Everything was great! The place is very clean and cosy. The whole cottage has been renovated with love and an eye for details.
There is a thermostat to control the temperature, a small radio to add to the British atmosphere, the kitchen is well equipped, the furniture is of great quality, the bed is super comfortable. The place was also brighter than we thought it would be. We liked it all!
Very close from the coast, cafés, restaurants and Coop (supermarket. Come to Cullercoats, it's such a beautiful place with friendly people (and dogs)!
Only small details: the heating in the bathroom can not be adjusted and we didn't find a sponge for the dishes. We also wished there was a small blanket in the living room and a lighter blanket for the bedroom.
But all of this was really not so important, we worked around it and the owner was available by text if we had questions or requests.
8.0 / 10.0
The location and proximity to beach and metro.
The cottage itself.
We thought that it could be improved by:
(i) some simple summary instructions of the heating, stove etc. After a long journey, it would have been good to have found the heating on low instead of off (it was minus two outside). We had to figure out the instructions and contact the landlords;
(ii) the landlords said which restaurants they liked but it would have been useful to have a simple map and description / phone nos along with something saying where there is a supermarket and petrol.

The cottage is in a fabulous location for exploring the North East coast with Cullercoats beach just a very short walk. Simpson Street is a lovely street of colourful cottages and there is plenty of free parking outside the cottage. Access to the metro is extremely easy too.
Cowrie Cottage is welcoming, cosy and comfortable. It’s very tastefully decorated and is well-equipped. The log burning fire is great.
The owner text to say the cottage was ready for our stay earlier than check-in time which was a nice touch. Julie was also quick to respond when text with a query. She was extremely helpful.
We will definitely return!
Nothing at all!

This is a cute cottage in a row similar ones. it is however bigger than I expected from the photos. The living, dining and kitchen are all a good size for 2 people. we also had our Labrador and there was plenty of room for him and his bed. The upstairs bedroom is a good size with plenty of storage space, though beware of sloping roof at one end. The whole cottage is well stocked so all you need to bring is food and toiletries.
The location is great, right in centre of Cullercoats within a few mi utes walk of a supermarket, pub and a few cafe & restaurants. A longer walk to either Whitley Bay or Tynemouth - the latter having a big selection of pubs and restaurants.
If you have a dog, the nearest beach isn’t dog friendly in the summer but only another 5/10 minutes to one that is. Going inland there is an old quarry turned into a nature reserve within walking distance (with a nice pub opposite). We stayed 3 nights and didn’t use our car at all.
Not really a dislike as I knew beforehand - the only outside space is a small yard but we didn’t find this an issue even with having the dog.
Also, the bathroom is downstairs, although there is a sink and toilet off the bedroom upstairs. For three nights this was fine for us but some people may not like it
