This is the best hotel by far in Margate, it’s quirky ideally situated and just wonderful. Jane Gemma Keith all the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and fed to the hilt at breakfast which is to die for!!! You want for nothing
We will be back next year for our 4th stay
Thank you Walpole Bay Hotel
Nothing not to like

It was a very special place. Our bedroom was opposite the museum part of the hotel so great to see each morning. Excellent views from the room. The owner was very hands on greeting all guests personally each morning.

Location and stuff
Extremely old mattress and old smelly furniture unfortunately

The character and brilliant service culture
Shower / hot water not so good
4.3
It is very romantic. Lovely views +very quiet +comfy beds! Huge breakfast.
The shower’s temp is too changeable - too hot - too cold. Everything else was wonderful !
4.3
Breakfast was delicious, staff were friendlyand helpful
Although the room was clean it wasn’t comfortable, small double bed, hot despite no hearing on and curtains didn’t block the light out. Also very noisy could hear people above, next to and out in corridor in the night.
4.3
Superb atmosphere and location. Excellent breakfast, staff helpful and friendly.
There was nothing that I disliked.

Wonderful hotel
Nothing!

A fabulous unique hotel. The team made us very welcome and super engaged with my daughter! The hotel itself is a total time capsule and loved exploring all its corners. The original 1927 lift was an extra historic bonus! A real treat visiting.

Fabulous old hotel in process of being restored. It was stuffed full of memorabilia of times gone by - it’s over 100 years old. Built sideways to beach so rooms all have sea view. Fascinating to explore.
Breakfast buffet style but delicious, plenty of selection and option for kippers, haddock and a variety of eggs. Every single staff member we met polite and helpful. Tidal lido is right by the hotel and people swam in it every day.
Quiet area a bit out of town but a pleasant walk along the seafront into Margate Bay. Free parking.
Bathroom serviceable but a little cramped.
There is no dinner served at the hotel so you have to plan ahead and go back into town- there are no restaurants nearby.
4.3
The flowers, the breakfast & the lift
Room was shabby, wallpaper hanging/ missing off the wall, bath with no shower curtain (despite being shown in the room photos) for the hand held shower, window curtains missing rings, no hairdryer as per description, hot tap very very loose, telephone did not work (to phone for hairdryer), mould around bath, no cups in bathroom, grotty old storage heaters, light switches that did not work, light pull on other side of room from bed, no bedside lamps, “coffee maker” was sachets (I was coffee maker), weird dolls outside our room. Windows rattled, all for £155 per night

Amazingly beautiful hotel. Afternoon cream tea was especially welcome. Good location. Super rooms beautiful view of the sea from the balcony. Staff lovely. Lift brilliant! Museum on 2nd floor is a must as well as the Tracey Emin art. Breakfast superb. Owner hands on directing operations.was due to stay another night but due to train strike this had to be curtailed.
Can’t think of one thing

Welcoming, pleasant, happy to please
Bed was too firm

It’s very quirky but the staff were excellent and Jane the hotel owner is lovely and provides a very personal approach which makes you feel like a friend rather than a customer.
Some comfier chairs in the bedroom.
4.3
A lovely quaint hotel, very nice staff and a nice location just outside of the hustle and bustle of the main drag. Very close to the beach and an easy walk along to the bars and restaurants 😁
Nothing really, rooms a bit old fashioned but it’s a traditional seaside hotel which must have been spectacular in its day 👍
4.3
Lovely quirky homely hotel with friendly and helpful staff.
WiFi could be better.
4.3
Breakfast was very good. The location was nice.
It would have been great if there were evening meals. It was good, though, that they allowed us to eat our own food in the dining room
4.3
quirky old fashioned charm
very friendly staff
great breakfast
residents bar served us after midnight
sea view from balcony
mattress and bed a little creaky

Great breakfast, lots of choice. The hotel is lovely and quirky, with a last century feel about it. It appeals to all adult ages. Surprisingly popular with modern media, performers, and artists. We saw a number of celebrities there. Local talent practised a musical production in the basement. There's an art gallery and a museum of past every day objects. Parking arrangements were good.
Some of the bedroom furniture was unnecessarily tatty. Many rooms however have been modernised while maintaining the antique feel. Evening meals are no longer available, except sandwiches till 9 pm, but we were able to obtain take away deliveries and eat them in the restaurant dining room.
4.3
The Walpole Bay is a perfect, beautiful institution of a hotel. Old world charm with modern facilities.Customer service was exemplary.
First time visit, most differently not my last. First class.with sea views too.

Lovely old fashioned charm to the hotel.
Nice staff and super big room
Breakfast was good
Shower didn’t really work that well.
Bit too old fashioned in some ways
Very dark second room that overlooked another apartment.

Staff and location were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble|! Breakfast was delicious and we wouldnt hesitate to stay here again. Such and incredible place!
Nothing, we were delighted with all of it!
4.3
The most beautiful hotel, olde-worldly, with an amazing museum.
I suspect it might be very cold in winter?
An amazing restaurant, but they only serve breakfast, and afternoon tea - no dinner, but take-aways can be eaten at the hotel.
4.3
A lovely hotel with lots of character, beautifully presented with a floral exterior, the seating outside was also lovely. The 1927 lift (original) was a nice surprise and works better than the modern equivalent (nice and quite).
Lots of free parking right next to the hotel, excellent.
The hotel also doubles up as a museum, so lots of things to keep you entertained.
Finally, the breakfast was great, food well cooked and presented, we both throughly enjoyed the experience.
It's an old hotel with lots of character but this does bring a few issues.
Firstly, room was very hot, had to leave the room to cool down which was shame as the sunshine was gorgeous, just too much. On this same thread, no fridge, with such a warm room it would have been nice to have a cold drink. Finally, a lovely Resturant but no evening meals which was again a shame, especially as Margate seems to be closed on a Monday and Tuesday.

very friendly staff. The area was ideal for us, Beach was close by for relaxing and walking

We like the balcony, the flowers in the front. The staff at reception and the late night bar man was friendly.
To much clutter in the hallways.

I liked the Victorian features of the Building & old lattice lift. I particularly liked the verandah with all the geraniums. It was lovely to have breakfast on & an afternoon cream tea. I liked that my dog could stay with me, although she wasn’t allowed in the dining room, she could go everywhere else.
4.3
Could do with a USB socket for laptop and mobile charging.
4.3
Ambience
Shower and lack plugbpoints
4.3
It was fantastic- a lively historic hotel. Lovely room, brilliant staff and a wide choice for breakfast (and we are veggie). I also had a ride in the lift :-)
Nothing.
4.3
Loved the 1920s of this hotel it was so lovely, especially the lift.
4.3
breakfast was excellent, staff were brilliant - very helpful.
location was good
everything was a bit tired and jaded. some of the lights didn't work
4.3
The breakfast was very good, however would have been even better if the tomatoes were fresh not tinned
The mattress was not particularly comfortable. The basin hot water was very very hot and would have benefitted from a mixer tap
