The Iowa House is closing soon and it's obvious that there has been reinvestment into the property in quite some time. Everything about the hotel seems to be outdated and is in need for updating or repair -- which obviously isn't going to happen with the hotel closing.
So, with that, the service is excellent and the location is ideal. The $300ish dollars a night seems fair considering market alternatives. Just know that the place is pretty worn down.
4.2
It is great for location, staff were very friendly. Rooms are on the small side and a bit dated, but that is easily overlooked with the ease of getting around campus. Sad to hear it is closing.
4.2
Great location on campus, nice older hotel, the free continental breakfest is great.
4.2
Maps took us to the front entrance which isn’t a big deal but just know it’s the Student Union so there will be college kids there and they will direct you to the hotel check in which is in a different part of the building. We loved our view of the river and the room was nice. Plenty of towels and washcloths. The door gave us some trouble but with a call from the hallway to the front desk he knew what we needed to do to get it open. Don’t expect to much for breakfast but what they have works. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would book again.

Carpet on second floor is deplorable. Actually embarrassing.
4.2
Cheaper & closer than any other hotels walkable to downtown ic. Didn't have time to use it, but the included free pass to the rec is a big plus too.
4.2
Great hotel right on University of Iowa campus. Close to everything, walking distance to almost everything on campus.
4.2
We had a good experience with IHH! You can definitely tell these are dorms converted, BUT the bed is super comfortable, you can’t hear your neighbors, and the location is great for downtown IC. If I had to choose something to complain about it would be the lack of pool onsite (if you read the fine print you know they give you access to the rec center but the hours are rough) or the strange small bathroom. Worked for our trip and would stay again!
4.2
Nicest, most helpful staff I've ever met. Room itself was a little rough around the edges, but not to a degree that it was an actual problem, and the view was excellent. Breakfast provided was fairly underwhelming, though, and while I like my rooms cold, I imagine other folks might be concerned about it. And someone left a bra in one of the drawers.
4.2
Bed was too stiff and hard, was not comfortable at all. Hotel needs lots of updates and remodel but room was clean. Decent stay for just one night.
4.2
Only AC or heat and the room wouldn't cool down below 70 degrees. Carpet looks dirty or stained from bleach.

Great place

We have stayed at the Iowa House Hotel several times now. There is no hotel more convenient to visiting the college than this hotel! It is not fancy, the furniture and furnishings could use an update, the bathrooms are tiny, but the beds are very comfortable and the rooms have AC and a TV. They offer a complimentary light breakfast that is sufficient. We will stay here every time we come to visit our daughter, as it is very conveniently located right on campus with the parking garage (free) right there!
4.2
I like that the college repurposed the facility into a hotel. I did not like the breakfast options were cereal, yogurt, & toast. Overall my stay here was a good experience. It was a nice clean city and I felt very safe here.
4.2
Thank you to Abby & the staff at Iowa House for a wonderful stay. Clean resort, few minutes walk to the college town. Abby was wonderful and we would definitely stay there again.
4.2
The hotel is on campus so it was very convenient for orientation, but the facilities were old and uncomfortable.

Wonderful property
4.2
On campus, walking distance to every thing, great view of river, nice breakfast, reasonable price, very friendly and educated front desk staff (university students).
The only recommendation I have is ti would be helpful to upgrade the carpets in the hallways. The hotel is old but cost and need some refreshing. But it is properly functional and have all amenities you need.
4.2
A low key and comfortable hotel, more (as its name suggests) a guest house than a hotel. It's not as upscale as a chain hotel, but our room overlooked the river, everything was casual and quiet, and the location, on the university campus, was beautiful and very convenient. It'll be my first choice the next time I return to Iowa City.
4.2
It’s an old building and needs some upkeep. The carpets and hallways are stained. Drywall is peeling in the room. Bathtub drain wouldn’t drain while showering. It’s convenient if you want to walk to restaurants and bars. The staff I’m assuming is college kids. The girl that checked us in was in a crop top so her stomach was showing and the top was low cut as well. Very revealing. I understand it’s a college town but Im not sure that’s very professional to be dressed like that but, What do I know I’m old haha! Good location but it’s a bit run down
4.2
It looked like an old dorm for IU that never was remodeled and the beds where so close together only 1 person could fit
4.2
Good hotel for the University of Iowa. This hotel is owned by the University of Iowa and is right on campus. The hotel is comfortable and clean.
4.2
This is a basic hotel with no frills, but sometimes that is all you need. And since we were only in Iowa City overnight this fit our needs well. It was clean with friendly staff. It’s right on campus and the views of the river were fantastic. My only complaint is that both beds were extremely uncomfortable, which made for a very bad night of sleep and the reason for the overall 3-star rating.
4.2
Nice, comfy, walking distance to food and some shopping. Couple things in room broken-like a lamp shade - but quiet and comfy.
4.2
The beds and pillows were amazing. The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. The bathroom was small and some of the furniture was showing its age. The breakfast was minimal. I would stay again due to location and convenience.
4.2
I liked the well-built older building. The tub in my room needs repair; looks mottled and the on/off is quasi-dangerous the water comes out extremely hot. Bed was great, air-conditioning easy to adjust. Microwave looked beat up. Glad to have fridge. Carpet old. Breakfast offerings very limited. Some hard-boiled eggs would be nice. Coffee was good.
4.2
Very convenient location for school visit.
4.2
Property is outdated and needs new carpet
4.2
Perfect for the college family visit.
4.2
Rooms are old/converted dorm rooms. Not fancy, but fun to experience.
4.2
This hotel is all about the location. You are right on campus by the Iowa River. There’s lovely walking and biking areas as well as downtown being just a couple blocks away.
4.2
The hotel is part of the university and used as training for their various hospitality programs. Staff were very friendly and helped with any issues we may have had. Room was nice but dated. The bathrooms reminded us of dorm bathrooms with how it was decorated and the types of hardware used. The hallways were very dated and a little dingey. Free parking at the ramp is a nice bonus. A fine stay for the price.

Clean and convenient!

Great location on campus, friendly staff

Since the hotel belong to on of the Big 10 schools in the country I assumed the rooms and amenities will be in good condition. Sadly, the room I was in had very old furniture and bathroom looked like it hasn’t been renovated in a very long time. Also, the pool is 3 blocks away in the fitness facility. It was closed when we were there and that was a huge disappointment. Breakfast was also 1 of 5 stars.

Great location

I am going to university of Iowa, so this is the best hotel for me, it is right at the university, share the same building with the memorial Union. This give you privilege to park in the university garage with in out privilege which is great!
4.2
great place, right on University of Iowa's campus. Close to everything.

We stayed at the Iowa House to attend our daughter’s graduation.

Clean and efficient, rooms were small but we didn’t mind.
