About this cottage rental
The lodge sits within an acre of garden, enjoying a fruitful orchard. With stunning views over rolling hills. Exe estuary and the sea. Internally the lodge is complimented with oak beams, Heavitree stone, granite mantel pieces and slate window sills. Star gaze from the luxury of your own hot tub or cosy up by the roaring log burner. The lodge is over a 100 years old but boasts underfloor heating. The lodge is an ideal retreat to get away from it all, relax and enjoy the views and peace. But if you fancy exploring then Exeter is not far as well as Dartmoor and several local beaches.

Beautiful location for a short break for my wifes birthday. Very secluded through a forest with views over towards Exmouth. The property is excellent with good facilities. We opted for the hot tub which was fabulous on a frosty January evening. It was an excellent base for my childhood reminiscing at Torbay which is just 25 minutes away. Plenty of wildlife on the doorstep with deer roaming through the forest.

Amazing! What a find. Peace and quiet, fabulous views and location, equipped to a very high standard and a sublimely comfortable bed! Would thoroughly recommend.

I booked this stay on behalf of myself and my sister as a gift to our parents for their 50th Anniversary.
They very much enjoyed their stay. The property was clean and as advertised, with a fantastic view. The travel and check-in instructions provided were easy to follow and the host, Nicky, was very helpful with any questions they had.
The bottle of Prosecco was a very nice touch, though probably doesn't come as standard.
Would highly recommend.

Fantastic stay at Exeter lodge ; beautifully kept accommodation with amazing views. Very relaxing in a peaceful location with just the sounds of nature and the added bonus of your own Jacuzzi for further relaxation. Dog friendly with a large garden area and fab hammock. Thank you for a fantastic break; couldn’t have asked for more.

Nicky has done a wonderful job of creating a relaxing experience amongst the fields of South Devon. We had such a wonderful time hiking, hot tubbing, playing, and simply letting the world pass us by for a few days. If we ever find ourselves in the area again we will definitely be staying here!

Beautiful property with fabulous views thanks to elevated position. That required drive up narrow Devon roads, but perfectly described by host. Unusually, everything that we needed was provided. Very comfortable, lots of room, and lovely large, secure, grassed area for our small dogs. Very helpful host with a special request (item I forgot to pack) which meant my error did not upset our break. Highly recommended as a centre from which to explore South Devon.

Stay was really great.
Fantastic location with lots of wildlife to see.
Nicky was fantastic, always quick to respond and even went and rescued the food delivery driver for us who was lost.
Nice to relax and the hot tub was a great bonus.

We had a wonderful weekend here, fully relaxed with the space to celebrate a 10th and 40th birthday. Very private but Nicky was easily contactable if needed. We can't wait to go back for longer!

Loved our long weekend at the Lodge. The lodge was beautiful inside and out. The hottub was excellent with views across the estuary. We walked our dog in the woods and completely relaxed. Just what we needed! Nicky, the host, answered all messages quickly and made our first experience using VRBO a good one that we will repeat, probably to Exeter Lodge again!

This is our 10th VRBO stay and by far the most enjoyable. The location is remote…… I’m talking 2 mile single track road remote. The woodland area is the perfect backdrop and the view is better than the photos. We loved the surroundings and the free roaming chickens & squirrels. All of the fixtures and fittings were well chosen and made the place feel very homely. We’ll be rebooking for next year for sure!!

Pictures don’t show just how nice the setting is or how lovely the property is. Both are perfect. So so clean on arrival and the rooms look small on pictures and whilst they are not huge they are big enough and bigger than we were expecting. Beds were so comfy. Views over countryside to the sea are majestic and the visits from pheasants and other wildlife added to the stay. Lovely large hot tub which is located well for privacy was cherry on the cake.

We had amazing stay at Exeter lodge, it’s a great escape into the country with amazing views over the countryside and out to the exe estuary !!!
There’s plenty of wildlife to spot right outside from pheasant s, deer, bats and plenty of birds
Would recommend for all age groups as there’s plenty to see and do around the area

I want to give a balanced review, so starting with the good points: the property is beautiful and in a fantastic location.
The bad points: after booking this trip back in February, we were told a few weeks before our holiday there would be no electricity or water at the lodge for one of the days (8am until 5pm) of our stay.
Understandably this caused quite a bit of trouble and worry for us - we had 5 adults and a newborn in our party, so it was quite stressful to plan a day around not having access to the basic services of electricity or running water. In addition to not having lighting/being able to cook/make a cup of tea/shower/flush the loo, we were also unable to use the other facilities paid for (e.g. the lovely hot tub!) and were quite worried that the food in the fridge and freezer would spoil during the power cut (including expressed milk for my 2 month old son).
I would have cancelled the trip and rebooked somewhere else, however, with us being told of this problem a few weeks before our stay there really wasn’t much in the way of alternative accommodation available – so the alternative would have been to cancel our holiday, our first with our new son, which we had been looking forward to since the beginning of the year.
Despite the inconvenience and worry of not having access to water and electricity while on holiday (with a baby), no refund was initially offered by Nicky for the day we lost at the lodge. After being asked about this, she has only offered to refund £21 – scaling the refund to cover the hours when the electricity/water were unavailable despite no provision to having been made to tell us when the power was switched back on, although, it is not clear if even this amount will be refunded as I was told that ‘that does not cover my cost for the new cool bag, bucket and water that I specially purchased for you.’ – which was missing the point somewhat about the problem, as these items shouldn’t have been necessary if everything was working – I would have rather had running water and a working fridge!. We were also told, in relation to this problem, ‘It is inconvenient for you as well as myself.’, which was a bit odd, as we were paying guests…

This property was perfect for our family summer holiday. The location is about 10 minutes drive off the A38 so accessible to all local attractions by car but the property is so peaceful with the most amazing views over the River Exe and the see beyond.

We had a wonderful week at Exeter Lodge! We could not fault it! We will be back! Thank you Nicky.

Thank you for having us for our shared birthday excursion before I relocate to Exeter shortly!
We loved our peaceful stay - lots of bubbly in the hot tub admiring the views. Comfortable accommodation and cosy log burner. Exciting drive through ancient woodlands to the property, and a wonderful pub (The Ley) nearby. Nicky was fantastic, the trip was a bit of a rush made stressful by Boris lockdown announcements so I was entirely disorganised but Nicky resent info and was brilliant - thank you!
