicate with.

I give Gail 5 stars. If you're a family with children it's perfect, but if you're looking for some quiet time you're not going to find it here. Property owners on the other side of the pond light up their properties like a Christmas display and and they either don't know or don't care how their loud voices carry across the water. These are things that Gail has no control over, but as I said if you're a family with children..... perfect!

It was my first trip to Maine and this property was all we were hoping for. Waking up with coffee on the dock each morning to beautiful sunsets each night by the fire. Loved the sound of the loons. We kayaked, canoed and swam in the water and found so many different mushrooms on the property! Close enough to do rockhounding in White Mountains & visit lighthouses & breweries in Portland. The cabin had all our needs and was cozy & clean. Truly love the place!

We loved our stay on Upper Range Pond! It was so peaceful. The owners were very responsive and helpful. The cottage was well appointed and we had everything we needed right there. Lakeside fire pit and s’mores at night. Large screened in porch. Glorious sunsets. Swimming and paddle boarding during the day. Loons swam right up to the dock to say hi. Lovely property in a perfect setting. Thank you, Gail!

This is a very nice property with a lovely waterfront for swimming and campfires. We all (us, our kids, grandkids and other adults) really enjoyed our stay. We were there at a very warm time so the fishing was poor, but we got the impression this was an exception to normal. We kayaked and paddleboarded and had a great time.

We stayed here for a week in July and had the best time! The house had plenty of room for our family of 4. The kids slept in the bunk room and in the loft. The view out the windows onto the lake is just spectacular, and we spent lots of time on the porch just looking out. There’s a great big dining table that was perfect for game nights, and many games are available to choose from. Wifi was great, even on the beach, and we had good cell service (Verizon). Everything we needed was there, from TP and paper towels, to shampoo and laundry detergent. Having linens and towels included is always such a bonus. We had a couple unusually hot days, but there are plenty of fans in the house. Most of our time was spent down by the lake. It honestly seems like this is the nicest property on the lake. Between the beach, the dock, the floating raft, the cove, and the privacy, it is exactly what we look for. The sun hits the dock from late morning until it’s dark out, so we stayed out until after sunset every day. The water is clear, clean, and warm, and probably a little lower than usual due to the lack of rain all summer. There was some boat traffic, moreso on the weekend, but this end of the lake is less populated and quieter. Our kids spent every day swimming and jumping off the floating dock! We also kayaked and canoed every day. The loons were constantly swimming by and were very vocal, and we spotted an eagle a couple of times. The fishing was great, as well! We had lots of catches right off the dock (bass and sunfish). The nearest grocery store is about 15 minutes away, but we only had to make a couple of trips. We got ice cream in Poland at the Log Yard, and spent an evening in Lewiston, which was about a half hour away. Other than that, we had such beautiful weather and just didn’t want to leave the lake! On our way back home to Massachusetts, we stopped at Fort Williams on Cape Elizabeth (took about an hour to get there) and spent the afternoon there. Gorgeous views and a great way to end our week and break up the drive home. Gail was great to work with and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for sharing your home with us, we made some great memories. Only wish the week didn’t go by so fast!
