Good place to stay if you want to try something a bit different

Arrived early hours of the morning. Reception unmanned. Driver of airport minivan is your concierge. Might be pot luck if he knows where your tent is. Ours wasn't sure.
Tent 4 overlooks carpark and office. Not as private as tents 1, 2, 3 and uncomfortable with people looking directly into tent 4 from the carpark.
Roosters roam all over Rarotonga including Ikurangi - crowing all night long. Noisy road outside Tent 4 - sleep may escape you.
Equipment within the tent is poor/cheap quality. Bedding smelt damp. Ensuite benchtop varnish is peeling off.
Breakfasts are varied and delivered to the tent around 8.30am each day. Mostly tinned fruit and gloopy coconut stuff.
There were no children and related noise whilst we stayed which was the big bonus for us. Other occupants kept to themselves as we did.
Location is not near the ocean and is away from the resorts - another bonus.
No outside light for sitting on the deck in the evenings.
For this to be real "eco", we would have liked the electricity to be solar powered.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay mostly as we simply accept what is without fuss. We thought the use of the word "luxury" was a stretch but maybe not in comparison with a 2-man tent from KMart.
Expensive for what it is.
PS. room not serviced on the first day! Charged a lot more for 1 extra night (as we had a late arrival) than what we paid via Expedia despite the retreat having a "price promise"- not honoured Such is life.

The staff are professional, friendly and make you feel at home. Very helpful and cared for their guests. Nice and clean place to stay in a quiet area and you are walking distance to catch a bus.

We loved our stay at Ikurangi - in fact, it was the highlight of our trip to Rarotonga! Vicki and Alan have created a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere for their guests, and we were taken aback by their thoughtfulness. The luxury safari tent had everything we needed, and both Vicki and Alan provided great guidance on how to make the most of our time on the island. Alan’s breakfasts were also amazing, and the cherry on top of our stay! We can’t wait to come back!

Ikurangi Is such a great way to not only stay on Raro, but fully experience the local culture of the island. The resort is in a peaceful neighborhood but still close enough to hear the ocean. The pool is at the right temperature and each day we were treated to a different breakfast with locally sourced food and the portions were plenty large.
Our accommodation were clean and comfortable and you never felt any of the world around you. This is a great way to experience Rarotonga.

What a piece of paradise in paradise. Quite romantically beautiful in the glamping tents.
Vicki and Alan are fantastic hosts, nothing is too much drama and breakfasts are deliciously homemade and vary each day.
They have push bikes for free on site but would suggest hiring a car just so you can explore all the beauty of Raratonga and get to the wine shop to enjoy a glass on the balcony of the tent and absorb the view and serenity.
We loved our stay :)

🌺This picturesque sanctuary was just what the Dr ordered.
It's away from the hustle and bustle and beautiful. The glamping experience was exceptional, just the way we remembered it from nearly a year prior.
We love how we both breathed a sigh of relief and contentment, when we arrived, and we're very sad to leave.
Vicki & Allen, we will definitely be back.

I had the best stay at Ikurangi. I came to Rarotonga to unwind and Ikurangi was exactly what I needed. The tent was fantastic and comfortable with everything I needed, the breakfasts were amazing - such a treat- and the setting is tranquil. I slept like a baby to the sound of the sea. Vicky and Alan are fantastic hosts and I thoroughly recommend staying here!

The owner and the staff are friendly and very kind. Not a beach facing place but quiet with private lookout surrounded by plants. Free bicycle rental was a helpful service for transportation and carbon emission. Their concept and effort towards being eco friendly was amazing. Wake up with roosters, stay with friendly cats and beautiful mountain view. Start the day with the best tropical breakfast with different menu everyday.

what a beautiful retreat on Rarotonga! Definitely a place like home away from home. Alan and Vicki were beautiful hosts that were always helpful, friendly , and went above to organise anything we planned for our stay. The breakfast they prepared for us was honestly a highlight. The property is unique. Located in what we would call the most beautiful place on the island (picturesque mountains and palm trees everywhere). You get the feeling of being amongst the locals rather than a resort feeling full of travellers. It is also close to the markets, the needle, and muri which we chose to get to on our bicycles ( so much fun). On our next trip back to Rarotonga we would definitely stay on this retreat again. Thank you so much for everything!

Location was peaceful and secluded. Pristine garden surroundings and beautifully maintained accommodation.
Bikes available to use during the stay but a scooter or car would be an advantage as is not close to any cafes or restaurants.

We had an amazing stay at Ikurangi Eco Retreat. Luana helped arrange airport transfers as we arrived late. Each morning we were delivered a healthy, delicious, beautifully presented breakfast. And they catered excellently for my boyfriend who is vegan. Both Luana and Haley were very helpful in helping arrange activities and giving local recommendations. The room (we stayed in an Are) was clean, comfortable and had beautiful views over the inland mountains. We loved the sound of the roosters, and you can hear them all over the island, but be aware if a light sleeper. We were greatful to have the bikes for transport but we’re too tempted and hired a scooter which was great fun. No free WiFi but can easily be arranged from retreat.
Overall we had a wonderful stay. It was so relaxing to get away from the business of our day to day lives. It was also wonderful to stay somewhere conscious of reducing their impact on their island home. Would highly recommend to anyone looking at going to Rarotonga.

Its a very lovely place and we enjoyed our time there. What made it incredibly difficult was that it was almost impossible to find any staff most of the time which made things difficult, especially as we didnt know how to get around or to the beach or township for food etc. The breakfasts were incredible though and really enjoyed them being delivered every morning to the porch.

We loved our stay in the Safari tent surrounded by the beautiful wilderness of Rarotonga. We loved riding the bikes around the island and exploring. The pool was lovely and the setting very peaceful and tranquil. The staff was very friendly and our daily breakfasts were a real treat!

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, the Ikurangi Eco Retreat fits the bill and is a short ride from the airport on the northeast side of Rrotonga. It's fantastic, garden-like, with both existing free standing cabins as well as the more luxurious and interesting safari tents. We'd opted for one of the tents and were not disappointed. The tent is surprisingly spacious and Matt and Luana (the owners) have done a great job with the front decks and the rear enclosed (open to the sky bath/toilet area). Our favorite part of the day was waking up to the roosters crowing, brewing some coffee, and padding out to the front deck to take in the early morning and watch the chickens and the kitten who thinks he's a chicken. The hotel has bikes available free of charge to room the island and out favorite ride was along the back (inner) roads of the island, passing banana and mango trees, wild chickens, goals and other animals. It really was a welcome throwback to a simpler time. the weather was hot and muggy but being up on the raised platform with the tent usually allowed us to catch a good breeze and the sleeping conditions with all the windows and main sides open were ideal. When it was too hot, a nice dip in the pool helped cool the temperature. Very, very satisfied staying here on our first trip to the Cook Islands. Plus, the entire crew is unbelievably friendly and helpful (thank you as well, Jo and Susan!).

Great room, clean, large and equipped well enough to have a great stay. We loved the small pool, which never had anyone in it. A short walk to the main island road for buses, in either direction, we loved the free range chickens that hop around you. The unobtrusive Josie was on hand should we need anything, but all you do need is to savour the location and chill. Bikes on on hand if you want to get active, the main town about 20-30 minutes ride away. All in all a beautiful place.

If your after a true relaxing get away i would defiantly recommend staying here...waking up in your private spacious room with breakfast delivered every morning was the most amazing way to start everyday. the coffee provided was amazing local plunger coffee and a real full jug of milk (no stupid little pots) full size bathroom products of good size provided also. so quiet and peaceful there...not a beach front resort but defiantly recommend if your after relaxation.

We had a wonderful stay at Ikurangi! Beautiful location, very relaxing 'back to nature' setting and we were well looked after by the staff! Comfi beds and comfi chairs on the deck to enjoy the mountain views and the sounds of the birds.

Beautiful resort set back from the main road with a lovely view and very friendly hosts, much much closer to the beach than we had originally thought. We were lucky enough to stay in one of the Safari Tents, nice and cool with a comfortable bed and amazing outdoor bathroom which was still very private, being able to have a bath under the stars was a truly wonderful experience.
The Hosts Luana and Matt know everything there is to know about Rarotonga and made the sight seeing and entertainment parts of our holiday very seamless, booking scooters, organizing a party bus pick up, our Island Night experience, snorkeling, basically anything we wanted to see or do they could arrange.
Definitely an awesome experience and would suggest checking the Ikurangi Eco Resort out for accomodation if you're heading to Raro

Luana and Matt were amazing and just made the experience at their Eco Retreat the best possible. I felt like I was staying with friends by the way we were looked after and treated. The little things impressed me like the compost container in the fridge (and all I had to do was put my scraps in it), to the Ecostore products which made it feel like home, the free bikes which we used almost every day, the great advice for what to do and knowing I was having as little environmental impact as possible. The Are was beautiful and had just what we needed for a break from busy city life. I will be back. I could've sat and looked at the view of the mountains from our deck forever!
