About this house rental
The Galena Chalet is one of only five homes in the Galena Territory with a full lake view of Lake Galena. The home is nestled into three acres of lakeside property with an abundance of natural forestry. The chalet has 5 bedrooms and is tastefully furnished and organized for larger groups of 8-10 people.
The beautiful Chalet is charming inside and out; nestled in the woods and located with the most scenic view Lake Galena has to offer. The chalet is made with the highest quality detail. There is a 2000 sq ft wrap around deck that over looks Lake Galena. Nap in the hammock in the woods, or watch the bald eagles soar over the Lake from the back deck. Gourmet chefs kitchen. Wonderful place for a family or group gathering.
The inside of the chalet boasts European influenced wood-working and architecture throughout. The interior design is a beautiful fusion of rustic-modern. The home has a reclaimed dining table with seating for 10 people; dueling sofas aside the stone, wood-burning fireplace; and a lower level game & billiards area surrounding a decorative wood-burning stove that can also fit up to 10 people comfortably.
We often have wild turkeys, deer, eagles and a variety of birds visit our property. There are various outdoor areas for taking in all the nature that this charming property has to offer. Sit by the front fountain listening to the trickling water and watching the hummingbirds in the chalet’s garden. There is a seasonal rotating bloom.
We have newly installed gig-speed fiber internet available and a work loft with desk. Perfect for a work-remote environment while traveling!
Please note before booking; the home is an older home, and with that comes charm that is unable to be built in modern day homes. There is no central air however there is a powerful wall unit system which keeps the home very pleasant. Feel free to read the reviews. This property was so beautiful inside and out. Truly such a unique home with views unlike anything I’ve seen in the Midwest. Stephanie was a great and prompt communicator who was very helpful.

We had the most spectacular week ever! The Chalet is just so amazing in so many ways. Breathtaking views, immaculate inside, and everything that you can think of is there. (or at least that’s how we felt) We even brought sleds for our grandkids, but they already had them there. Stephanie responded quickly to our questions and even had people shoveling and salting the driveway and sidewalks for us the day we left after the snow. My grandson even said he would give us his Christmas money so that we can come again!

College friends for 37 years (4 couples) - great place to relax, laugh and enjoy marvelous views and conversations. The views from the large deck are amazing and plenty of room for all of us. Large open kitchen with everything you could need and amazing dinner table. We will be back!!!

The house and views are beautiful! It’s a very unique property set down into a wooded area with views of the lake. It’s very well appointed, clean, charming and comfortable. This is a perfect house for friends and family to meet as there are many bedrooms and places to hang out together. There are only 2 and a half bathrooms but they are set up in a way that made it pretty easy for multiple women to get ready. This is an older house so with the charm also comes a couple negatives like no central air and some creaking. There are air conditioners in the main rooms which cooled everything except a couple of the back bedrooms downstairs which got a little warm. Put the morning people in those back bedrooms downstairs under the kitchen because once people are up walking around, you can really hear the creaking. But overall, this was a great place to stay and we hope to come back.

The view at Galena Chalet is gorgeous every time you look at it, there’s no doubt! But we were there in August so an old home + hot weather = mustiness and a bad mix for anyone with allergies. Probably not an issue if you plan to stay in cooler months! That being said, spacious and very pretty.

This is an amazing property and we felt very lucky to have gotten to stay here. The views are incredible, and the house is very spacious. Many reviews mentioned the lack of central A/C, so we were prepared to be hot during a summer weekend in the mid 80s and high humidity, but there wasn't a moment where the house temps were uncomfortable at all. The wall unit is more than sufficient.
I'd recommend booking activities well in advance. If you're not familiar, Galena is super busy in the summer and there were a few things we wanted to do that we couldn't because they were booked. My only 4 star rating is for speed of communication. Most of the time Stephanie back to us within an hour or two away, but it did take a couple of days for her to reply to a question about boat rentals that we asked because online info is sparse. If we had gotten her message sooner, we may have been able to rent one during our stay.
One other thing to note, if you're not an early riser and you're traveling with people that are, I would recommend being strategic about which room you're in. The basement rooms under the kitchen are *loud* in the morning because of the floors are creaking in the kitchen from people walking around. The only thing that blocked out the sound was noise-cancelling airpods with white noise playing.
Overall, we loved it and would recommend the place to anyone traveling with a big group that will appreciate the views and character of the house.

5 family women and 6 grandchildren spent 5 days at the Galena Chalet. The home is exactly as advertised and the location is superb! We spent time at the Owners Club outdoor pool, rode the bikes in the garage, rented kayaks at the Territory Marina went kayaking on the lake and made lots of food together. The house is very well equipped with everything we needed and allowed our large group to spread out and come together as desired! The view is fantastic and the deck is beautiful for early morning coffee and star gazing! We loved our stay!

We celebrated a 70th birthday with a girls weekend to Galena with family. Everything with the Chalet was wonderful. The views were beautiful and the amenities were great. We enjoyed the short trip to the waterfall and downtown Galena. Honestly, we could have stayed at the Chalet the entire time. It was very cozy and relaxing!

This was our second time staying at the Galena Chalet. We loved it so much that we decided to come back, and we are so happy we did. Highlights were the breathtaking view- we saw hot air balloons rising over the lake in the morning and wild turkeys, bonfire and smores at night, pool at the owners club, puzzles on the huge table, and the screened in patio for relaxing. We spent a long weekend in the Galena Territory. Stephanie's Chalet. I book a trip every year for a group of 5 friends and surprise them on where we're staying as they don't find out until we show up. They were blown away by the charm and views of the chalet. We spent most of our time in the kitchen cooking, around the large tables playing games, outdoors on the upper deck enjoying the view, and on the main floor couches just visiting. Downtown Galena is only about 10-15 minutes away and has a lot to offer with many shops and restaurants where you could spend a whole day. We also went to Hoof It goat treks that was also about 10-15 mins away and got to take a leisurely hike with the goats and enjoyed live music and a bonfire. We all had a great time! The chalet was a beautiful place to stay and provided a great refreshing retreat.

Sometimes pictures online can really sell a place and be slightly inaccurate. This place however, was much more beautiful than anticipated and the views were fantastic. The inside of the home had an amazing theme that made you feel right at home. Something I thought was a huge added bonus was the sound system. They have a Bluetooth receiver that connects to surround sound speakers upstairs and it is very high quality sounds and the design of the home makes it travel nicely throughout. Extremely comfortable beds and couches. Great trail area for a morning walk and bike ride. Will 100% book again in the future.

The check-in process was easy. The view is fantastic. The house has a rustic charm that is well-staged (even for Christmas). Restoration Hardware heavily influenced the decor throughout the house. WiFi was fast and never an issue. There was a stereo in the central part of the house, which was blue tooth accessible. As a music lover, this was an excellent addition to the home. The owners were super friendly and responded well to questions. I'd love to stay there in the fall for the changing leaves. I bet it's gorgeous! We loved the house and would recommend staying there without hesitation.

This property features gorgeous views in a quiet, peaceful setting.! This was a great property for our Thanksgiving family trip. Kitchen was very well equipped for all of our cooking. The property features a working fire place and lots of cozy fur throws. There are a couple of large TVs (for parade and football watching!) just be warned that there is no cable but they do offer a Roku with Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Apple TV and the Roku channel. Really, we had no shortage of channels to watch. Galena itself was lovely - lots of little shops for browsing and some historical sites for family viewing. We'd love to come back in the summer or Fall to take advantage of the huge deck that overlooks the lake and the screened in porch. But it was also a cute and cozy place for our Thanksgiving celebration. Host extremely responsive to any questions that we had. Host also sent some advance information on the area that was very helpful to acclimate us to the location. Check in and out process very smooth. Really nice and unique spot for your next trip!

We booked this property for a quiet fall getaway and could not have been happier. It is an extremely charming, spacious home that had everything we needed. It was great to explore the home, it was had a rustic but modern cabin vibe and we especially loved to explore the ‘mini libraries’ in various parts of the house. The views were spectacular. Deck was amazing and had a lot of seating (restoration hardware furniture). It had modern updates such as nest system, great sound system that is blue tooth accessible, etc. Plenty of wood for the fireplace and a garage stocked with bikes and outdoor supplies. The downtown area of Galena was not to far and we enjoyed time there. We hope to visit again!

Wonderful home in great location and amazing lake views. There are neighbors, but you cannot see them at all from the home and feel like you are in your own secluded area overlooking Lake Galena. There is plenty of room for large families to spread out to have their own space, but this stay was just my spouse and I to relax and celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The house had everything we needed as far as dishes, towels, soap, etc. Enjoyed the use of the proximity cards to rent a pontoon boat at a surprising low price to explore the lake. Also appreciated the owner having bikes on site for use, but we didn't use them as we rented electric bikes and rode the Galena River Trail. Wonderful communication with the owner and can't wait to come back and stay again!

We always look for a special place for our annual family vacation and this house didn't disappoint. We loved the living room/kitchen area and the attached deck with an incredible view. It's a very well equipped house and kitchen and we ended up eating in on the deck every evening. It's very quiet and surrounded by trees (you can't see or hear the neighbors). Everyone in our group agreed the beds were very comfortable.
We were there during a week where the temps were mostly in the 90's and although the house doesn't have central air, the air conditioners they had were more than adequate to keep things plenty cool.
You also get guest privileges at the Galena Territory Owner Club, which we went to with our son almost daily to use the pool facilities (they have three pools). The club was a quick 8 minute drive away. Galena itself is about 12 minutes away.
We would easily choose to come back here!

A group of four families stayed here for a full week as a get-away from the city (Chicago). We were 7 adults and 3 children (14, 10, 9). Our goal was mostly to visit and take in the relaxing nature with short day trips to Galena, Dubuque and any other area attractions. The house provided a very nice setting for us.
There is plenty of room to relax either as a group or to sneak off on your own. The deck is the probably the most idyllic with plenty of different seating for visiting, working, eating, reading, napping, etc. Main floor and lower floor seating is very comfortable and roomy too.
The kitchen was very nice for cooking all of our dinners. There is a gas grill right outside on the deck, which we used frequently. There are plenty of cooking tools, trays and utensils. There is a selection of leftover spices and such in the cabinet as well. The dishwasher was nice since our group was so large.
The beds and bedding were all comfortable with closet space for clothes. The downside is that there is only one window ac unit on the lower level where three of the four bedrooms are. It was a hot weekend, so at night when we closed our bedroom doors, no ac was able to reach us and it got warm in the bedrooms. The main bedroom on the main floor has its own window unit, which was nice.
As noted in the description, the house is an older country-style house. So that comes with a little more dust throughout and some dampness in the lower level. It wasn't a problem though. There are a lot of animal hides/furs throughout the house. Just a note if that is a bother to anyone in your group.
The nature attractions surrounding the area are all very nice. The deck is perfect for bird watching, staring at the lake, watching the hot air balloon, stars, etc. We rented a pontoon from the marina. There is a two-hour minimum for pontoons, and the lake is fairly small, so two hours is plenty. What we didn't realize is that the house does not have direct access to the lake on property. Also, there is no swimming allowed in the lake, which wasn't clear ahead of time. The pool is a short drive from the home and is nice. We were looking forward to using the bikes, but we didn't realize ahead of time how hilly the area is. You need to be a seasoned biker or take the bikes to a trail via car to really use them.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely return if in the area again. It's not easy to house four families, and this place did it well.

From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out we enjoyed our stay. Our family needed a few days to relax and take in the views of this beautiful property and it didn’t disappoint. The reviews from others were all accurate. Everything was clean and comfy, it was cool throughout the house. And the best part was by far the deck and 3 season porch. If you are thinking about staying her, stop what you are doing and book it immediately.

The Galena Chalet is a beautiful home situated in beautiful country. Well stocked. Comfortable. Incredible views. Pool table a bonus. Short drive to Galena. Lots of amenities including tennis, pickle ball, swimming, boat rental, and hiking. We just happened to have not so ideal weather but enjoyed our stay regardless. Thank you to our hosts who were very accommodating!
