This is a fabulous property. Love the common areas and the quality of the snacks/tea offered. Have done a great job overhauling the space but keeping its original soul. Comfortable, well appointed and not at all fussy. Would absolutely return.

We reserved a garden king with fireplace and were placed in a dog friendly king looking at the parking lot. the room smelled like dog urine. No other rooms left for that night but were moved to another alternate room, double no fireplace.
Staff was friendly. The outdoor area/firepit is a nice place to gather and meet others. The Nordic Spa was not working so we could not enjoy that. Restaurant and Bar will open Jan 2025 we were told.

Newly renovated hotel, very comfortable and great location. Plenty of amenities which lead to a wonderful visit to the HIghlands. Will be back for sure.

Disappointed.
The reason for my review:
Beware - they actively overbook the balcony rooms (happened to myself and at least one other group that I am aware of). And as your check in day is within the window of no cancel/refund you will be ushered to a standard room with no refund for the price difference.
Of note: We were offered an available “garden room” as a consolation, but upon opening the door we were taken aback with a strong urine smell.
This headache has required multiple trips to the front desk and now multiple calls to hotels.com customer service all with me still stuck with paying the higher room rate per night.
Other than overbooking:
The rooms do look like the pictures… but the rear of the hotel (which is where the garden and balcony rooms are located) overlook the parking lot and the common areas which provides limited privacy and car hood views unlike the pictures imply.
The staff was nice, but they are obviously working through staff, system, and process hiccups (issues) as a recently opened hotel.

In Highlands for the weekend. Lovely property within walking distance of the Main Street.

We were a group with three rooms staying as part of Trailborn Highland's first 100 guests since opening. We were so impressed with the level of guest service at this property. The staff was eagetrto assist with all of our needs. Can't say enough on this topic. In addition, the rooms were comfortable and inviting, two with great views of the trees, and had great in-room amentities. Trailborn Highlands has a relaxing vibe that successfully combines a modern and rustic feel. A light complimentary selection of breakfast items was an added plus. We will definitely return!

We stayed at Trailborn Highlands this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it! We had no idea that their grand opening was the weekend prior. We booked last minute and were a little concerned because of the reviews online but the pictures looked great and when we arrived, we found out the reviews were prior to new ownership and a full remodel!
The hotel is super cool. The rooms are current with a retro vibe. Every staff member we encountered was very hospitable and helpful. We spoke to many! Christy, who is a manager, was so sweet and helpful. Chris, who is part of the team, works all over the resort and wanted to make sure everything was good with our bikes. As part of staying there they offer very attractive cruiser bikes for riding around town…which we did all day on Saturday. Everyone was asking where we got our bikes. :)
We also spoke with the chef of the future onsite restaurant, Highlands Supper Club. It isn’t open yet so he was giving us insight as to where to eat, as he is all about food!
Another awesome thing is that they have a great area to sit and relax or work, if needed- which includes a fireplace. They offer a continental breakfast with unique goodies that we loved!
There is a beautiful area in the back of the hotel that offers Adirondack style chairs with fire pits. We sat out there both nights. It was incredible!
We are excited to return as we will be staying there again! Thanks to the entire team at Trailborn Highlands for making our visit amazing!

I had a WONDERFUL stay, and can't wait to come back! LOVED the water bottle filling station, the luxe-70s lodge vibe, the staff was incredible, they have a great offerings in the market, my room had a gas fireplace (!!!!), and overall I loved it.
My only two complaints were that the mattress was not comfortable (my aching back woke me up both mornings), and I strongly dislike instant coffee, which was the ONLY coffee option available (in room or otherwise).

Hotel is in a great location close to downtown Highlands, but it needs major renovations. Clerk stated that the hotel will be closing for 6 months for a complete makeover.

Close enough to the town and rooms were fine.

Failed to be advised the property is closing. TV/Internet did not function properly. The furniture was damaged. The appliances in kitchen were damaged. The keyless entry from the courtyard did not function. Maintenance never showed up after requesting. The hot water was Luke warm at best. Bugs in the room, dead but albeit they were present. We attempted to find another hotel but all were booked due to holiday. The heat would not regulate and the room stayed icy cold. Very disappointed in the conditions verses the advertisement.

It is old but location is great.

Lower level rooms had a sour smell. Continental breakfast would be great. Looking forward to upcoming remodeling.

The staff was nice and helpful. Good location to downtown. Had a great stay.

Very enjoyable stay. One thing though, the property could use a little updating. Other than that, I would definitely stay again.

Hotel was ok ish. Could use a good scrubbing Bit dated. It was fine for a one night stay. If going to stay for longer would look for upgrades.

Really enjoyed the fireplace in the room. Thermostat on hvac unit did not work would not turn heat off no matter the setting. Unit just kept running and overheated the room.

Clean and quiet room with a friendly staff. The property is dated but affordable, especially for the location.

Friendly front desk staff.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. We had a good stay. There was an "old" odor that was understandable with its age. The structure hasn't been updated in a very long time and could use some TLC but it was good for our friends wedding weekend stay.

Great Value in the lovely Highlands. Walkable 1 mile Plus to shops. Enjoyed Yoga Highlands close by. Great dining and waterfalls. Spacious room, comfy bed, older bath but clean. Lobby lounge area had great mtn views

The Highlands Inn Lodge is conveniently located in walking distance from town and affordably priced, which is why we are return guests. We were last there 5-6 years ago.
We appreciated the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff, and the bed was comfortable. At least on our floor/hallway, the hotel is in need of updating, with worn carpet, bed quilt and walls. Some basic painting/repapering and flooring would make a huge difference. While clean, the worn rooms and hallways felt dark and a little dingy. The outdoor jacuzzi and fireplace were closed down, and there is nowhere to gather outdoors. The heater in our room worked but the thermostat did not, so either on and hot, or off. This issue was not a problem for us this visit and we reported it the the front desk on departure, and may be an exception rather than a trend.
I hope to see the owner invest in this property that has such good potential to be a lovely place to stay.

Hotel is very old and tired. Bedding was worn and stained and sheets don't seem to have been washed. I could see multiple hairs from other people on them. The cleanliness of the rest of the room was OK.

Clean room but unkept property for Highlands. Kind of dated furniture for the location . Hot tub not in service and non inviting out door space for busy time of year. No phones or clock in room, very limited TV channels , mattress was old and concave, no towels or coffee in room when checked in and housekeeper seemed busy on personal call in hall. Could be a very nice busy hotel with right management and staff that cares and looks professional.

Paid for courtyard view, there was no courtyard, just two chairs outside the room viewing parking lot.

Room was clean but facility needs updating. TV was small and no channel guide. Bath needed minor superficial repairs. No breakfast service on site. I understand the facility is about to be renovated and my issues were already addressed in the renovation plans. I would stay here again.

The rooms are older and can use an update. Several spiders in the corners. Staff were awesome and very helpful.

Have stayed here before. Could tell they were struggling to improve the conditions and service. I give them an excellent rating because the have come a long way in two years. Employees including desk people were much more helpful and courteous. The rooms were cleaner and fresher. We will stay here again.

We liked that it was not on the main strip and was quiet. We liked the courtyard door to the hotel room. The bed had a huge dip in the center, we both rolled into the middle and it was not comfortable. I asked the front desk about it and they said they are about to do a large renovation. They said that they took room 009 out of service until the redo.
6.0
The only benefit here is that it is inexpensive and close to town. The hotel is old, dingy and the room cleanliness is questionable. The front desk staff was very friendly.

The hotel and rooms are very outdated. The room we reserved with 2 beds was confirmed but wasn’t available when we arrived at 6pm because the room hadn’t been cleaned and no one was there to clean it. My sister-in-law slept on an uncomfortable pull out bed instead of the bed we paid for. There were broken outlet covers and the TV did not work.

The Highlands Inn lodge staff was excellent. They went above and beyond to help us and make our stay awesome.
