Room was nice with a free upgrade. No elevator.

The hotel is a historic landmark BUT it is very poor shape needing a renovation. The restrooms stink, the decoration is poor, and the staff is always in a bad mood. Overpriced for what you get!

Food and service in the lounge was great.

Staying at El Tovar Hotel was a bucket list item for decades and booked a night Friday 11/15. Arrived at 11AM and asked if we could check in early. Digitally checked in and was told I would be called when room was ready, but no promise before 4PM. Had a magnificent lunch (no res) with server Jack in the dining room, Jack - 5 stars. Checked back at reception at 2, room still not ready. Shopped for gifts and waited. At 3:30 asked again and was told simply, yes, your room is ready. No call - no notification. Strike 1 but room was beautiful.
Had dinner res for 5:30, arrived and seated promptly. Server was Paul who was awkward and aloof. Mike, the server one table over, was engaging and friendly with his tables. Food left wanting - my peppercorn crusted NY strip steak was literally coated in peppercorns yet the steak itself and demi-glaze were tasteless. 'Seasonal Veggies' were some carrots and snap pea pods that were chewy and inedible. $200 for 2 adults and 1 child - unimpressed. Strike 2
Worst to come. Slept in a little bit Sat morning and arrived at the dining room at 9:09AM. Was asked if I had a res, which I didn't because sleeping in and assumed breakfast on a Sat would be served later into the morning. Wrong assumption. At 9:09AM I was told they were only seating people who had res and no more. Astonished I went to talk to the manager who said they were short staff and not seating any more - dining room was 80% empty. Expressed disappointment and was told SORRY! Strike 3

Beautiful historic hotel that really puts your mind at ease . It’s right at the rim of the canyon . Rachel at check in was amazing . She made us feel welcomed and appreciated. She is a wonderful asset to this facility .

Walls are relatively thin. Screaming kid in adjacent room

This hotel was built with exceptional craftsmanshio and kept in an immaculate state considering it's over 119 years old.

Great experience, a privilege to stay at El Tovar.
Very Friendly and helpful staff at the front desk, the clerk smiled and greeted us, (you do not see that very often anymore).
Beautiful place, very well kept.
The AC is a bit loud, but after doing Rim to Rim it was ignored easily.
Thank you.

The food is good but served colder than it should be. The property is a mass carpets are filthy.
It needs a complete upgrade inside and out. The only reason to stay here is because it's on the canyon rim.

Pricey: $500 for small double bed

This property needs a serious upgrade or just general maintenance would help. The plumbing doesn't work no hot water at certain times no water pressure paint feeling railings unpainted.
Carpet needs to be replaced, filthy. Staff has a attitude of it's not my problem. Flies in the dining room windows not clean. Beds are horrible Uncomfortable. hard as a rock, old, stained & disgusting. Garbage cans with no liners in the rooms. Like making reservations for dinner is a complete nightmare, Is front desk stafthey have plenty of seating but their reservation system is inadequate. Reservation staff need to be Reviewed attitude attitude attitude attitude. The young staff members are very helpful however.

The hotel in a neat experience for the historical value and proximity to the canon. The rooms however are seriously lacking in size and appeal. Severely overpriced for what you get.

Location was amazing but that's it. Even the hotel is an historic place rooms need renovation and refreshment. Room are really small and not worth the price we paid.

What an amazing hotel located right on the Grand Cayon rim.

The room, the staff

The view of the Grand Cayon from the hotel was spectacular. We liked how close the hotel was to the cannon, and there is a wonderful porch to set on and rest if you want to.
We stayed in Williams and rode the Railroad Hotel train to the Grand Cayon. The Hotel picked up and transfered our luggage to the El Tovar. That was a seamless operation. Our luggage was in our room when we arrived.
Things we found difficult:
The rooms were small and not worth the price we paid. Also, if you are older and need an elevator, there is not one available. There are no public bathroom on the main floor.

Excellent food. Clean hotel, quiet location. Lots of place to walk and beautiful views. Wildlife tame and nice to see.

Caring Service: Joel at at the front desk and his manager made our trip an absolute pleasure. We booked last-minute reservations from an outside vendor and it put a lot of pressure on those guys to find us two consecutive nights in the same room. They went the extra mile and helped us to get an upgrade for a bit extra to a better room. The extra money was worth it. They had no reason to jump through hoops - except the desire to help a traveler out. Our servers at dinner showed a love for the hotel & its history. Note: When booking, keep in mind that you are booking a historic hotel in a AMAZING location that is seeking to keep its historic feel & authenticity. It’s NOT a brand new luxury hotel with huge bathrooms & the latest amenities…. If you need that look elsewhere. If you value history & location you will be pleased beyond measure.

Air conditioning too loud and couldn't open window

It was perfect. Able to see the Grand Canyon outside our room window and just a few steps from the front door. All of the staff that we encountered were pleasant and appeared to enjoy their jobs and worked as a team. We ate in the dinning room and it was excellent. The food was superb and the stay easily worked with one another.

The reception was very friendly. They adjusted our room with a smile. The food at the restaurant was delicious. The sunrise over the Grand Canyon was amazing.

I have stayed at the El Tovar a handful of times over the last 20 years. It is an iconic hotel on a priviliged location. All is good, but they are letting it get a little run down. This is particularly true of the dinning areas, They use to serve world class dinners with matching service. Not so much any more.

We loved our stay at El Tovar! It is hard to beat the convenience of this stunning location. We really enjoyed our experience over our two-day stay. Lunch in the lounge was just what we needed, and the staff members throughout the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful.

Delicious food at a very reasonable price point.

This hotel was in a perfect location! We have watched the National Lampoon’s Vacation movie so many times and have always thought it would be fun to stay here and it was outstanding! The room was great and it was so wonderful to literally walk out of the hotel and be standing at the Grand Canyon! Highly recommend!

We loved this incredible historic place. However, the air conditioner sounded like it could break down at any minute and was EXTREMELY loud, making it hard to sleep without earplugs.
