Not what we expected at all. Most of the rooms are on one floor, which is quite run down with scuffs and marks all over the walls and floors of the hallway. Once in the room, it’s fine, very basic, but was expecting a fresher hotel and room than what we arrived to. Only stayed one night and was happy to move on to the next hotel.

Great location, especially if you want to stay away from the typical tourist centers. Still very central to the districts west of the Imperial Palace (Shibuya, Shinjuku). It’s a trendy area that is popular with Tokyo-ites. A very convenient and solid coffee bar awaits you in the lobby, as well as a cute little patio bar at the end of the day, The only sort of negative is that the rooms are incredibly bare. Small is to be expected, but almost no amenities or decorations makes it feel very utilitarian. I would say the other benefits definitely outweigh this last point, however. Would stay again.

Stayed 10 nights in July 24... Hotel was great! Location was amazing! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The only complaint that I would have is the window in our room was super small and was up high, kinda made the room feel like a modern jail cell in a way but outside of that everything was amazing! Will stay here again!

The Hollywood rooms are great value. Large, spacious and friendly staff.

Great! And the bagels are good too

Truly great hotel - quiet and comfortable rooms coupled with a fun and welcoming lounge, walking access to train and dining. Will definitely find a reason to stay here again.
4.5
This is an amazingly hip hotel which is very close to mulitple train stations making it one of the best hotels in the area! I loved the coffee and the record selection!

Excellent place to stay in Tokyo. Very convenient and staff were exceptional. Coffee at Sidewalk cafe is top shelf

Outstanding value. The amenities, such as the washers/dyers and the pajamas, are surprisingly nice. Great neighborhood, close to transportation, and walkable, too. Coffee/bagel shop in the lobby is excellent. Staff were so helpful and friendly.

The location is amazing, the interior of the hotel room has some scuffs on the wall and carpet but the overall stay was great.

Very clean and lovely staff.

Wonderful, quit hotel in close proximity to the Shimo-Kitazawa station; modern hotel with friendly personal; the room is minimalistically furnitured which is what I need; surprisingly, I had a LP-player in the room - at the reception you might get Jazz LPs. The hotel offered 2 pyjamas in the room.

The Mustard is a great place to make as home base in Tokyo. The rooms are minimal and modern. All you really need since you’ll be walking around and exploring most of the time. I love the coffee shop there as well as the lox bagels. It’s so close to shopping (vintage, so much of it) and restaurants. The train station is near so a quick trip to Shibuya and Yoyogi Park is a must! Great and friendly staff. Already planning our next trip.

We had a wonderful stay. Would definitely recommend

The Mustard Hotel in Shimo Kitazawa is an absolute gem. The accommodations are spotless & cozy, the staff is incredibly kind & helpful and it's so conveniently located, on a quiet & beautiful walking trail that has shops, a yoga studio, etc. In the lobby, there is an adorable & yummy coffee shop (Sidewalk Cafe) and it's a delightful place to work or just contemplate Japan.
It's super convenient to trains & it's so affordable. I can't recommend it enough (in fact, I'm returning to Tokyo for a night at the end of my trip and I'm sooo sad I'm not staying there).

Really great location and lovely accomodation. Definitely recommend.

This hotel like much of the area is dripping in as much cool as it is coffee. I especially liked the record player in the room and the free loan of records of your choice.
The lobby area was energetic while open and there are rental bikes and discounts to businesses nearby.
It’s a bit of a walk from the station in a quieter newly developed part of the area but felt like a home away from home. Again like the area it reminded me of staying in hotels in NYC / Brooklyn.
At the rate I paid it was a treat. At the rate I se it going for usually it feels more like a trick.
Only complaint I had was the desk chair was pretty sad and uncomfortable and the neighborhood doesn’t feel as Japan as most others here. Very gentrified / commercialized comparatively.

Great location, not many hotels in the area but this works great!

Very cool hotel at the heart of Shimo. One of the most child friendly parts of Tokyo.
Great bagel breakfast, clean, small room.
Extra plus for the record player with great selection of records to borrow from reception.

great location, friendly and helpful staff, cafe with amazing coffee. great value for price. I can't wait to return!

Fun and comfortable trendy hotel in a great neighborhood. Easy access to train.

First of all Shimokitazawa is a great place to visit, coffeehouses, thrift shops, record shops, restaurants, convenience stores, and very walkable location. My room was located on the first floor in the rear of the building. Lots of street noise late at night and early morning. Breakfast was good, consisting of toasted bagel, cream cheese, coffee, and yogurt. Location is very good, close to family mart convenience store and near to the train station. Stayed 3 nights, WiFi was excellent. I enjoyed

This was a very cool hotel in a very cool area - exactly what we were looking for.

Very nice hotel although it may cater to a younger demographic. Nice big room with a huge balcony that serves no purpose but still nice

Location is wonderful.

We had a lovely stay in this quiet bohemian enclave in Tokyo. Highly recommend it!
4.5
We sat outside with the provided breakfast each day, with NO traffic noise, as the hotel fronts on a Bike/Hike path. It was very sociable and pleasant, and sets a wonderful tone to start the day. The attached coffeeshop is also popular with the dogwalkers, so the front patio is cheerful and fluffy every day.

Wonderful! We enjoyed our stay at Mustard Hotel and will recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, clean, unique hotel in an exciting neighborhood.
