This place is simply amazing
3.0
This property is nice but they need to take more care of it. It doesn't make sense that I paid full price for every night and my room wasn't even clean, the door to our room barely worked, pool wasn't open, power went out, bugs in our food. I wish it was better and would definitely rate it t better if they took more car of it.

There was no power, no water, internet was cut off along with the power, and the area had no service so my data didn’t work either. Pool was closed due to green algae all over the floors. And apparently it’s been like that for 3 months. Complete waste of money
2.0
The room was exactly like the photos, but the internet was constantly dropping, the TV reception was terrible, the pool was full of green algae and the 2 day time receptions need to be fired as they have zero concept of how to be the face of hospitality at a business. The hotel itself has huge potential, but needs lots of love.

This is not a 4 star property. Maybe 2 star. Dirty and rundown property with rude staff, and no management presence at all. Requested to talk with the manger and was never available, or contact us.

My room/suite was fantastic and the view from the lanai was amazing. The beach was great, as well. I stayed three nights and housekeeping never came. The pool could have been great but was dirty/greenish and the sides were covered with mildew. I would go back. With a little effort the property could be amazing.

The Carambola has seen better days. It is run down and the staff are not attentive. If you are not staying there for snorkeling or diving in Davis Bay or Cane Bay, do not consider this hotel. On the flipside, the diving is great and the scenery is wonderful. Maybe someday an owner will invest money into the Carambola to restore it to its glory days

Everything about this property was amazing except the staff was extremely rude!

No pride taken in upkeep. Pool had sand in it and mildew on the walls. Was there 7 days and pool was never cleaned. Hot tub boarded up and poolside bathrooms not in working order and in a delapadated condition. The common areas were never swept in the week we were there. Had been here 9 years ago and they took pride in the property back then.

The property of this resort is beautiful so it’s a shame that staff are running it into the ground! Found out that it’s owned by the government now, and thus the staff don’t care about hospitality at all. Staff will barely acknowledge guests and just hang out with each other the whole time like it’s their vacation and guests are just bothering them. Don’t waste your time booking this property if you have any expectations at all. Most guests checked out early. The hot tub was boarded up, the pool was green and trash, debris was on all walkways. Staff didn’t bother cleaning up and the maid failed to sweep any sand out of our room the whole week. I could go on and on!

I loved that it was quiet and on a private beach.

Location was beautiful. Very quiet and relaxing.

Dirty place, unprofessional staff

The property was secluded and the buildings and rooms didn’t look quite like the photos online. The water barely worked some days and was discolored. The rooms are dark and depressing. The whole property is very dark at night so you aren’t able to leave your room unless you call for an escort. When it rained in front of our door was flooded so we were walking through water. We called on the first day for days and broom to clean and no one ever came. There are a bunch of stray cats running around the property. There are only two restaurants to eat at. The staff were rude and acted as if we were a bother. They said to request a taxi to the airport an hour before departure and we told them the night before to give them extra time and they still had not scheduled our taxi. The restaurants are poorly lit. There was no entertainment at the party. My friends and I were so disappointed. We will never stay at this resort again. I couldn’t believe this was a Marriott property.

Lucky to have a beautiful property so we tried overlooking the shambles of a once renowned hotel. Very dirty rooms and rude people who do not care about this place. First room was disgusting, I genuinely don’t think they’ve ever heard of bleach - so inspect the toilet, especially for urine. Second room the toilet quit working after a week, so asked us to move to another room again. Used ice bucket to flush toilet. Pool was full of algae at the bottom so super slippery and gross to walk, but we prefer the ocean more anyway as we’re on an island for that reason. We adapted to just be grateful that the bed was made, although when they finally changed the sheets they didn’t replace 3 of 4 pillow cases so I went to ask for more and even the desk lady said that was super strange. We can’t figure if they’re high, severely incompetent, or treated so poorly that they don’t see a reason to care. One of us lived here over a decade ago and the other grew up in the jungle, so we’ve experienced severe storms, power outages, etc. - we don’t expect everything to be perfect and beautiful and natural disasters happen but we work super hard to spend lots of money to be here and relax, only to leave property to have peace. I wouldn’t dare go to the restaurant. Experience the real food that this island has to offer. Roti Hut, Chicken Shack, and Galangal are some of the best. Don’t bother with the kitchenette unless you really want to cook/microwave. There was one fork/spoon/knife anyway.

Rooms were good. Housekeeping brought clean towels every other day but nothing else had to go to the desk for more sugar and coffee

Not worth the hard working money me and my husband earned to be spent at.

We had to leave… No internet & we weren’t advised prior to arriving. The worst customer service by the reception girls. Plain rudeness and incompetence. Cobwebs and filth in the room. Lights didnt work. Then
followed up by losing power and their generator didnt work. Our vacation was destroyed. So without new management they will close down.

Amazing view of the mountains , beach. Beautiful rooms with view to the beach. But the cleaning is every other day . The floor and the shower was dirty . They never replace the soap and the shampoo. We had to ask for sheets and blankets because the sofa bed didn’t have it. The pool areas and restaurants needs maintenance. At night is very dark need more illumination.

We’ve stayed here before and live on island. One staff/ bartender was very rude and ignored us for a half hour. If ppl don’t enjoy customer service please don’t let them ruin someone’s vacation. There are plenty of other options

Room was nice. Pool was not appealing had scum on the bottom

Highly disappointing stay. Gorgeous view but unfortunately, the hotel is many years and distress. It is dirty and needs to be updated. And embarrassment for the Marriott chain. We actually checked out early. The air conditioner did not work the first night in our room and we had to move to another room. Unfortunately, unfortunately, it was not much better. The pool had green sludge all over the bottom and the hotel still had guest swimming in the pool although the front desk person said she “thought they had told Client not to swim in the pool. There were no signs or markers and.I hope that no one got sick.. everything was very very dirty. Staff was the best part and that was mediocre. They seem to all be aware of how disgusting the hotel was and agreed with everything we were saying. Went to breakfast, which was $31 and all that they were serving was picked over powdered eggs and minimal continental breakfast. Hampton does a better job at breakfast. I cannot believe that they have the nerve to ask us to actually pay for that. I wouldn’t have eaten it if it was for free.which we didn’t. We went and ate somewhere else offsite Marriott make a visit to your property and save your reputation.

Both of our rooms were infested with flying ants and other random bugs. They were literally falling from the light fixture into the bed. We'd wake up or come back to the room and there were bugs. Toilet was clogged, maintenance didn't come until 1 day later after calling and going to the front desk. Food/bar was good. Overall, will never stay there again!

I have stayed at this location before. The area was not cell service friendly. There wasn't any wifi in the room as advertised and there wasn't a phone in the room so there was no way to call out without leaving the room and going to the lobby. A little disappointed.

Taxi service must be requested for travel to any other part of the island and is not included. Breakfast is not included and is $30 per person.
There is one restaurant on the resort (with bar) but we preferred to travel for breakfast into town (christen stead).
Resort itself was nice, beautiful beach at walking distance.

Property very run down and need of many updates. Pool lights broken off and hanging in the water (safety concern), pool water cloudy, pool walls and floor very slimy and slippery (health concern). Many cobble stones loose and would move when walked on. One 2 places to eat of with very limited menus and even then still didn’t have few things on the menus available
5.0
The property could use an upgrade repair some of the worn outdated things around the resort. But all in all I enjoyed my stay and the beach the locals and staff were super friendly I would definitely come again.

Where do I begin. The pool was filthy, broken tiles and you slimed around the sides and bottom. The restaurant charged 32.00/ person for breakfast… no alternative. Housekeeping was limited, (lazy) it would have been nice to have a broom so that I could have swept the floor. The rooms were ok but we had a party of people that broke TV sets and yelled… next to us ..awful! It’s such a great location I wish the mother company would spend some money and time. Filthy bags laying everywhere along with black mold. The bartender (last resort for happiness) complained when we ordered 3 frozen drinks, tried to put us off. Never going back! They allowed cruise ship folks in to clog up the bar and pool for the day.

The T.V s wasn’t working.Food and Transportation too high..

I shy away from writing negative reviews, but this has to be shared for the amount of $$ we spent. PROS - The view was gorgeous!!! Mark, the bartender, was excellent. AC worked in room. Bed was comfortable. CONS - Everything else was a disappointment. Obviously a very beautiful resort at one time, but no longer. Resort was not full by a long-shot and we had to wait 2 hours to check in. Resort is not wheelchair accessible. No light in shower - which made it dark and creepy. Outdated/stained/ uncomfortable furniture in room. Internet was not available - except in registration area. TVs did not work - which everyone said their TV didn't work either. Broken sewer pipe in next door building left a not so pleasant smell. Pool so slimy on the bottom - not usable. Beach area not kept and fend for yourself to get chairs/umbrella. Not able to go into ocean due to sharp rocks. Locals were hanging out at resort bar one evening - which made us feel unsafe. Only a bar/grill & restaurant that were extremely overpriced for drinks & food. Several items not available on menu - including no mayonnaise. Staff was pleasant, but obviously there to have fun and hang out - instead of serving.

One of my favorite trips so far!! Beautiful place, great tourist adventures available, some of the best people I've ever met. Will definitely stay at carambola next time we travel to St. Croix. A perfect place to stay of you're looking for peace, relaxation and scenic escape from reality. You have to try the Gecko’s island adventures down there too!!!

Our room was phenomenal!!! Superb views and an excellent staff.

I liked the amenities on the property. Improvement would be a couple extra rolls oftoilet paper.

Great stay only thing was that the pool was really gross at the bottom but swim able so the only thing I would change was the pool cleaning (it had algae and slimy substances at the bottom and felt gross to touch and had to float/swim above.)
3.0
The people were never in a hurry to help or serve you. We asked several times to get clean bedding, it never happened. Food was overpriced. There was never really a rude employee, but the service was slow. The resort was just average, scenery was beautiful and peaceful. Not sure it I would stay there again, but wasn’t the worst place ever.

There are SO many friendly people working here. Dave was the first person I met. He gave me a ride from the parking lot right when I got here and took me back on our way out. Erald was an awesome bar tender. Colin making omelettes in the morning was always a great way to start the day. Gave me a big hug when I said goodbye. Hakeem at the restaurant for dinner made this trip great! Thank you!
