This property was perfect for our two day jaunt. For two adults, who didn't want to drive far at night for dinners, the location was perfect. It is close to town, Bridal Fall, Dry Falls, and not too far from Secret Falls.

Cozy with so much charm. The location was great. Loved being able to walk across the street to On the Veranda restaurant. Delicious dinner with a killer view! The property was as described, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Highly recommend!

I wish we could've stayed longer. It was a great place. Did not get to spend much time there, as we had a reunion up the hill a bit.

Loved the house! Very nicely kept. A bit of road noise, but a great stay.

Located less than two miles from town, the cabin is also directly across the street from, as a chef what I consider the finest restaurant in Highlands-On the Veranda!

We stayed two nights and enjoyed every moment. It was close to downtown Highlands ( as well as Cashiers and other points of interest). The home was clean and well maintained. The backyard light bulbs were not working, but we had flashlights so we could take our pups outside. We would definitely stay here again (and we were not bothered by restaurant or road noise).

Bedrooms very comfortable, plenty of storage space, excellently appointed kitchen. The photos of the upstairs bedroom do not do it justice! It was beautiful! There is no dining area other than stools at the kitchen bar. The location is 5 minutes drive from town and 10 min to hiking trails.

We had a great stay here with 3 adults and 2 children (ages 3 and 5). The location was great...very close to town. Just know that it is on a MAIN road. Very, very close to the road. It might be better to stay here with adults or older children just because I was nervous about my kids getting out without me knowing and possibly getting into that road. So great, convenient place. Just know you are truly right on a main road with lots of traffic.
Also, very easy, convenient check in and check out!

While listed as pet friendly, there was was only minimal area for our dog to potty. It was all rocks. Close to town.

Our ratings are mixed. Depending on what you are looking for this could be very good or not so good.
Location’s proximity to downtown Highlands & Veranda Restaurant are great. Cottage was clean and cozy place for 2 people. TV’s were limited on traditional channel options and not a lot of guidance provided on how to operate the the TV’s.
You just need to be ok with a Location that is right on a heavily traveled road creating a lot of road noise all day and night making it a challenge to sleep at certain times, and Restaurant workers around 11:30pm to midnight could be quite loud in the parking
lot. As for a pet, not a lot of space to walk your pet. Just need to know that ahead of time.

We truly enjoyed our stay at this home in Highlands It is very conveniently located to everything in this darling town. We particularly liked that we didn’t have to climb steep, one lane roads to get to the house! Coming from flat Florida this was a plus!! We had some confusion about the fact that we were bringing our Havanese with us, but I will know next time to spell it out! Somehow I did not see where I was supposed to note that on our reservation. We loved the restaurant that is right across the street. The view of the river from its back porch dining room is just beautiful!! And the food and service were top notch! We look forward to returning to this house and Highlands in the future.

The place was very dusty, spider webs in kitchen light fixture. Upstairs shower door off hinge. Other than that great location, a little dangerous to get in and out of but set up of house was great.

Wonderful, well-cared for property that has been provisioned to meet absolute guest comfort and enjoyment. Our family thoroughly appreciated our time here as it is only a short distance to top Highlands’ shops and restaurants. It was exactly as expected after viewing the descriptions and communicating with highly responsive hosts. Pleased!

My family and our labrador absolutely fell in love with Author’s Cottage. So much that we can’t wait to come back!! The location from Highlands is perfect! The decor and cleanliness is on point! The seating areas outside the cottage phenomenal and the different potted plants made them even better! So many details the host provided were greatly appreciated and the best part was the upstairs suite!!

Great three night stay. Used to shower and change and it was so close to town and trails that it was perfect. Right on busy road, as advertised, so would not recommend for small children.
The owner asked me to pay for a broken outside screen corner on a window and a “warped” tray that obviously had bent from humidity over a long period of time. I explained that we didn’t do either. Aside from that disappointment it was a great place and well priced.

Very clean and comfortable cottage close to downtown Highlands, hiking and other area attractions. Hiked two days and afterwards enjoyed the Highlands Wine Shoppe and fire pit to wind down before dinner. Highly recommend the Writer’s Cottage.

The family headed back to the Highlands for winter break and found this little jewel available. It’s right across the road from a great restaurant, The Veranda on Mirror Lake. Very convenient to town. It was clean and updated throughout. It’s really just a cozy 4 adult cabin. Only issue was the Nest controls are a bit finicky to use. Truly enjoyed the stay.

We’ve been to Highlands several times before and loved it! First time for us renting a house and it did not disappoint! This home was cozy, charming, clean and close to everything! Very sweet owners checked on us upon arrival and afterwards to see if we needed anything while we were there. The complimentary popcorn, coffee and hot chocolate was such a nice treat! Thank you, we had a great time and would definitely stay here again :)

My husband, daughter, son-in-law, miniature dachshund and I had a 5 Star experience at the Author's cottage for the Christmas parade weekend. The cottage was very clean, beds were comfortable, water was still hot after 4 showers, kitchen fully stocked, fluffy towels and it was beautifully decorated for the holidays.
We love traveling with our fur baby but prefer accommodations where you can't tell a pet has visited. That was the case with the Author's Cottage.

We really enjoyed our stay. With the property having a Franklin Rd address (same as Main St), it was a quick straight shot, 5 mins to town. It was very cute, nicely decorated cabin.

My husband and I, along with our 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels stayed at this precious cabin. It was located where we could easily get to main street, Dry Falls, Glen Falls, Sunset Rock, Reclamations and Whiteside Mountain, all of which were on our must do's while in the Highlands. The home is just the right size for 2 couples with 2 master beds and 2 full bathrooms or grandparents, parents with up to 2 children as the upstairs king bedroom has a twin trundle bed. The home was very clean and did not show signs of previous pet guests. The living room-kitchen areas are combined into one space. The fireplace is a perfect addition to this cozy, mountain home. Andreea and Claudiu were so easy to communicate with and they offered up some great places to grab a lunch or eat out for dinner. Check in and check out could not be easier. We look forward to coming back again. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us!
