Excellent night stay in a lovely building
2.0
Short overnight stay for a business trip. The staff were exceptionally helpful at check in and for ordering a meal to take to our room.
We did not stay in the main building featured on the website there is a more modern block situated behind the main hotel. Well stocked with tea.coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits.
Comfortable stay.

Overnight stay for work. Was in the garden room annexe. Comfy bed, good sized room, perfectly serviceable.

Brilliant Hotel, situated in some Beautiful grounds, Not far away from the hustle and bustle, but you definitely feel like you’re in the countryside, I would definitely stay again
2.5
Magnificent old building and excellent value for money and view of the fact that it was in the London area. Young Barman, I think his name was Tom, incredibly welcoming and friendly
2.5
Very friendly and pleasant stay.
Convenient for car access to northern parts of London.
Drive access to the hotel grounds from the public highway could be better if improvements were made with regards to pot holes.

Stayed for one night for a business trip as a solo female. I had an exec room with balcony and the view was gorgeous. Everyone was friendly, food was good, location wonderful, room nice. Would definitely book again if in the area

The toilet seat in our room was broken and would slide off the toilet. as well as the rooms were very hot and stuffy as they were no windows open prior to our arrival. But otherwise the stay was great and we had a great time.

Hotel is in a quiet location and staff were friendly and helpful. However the rooms were disappointing, felt like a care home environment. Very dated interior and bathroom was for a disabled person. Great location and gardens. But wouldn’t stay again, as the rooms were set in the 1980’s unfortunately.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast wonderful surroundings. Downside there was no lift which could be difficult for the elderly or people with mobility issues
2.0
Nice room although a little dark. Lovely view over the grounds.
Balcony's terrace surface was very bouncy (flat felt roof.
Small table and chairs on the balcony were in very poor condition and need replacing. Could not sit on these in smart clothes. They were all like this along the balconies. Could do with a small privacy screen between all balconies.

Lovely looking hotel and gardens. Rooms ok, but in need of an update. Ecofriendlyness not great, due to silly little toiletry bottles. No excuse for that these days! Terrible old TV which didnt even have a working TV guide.

The hotel has interesting history and is picturesque as a building in nc grounds.
We didn’t take meals, the main restaurant wasn’t open on our stay and breakfast was extra.
A short walk gave access to local bus services to Harrow and Harrow on the hill.
A local pub worked for our evening meal, busy so good atmosphere; we feared the hotel offer would have been dull due to low bookings.

Just a beautiful venue, quiet, clean, easy to come and go, we'll sure come again

caution --we picked this hotel as builders it was away from the city down a country road. So we felt the van would be safer there. however it is not as this area is targeted by the theives that are also thinking that too. there is no real security on site, and no barrier access allowing them easy access at night to steel from you and according to feedback this is hot spot for builders vans tools to be stolen from this site.

The service at dinner was not good. The menu was shown to the five guests and we chose our starters. It was then taken away it was brought back and we were asked what our next course had been chosen. The breakfast was very hot having been kept warm under a grill so that the bacon was like cardboard. The choice of juices and needed to be replenished. The room was extremely small and the lighting in the bathroom despite being bright not good to see the mirror sufficiently to shave with.
2.0
Clean and comfortable and some nice touches like a more luxurious selection than you'd often expect of tea coffee and hot chocolate sachets, decent toiletries and good quality towels mattress and pillows.
The general condition of the rooms could be improved but would say for the price this was not unacceptable all things considered. The standard of service at breakfast was very good and nice to have linen table cloths and napkins. Cooked breakfast nicely done but the continental felt like it was a bit more of a side show.
The main house is very interesting and the four acres of mature grounds were very impressive and very calming.
Was a real surprise to find a location like this inside of the M25. Lots of parking. Would stay again.

Hotel was lovely. The grounds beautiful. The sun was shining so great to be in the grounds and dinner outside. Staff fantastic. The only comment I can make is in this day and age having a shower curtain along a bath is so out dated and not what’s expected.

We always love staying here. We stay in the ‘old house’ and we love the period features that have been retained. It feels like stepping back in time. Staying off-season means it is much quieter too. The food and service was great at dinner.

Aspects I liked:
Gorgeous, spotless, very comfortable, very spacious and well-furnished lodge (suite), tasteful, contemporary decor, with very long desk, kitchen area with table and chairs, sofa, beautiful bathroom, garden view, patio doors and garden furniture
Lovely afternoon tea, reasonably priced, in the attractively decorated Gilbert's Restaurant
Good choice of food at breakfast, the vegan option with avocado, spinach and other vegetables being both delicious and healthy, in the bar and via the room service menu, all reasonably priced.
Pleasant and helpful staff
Attractive, courful, scented flowers in pots, hanging baskets and beds
Quality and quantities of drinks in lodge and of shower gel, shampoo and body lotion
Ease of obtaining a taxi via Reception
Possibility of woodland walks
Tranquil atmosphere
Decor and furnishings/lighting in the main hotel
History of the hotel was interesting to read about
Aspects I disliked:
Very bumpy driveway leading to/from hotel - drivers worried about their vehicles' tyres and suspension being damaged
Some branches overhanging parts of driveway should probably be cut back
Better lighting at night to illuminate driveway would be appreciated

This was a quiet retreat from the city life & the hotel is set in such a peaceful location.

Such a disappointing stay. The annexe where most of the bedrooms are located is tired, soulless, lacks security, rooms that have not been refreshed in 30+ years. The food and beverage standards are very poor by way of quality, soulless service, unprofessional and very basic. Dated management style that lacks pride, professionalism or personality. I am a frequent traveller so know a bit or two about what is good and what is bad. This is bad.

Room was lovely and we decided to eat in the restaurant, rather than go out. A good choice. Food was very good and breakfast equally so. Staff very good and friendly. Some parts of the hotel starting to look a little tired but adds to the character. Overall an excellent experience and very happy with the decision to stay here

Stayed a few times now. The food is really good and the staff are amazing. Highly recommended.

The hotel is lovely steeped in history.
The room was adequate although the double bed was small.
The bathroom had a shower in the bath and an ingested towel rail.
Sadly the water temperature was like warm and the flow of water poor.
The pressure and temperature of water in the bathroom is not acceptable.

Next door air con was making noises making the wall juddering . Plus the heating went off at 01:30 . The room was very cold and the air con in my room 206 was not working .

Room (Sullivan Suite) was large and comfortable. Restaurant breakfast & dinner was excellent as was the service.

My friend and I stayed after attending an event there. It's is a lovely hotel with great surroundings, very attentive staff, and good food. The beds were a little too soft for our liking, and consequently we didn't'have a good nights sleep. But overall we enjoyed our stay, and would recommend the hotel.

This is a beautiful property of historic significance (the home of WS Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan) and I have stayed here many times during the past 25 years. For the price, it is perfect. Free parking, comfortable rooms, and a magnificent property. The Garden lodge could do with a little updating but it is full of British charm. It seems to be well run and I always love staying here.

All soft furnishing need up dating. Furniture tired.
Bath stained and shabby.
Staff extremely helpful and cheery. The waitress serving breakfast was excellent but could have done with some help as she was run off her feet but so polite. The room was basic but clean.
It was a convenient stay for us.

This hotel is in a fantastic setting and we booked this as it was my partner 50 th birthday, all was well until we went to our room soon as we opened the door the smell of someone smoking in the room was horrendous and seeing we were both not smokers this was not exceptional.
I went to reception they would have moved us but had no rooms available but offered to spray the room when we went for our evening meal , it masked it for that evening but the next day it was back as before , even our clothes and towels had the smell of smoke.
I don’t know why the room cleaners did not report this ??? It’s the worst of any hotel I have ever been to and I use hundreds of them during the year due to working away .
So be careful when choosing this hotel

What an amazing place - handy for the main roads into Bushey and Harrow, but set back in peaceful surroundings.
Super-friendly for our little dog, they had set up a little bed and bowl for her. Lots of space to exercise in the grounds, and then it leads to the footpaths to Stanmore Common and Bentley Priory.
The room was spacious and comfortable, there were lots of nice touches, like real coffee bags.
And we had breakfast in WS Gilbert’s library, looking out across the well-kept gardens.
