We had a very friendly and welcoming check in, but the room and amenities were very much not up to expectations. The “private” bathroom is not an en suite, but rather you have to go down the hallway.
The carpet was dirty and old, and my partner got bitten by some sort of bug that has made the bed its home.
The rooms are just above the pub kitchen so everything smells of cooked fat.

A lovely welcoming traditional pub with rooms. The staff were great and dinner was delicious. Although the booking states breakfast included, be aware that is the continental element only and cooked food is charged extra. I personally didn’t mind but would have been a little disappointed if I planned to have a full breakfast. The room was lovely but the shower was only just warm and the pressure was poor. Again, I’m used to hit & miss facilities but had my wife been staying, she wouldn’t have been best pleased.

Fantastic room and food but the best part was the incredibly friendly service from Sydney & Chippy.
I would thoroughly recommend this absolute gem of a country pub.

My stay at the George&Dragon was met with friendly helpful staff, hotel was very clean and accommodating, for me its the staff who gives the George& Dragon the praise, well done girls

Our host really did make our brief stay enjoyable. The George and Dragon has a style of its own and if tradition mixed with modern comfort is what you are seeking then this pub and restaurant will not disappoint you. They work to earn their reputation. The staff are both pleasant and engaging. It may be a cliche but you really will be made to feel welcome. Watch out for misinformation about its location. It is in the village of Rowde outside of Devizes.

The good points - all the staff we met were very friendly & helpful. The pub is very old and characterful, and has a very pleasant outside dining space, part of which is covered. A good choice of fresh fish dishes..
The not so good points - all the bedrooms are accessed via a winder staircase, which has a door across the bottom step with no landing space. This is not good if you are carrying cases or bags, There was very limited storage space for clothes in our room. The en-suite bathroom had a high-sided bath accessed via a narrow step which we found quite awkward to get in and out. The shower unit had very poor water pressure.
We had the continental breakfast, which we thought had a very limited choice - no fresh or tinned fruit available, and same choice of 3 cereals for each of our 3 days stay. Had we wanted anything cooked it would have cost extra, and not been available until at least 9.30am as the chef didn't start work until then, This is the first time we had ever experienced that!
We found the menu for evening meals rather restricted. Whilst knowing in advance that the pub specialised in fresh fish dishes (some of which we tried and enjoyed), by day 3 of our stay we fancied something other that fish, steak or beef burger. We found it surprising that no chicken or pasta meals, for example, were offered. As a result, we eat in another pub nearby (the Black Horse) and had an excellent meal..

Me and my partner ( Demi & Harry )stayed for the night and found this to be better accommodating than some over rated 5 star Hotels, it was all round amazing and the staff could not do enough for us , this is genuinely on par if not better than some of the top class venues, we will definitely be staying again without a shadow of doubt , when down in the Wiltshire area visiting family.
Thanks to my Dad for booking

Really nice quirky hotel dating back to the 1600's. We had the ensuite room and it was clean, tidy and comfortable. Good drink making facilities in the room, good bathroom with a lovely deep bath. Chippy the owner was friendly and helpful with local knowledge. The restaurant majors on fish dishes, and the menu depends on what is available that day.

Lovely hospitality from friendly staff however the ad stated breakfast included but this turned out to be continental only. The ad is misleading and we had to pay an extra £11 per person for a cooked breakfast.

Just back from two nights using The George and Dragon as our base for the weekend. The very helpful Richard let us in as Chippy and his team were away catering at a wedding. Our room was spacious, comfortable and full of character. The mini fridge and fresh milk was a nice touch and the wifi was reliable. Met Chippy at breakfast next morning - friendly and welcoming, organised a taxi to get us to a party and recommended a very good restaurant nearby (the pub restaurant was closed on a Sunday night) which we tried and enjoyed very much. Very sorry to have missed dining at The George and Dragon as the restaurant and menu looked great - so will have to go back at some stage.

Lovely room with comfortable bed and plenty of space. The staff were friendly and really helpful - they even offered us a lift to collect our car where we’d parked about a mile away for a party the day before. Great to have a guaranteed table in the restaurant for dinner too. We would definitely stay again.

Every single staff member was charming, cheerful and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were both excellent served in a lovely ,atmospheric bar. At breakfast we were presented with a large basket of beautifully fresh, warmed croissants. The coffee was delicious too.

It's a historic inn with great atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. The standard of our evening meal was excellent. But we were not told arrival time and there was no-one on duty at 2pm or at 3pm so we rang the number in the message on the door. A nice woman turned up speedily but showed us to what turned out to be the wrong room when later - after we had unpacked and were resting - her colleague brought another couple to take it. They kindly agreed to an alternative room as this saved stripping the bed, etc. Having a bath was a challenge! Extremely hot water from the hot tap and nothing from the cold tap and only a dribble from the shower. When the venue, the staff and the food were all terrific, it was a shame for these relatively small things not to have been dealt with.

Stayed 1 night as part of a support team for one of our volunteers who is walking from Clifton Suspension bridge to Beachy Heady (My Black Dog - Mental Health Charity) - Booked this hotel as it was near the next days start point. Met in the Car Park by one of the staff who took me directly to my room (No3) - really large spacious room with tea and coffee facilities, and an ensuite bath. For the price of the room for the night, this room was better than some 4 star hotels we had stayed in at a fraction of the price. Sloping floor and exposed beams added to the feel of the room and hotel. The hotel had already reserved a table for me in the outside restaurant area, covered area next to a wonderful garden with additional seating.
The food and service was excellent, and really good value. Went back to my room and had a very comfy sleep in the large lovely bed - there is some traffic noise, but this dies down during the night and I was so tired I didn't notice (coming from London, used to a lot more noise)
Great Hotel/Pub, staff really friendly and helpful, food excellent - would stay here again in an instant
