I assumed a 4-person dorm room would mean sharing the bathroom with just three others, but that wasn’t the case here. There was no mention of this on the booking page. Room was quite large, but has limited space for personal belongings.
4.3
Clean, and very nice. The bathrooms were super clean and everything was up to date and it was just a very good experience overall. It was quiet even for being next to the train. I was surprised how quiet it was. Would book again.

I was at a hostel for three days and got a top bunk. Super uncomfortable. Will spend the extra money on a private room from now on
4.3
Lovely stay with really great staff and facilities inc free tours and trips which I wasn't expecting (unfortunately I had booked and paid for things before heading out so couldn't do them ☹️). Shared bathroom did get a bit ick between cleans but that's on the other guests and not the hostel

This was first time staying here or even something like and it was right for the price guess its like being at summer camp sharing a room. Only issues was the floor i stayed on only one shower was working so would go to another floor to use the shower. Also elevators where slow. May stay here another time. Plus so convenient to be right in the city for the price. Breakfast was simple but did its job.
4.3
Very cool place to stay at in the middle of Chicago. Nice staff, clean, ok breakfast and neat the heart of Chicago. You need ear plugs because the train outside is very noisy. Would stay here agian.
4.3
Great hostel with many initiatives to create friendship among guests. Solo people don’t feel alone.
4.3
I stayed for 3 nights in a shared room with 4 bunk beds, on the top of one bed. The mattress was surprisingly comfortable. The full kitchen was handy. The dining area had nice big windows and was a nice place to eat. I have some food allergies and didn’t try the breakfast. I might go and see if they can accommodate my allergies next time, the front desk people didn’t have any info on accommodating food allergies when I asked at check in. I didn’t go to any of the free activities but hope to next time. Was cool to chat with folks from several different countries and parts of the US. I didn’t use them but appreciated the ping pong and pool tables in the common area. Also loved the murals in the stairwell. Downtown and close to public transportation. Some other guests said they found a nice beach not too far as well.

Really nice place & nice people. Very clean fun & relaxing.

It was good and comfy!
4.3
It was surprisingly cool. It was a super quick trip, just needed an overnight stay. The only thing, don’t forget to buy a lock. I was in a dorm of 8. Everyone was quiet, student age, no one bothered my belongs.
4.3
From a hostel perspective its nice, the lounging area is great the internet is great the location is great can walk anywhere downtown. Overall I liked it!

Fantastic kitchen

HI Chicago was everything I expected. A clean, comfortable room and friendly staff. Breakfast was good and all of the staff I encountered were friendly and always had smiles on their faces. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay in the heart of Chicago. And it was so close to Lollapalooza. Literally a 5 minute walk.
4.3
I stayed here for Lollapalooza. It was really convenient to the gates and was very walkable area with plenty of options for food and stores. The room itself was very spacious and the bunk bed was very comfortable. The bathrooms were very clean but my only complaint was that my floor was down a shower so there was only one shower for my hallway. A little inconvenient but it worked out. I was a little weary of the homeless people out front but they were tame. An overall amazing experience that I can check off my bucket list and would do again.
4.3
The hostel is located in the center of the city where “ can go anyway by walk. It is super close to grant park and the cloud gate. The room is clean and quiet.
4.3
Definitely need more options for breakfast. Maybe some veggies like lettuce and tomato to make a sandwich with the toast breads and cheese. Boiled eggs are always cold, I wish there were hot boiled eggs too. Juice, milk, tea and coffee, blueberry muffins, apples and/or bananas, bagels and a fee cereal options good. Events are very nice, varied and informative, bringing people together.
4.3
The location is excellent. Even though there were 4 or 5 homeless people camping very close to the entrance of the property, I didn't feel unsafe to walk pass them at 11 pm at night.
The room has high ceiling. The bathroom and shower are clean. Mattress was not the most comfortable, but not as bad as some of the reviews complained about.
The hostel also have daily activity. I was lucky to be able to join their Wed downtown walking tour. It was a well spent 2 hours of my one-day itinerary in Chicago.
I will definitely stay here again during my next solo visit to Chicago.
4.3
I was suprized at the city. Easy to get around without a car. Shopping, beach. Clean towels sheets blanket on arrival. Very clean for that much people going out and in.
4.3
If you want to sleep in Hostel Chicago pls come here better than other hostel

I would give a higher rating if the air conditioning was working in our room. We stay on the 6th floor, and it was stuffy. They gave us a fan, but in the summer, we just can't get comfortable, especially when the window in the room can't be opened.

Homeless close to the property, Smells outside, Staff seemed cold

Sheets on bed. Towels blanket top sheet on bed clean at arrival. Very pretty. Simple room beds, locker bench mirror outlets. Outside door of room area to sit, bathroom, vanity with mirror, shower. 2nd floor free breakfast, ping pong, TV, games, pool table, vending machines; TV dinners, ice cream, burritos, and regular vending machine products. Activities everyday, tours, Really
great.

The internal signage wasn’t great, trying to figure out where breakfast was, for instance. But the breakfast was good, and the places to hang out were fabulous once I found them. Ask for earplugs! The front desk has them, and that makes the train noise bearable when you’re trying to sleep!
4.3
Everything about my stay was incredible from the staff to the continental breakfast and a bonus is that it was affordable. I would highly recommend this hotel and should travels bring me back I'll definitely come again.
4.3
Great staff and location. Cannot be beat
4.3
Truly a great hostel experience for me and my preteen, who LOVED the community/game room.
4.3
Had a great stay here, unfortunately storing your bag is not free.
4.3
No light proof for upper bunks. Anybody turning on the light will heavily disturb the upper bunks. The building is not noise proof at all. The noise from trains and cars are horrible. Can’t fall asleep at all.
4.3
It was perfect
4.3
Very simple and nice. Would stay again.
4.3
Location is great, customer service was great (minus running out of towels one morning), however the AC not working in the upper floors during a hot stretch is my reason for the downgrade. Customer service was excellent about trying to get a fan to try to make the room somewhat useable. Windows dont open, so no luck getting any outside air to cool down the room. No water pressure for the shower, but thats dealwithable. Assuming the AC is fixed, i would absolutely stay here again just based on the customer service alone.

It was great place and clean and close bus stop and subway .
4.3
The rooms were spacious and clean, and the location was super convenient for walking/commuting downtown. I booked a bed in the 8-bed female dorm and only one other person was in the room, but I would have appreciated it if the person at front desk put me in a different bunk considering the whole room was empty. It made for a bit of an awkward meeting with the other guest and I ended up checking out early because I just wasn't comfortable with her after that.

I like the concept of hostels but I prefer the traditional hotel stay
