We stayed for three nights with family and friends while attending performances at Tanglewood. The location is quiet, private and convenient to local attractions. The kitchen is well-equipped with anything you could want. The house is beautifully decorated with interesting antiques and well-lit with chandeliers in every room. We liked having generous space to spread out and relax on the first floor. Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms plus a smaller bedroom off of each. The layout is a little unusual, as others have noted, but it was ok for our group. One family claimed the upstairs bathroom, and the other took the one on the first floor. Please note there is only one shower in the house - the lower bathroom has only a bathtub/handheld sprayer. The host was responsive to all of our communications, and check-in/check out was easy.

We stayed here for a week with two adults and three kids (11, 13, 15). The location is ideal - just outside of Great Barrington so you are in the soft countryside, but only a 5-10 minute drive into town for shops/food/etc. The Williams River is right next to the home and has private access with plenty of great swimming and fishing holes. We loved the home and were glad it was mostly original without a lot of overdone modern remodeling. That said, we seek out historic/authentic structures that allow us to experience how life was lived during simpler times, and we aren't fussy about minor quirks that go along with that! I will say that if you are sensitive in that way and want more of a "hotel experience", this may not be the place for you. For example, all four bedrooms essentially connect to one another without a hallway so you will be walking through each other's rooms all the time. There's one shared bathroom for all the bedrooms that requires you to come and go via a room that may not be yours. Some doors don't close well (including bathroom doors) and require some creative ways to maintain privacy. A few things need attention such as the edge of one of the original wood stairs which is loose, etc. The kitchen is serviceable, but not spectacular (again, we understand as kitchens weren't public "showspaces" when the home was built -- and we were easily able to cook great meals here). Bottom line: Exactly what our family was looking for - we will be back!

The property has a serene and distinctive setting on the Williams River. We found the house well furnished, with spacious yet cozy living areas. The kitchen is well equipped. A great place for a family of 4. The town of Great Barrington is 5 minutes' drive. It is also convenient to reach hiking /skiing trails to the north.

Serene location and a lovely traditionalist interior decor, dignified but still comfy. Only minor critique is that the kitchen could use a little updating and the dining area is somewhat cramped. Perfectly functional for most purposes, but if cooking at home (or a group dinner) is part of your vacation fun, you might find it a little limiting. A very small point though for an otherwise lovely property.

The house has a lot historic charm, but could be more convenient. Second floor plan means access to some bedrooms is through other bedrooms.

Our family was in town for an event at The Guthrie Center. The property was just down the road from the Center, and a 5 minute drive to downtown Great Barrington. The house was beautiful and in a cozy setting away from crowds of town. Definitely would recommend!

I can't say enough about this home. We drove 3 hours from our vacation in cape cod after traveling from our home on the west coast and were looking for a country getaway. We were blown away by the feeling of serenity and peace. The home had been tastefully decorated and on a river with a beautiful setting. My daughters and I spent a few nights at the property and enjoyed coming back to the cozy home after a day of exploring. The kitchen was well stocked, everything worked great, nice washer and dryer and the bedding and furnishings were perfect for the vintage home. I would only say that there are only two small bathrooms so if you have a big group, it mat get tight. But the Berkshires is about laid back living so we didn't spend much time primping. The location is only 5 min to the town of Great Barrington and 15 min from Lenox and Stockbridge and Tanglewood. There's a cute farm a couple of houses up that sells their produce from which we made delicious meals. I am used to stating in upscale accommodations and I can wholeheartedly recommend this property. The property manager is also very responsive and helpful.
