Service was excellent. The location and ambiance were fantastic. A good breakfast set us up for the drive home. The only downside was the extremely restricted festive dinner menu, with no option of the normal bar snacks. But we'll be back.

Frienfly hotel, good food and great location

Tired and dated. Had to move rooms due to a terrible whirring noise from an outside unit on the first night (room 42). No bottled water in the rooms, 2 plug sockets that worked, hairdryer old and useless (not pat tested since 2020). Food average. On checkout there were charges for meals and drinks that were not ours. Had asked for pay at property but when we went to check out they said they said they had already taken payment from my card.

Absolutely beautiful hotel! Looks like they're working on refurbishment/modernisation, which it does need in places. No central heating, only an electrical heater which didn't work very well. Luckily not a cold weekend when we stayed.
Lovely breakfast, very tasty sausages, could do with more choice or bread or some croissants.
Very nice and friendly staff, super helpful!

The noise from the heating system was a problem, the banging in the pipes would have made it impossible to sleep in the first room we were given. After getting a different room two doors down it was tolerable. Nice food in the brasserie, but they should invest in some proper brandyglasses in the bar!

room was very dated , was small and not comfy

Receptionist was most unhelpful to the point of being rude. My party needed to book a taxi to the airport and she insisted we would need a 7 seater for 3 people with only hand luggage. She also overcharged for the agreed room rate

Power cut and staff unable to rest the water pump so no water to 6:50am and I needed to leave by 7am so I was unable to shower.
No bottled water available even to clean teeth.
Staff dismissive and no apology.

We had booked an admittedly low price room which meant we stayed in one of the row of cottage rooms separate from the hotel. The room itself felt slightly damp but there were two other problems. One was there was no hair dryer in the room. However the main problem was the mattress on the bed. Frankly it should have been replaced months ago as the springs at the edge had failed. Quite simply it was the most uncomfortable hotel bed I have ever tried to sleep in!
We were not impressed.

Lovely location, the whole hotel is just a little tired now & needs a refurbishment.
Nice to stay, however doubt I would return.

Booked the restaurant, for the restaurant to then please closed so had food at the bar. Staff lost order and tried to overcharge by £10 until pointing out the deal they had which was 3 plates for £18. Room is in a "Cottage" which is not a cottage but a long 2 floor external building, basic room, squeeky uncomfy bed, flaking paint in bathroom. Better quality at a budget hotel which are half price, very disappointed.

We were welcomed very warmly and were told a wedding was held that night, which was fine. We couldn't hear the party from our room so that was good, I'll come back to that later.
Upon entering our room, we noticed it was very lived down. It didn't feel clean, paint was chipping from the door, carpet was filthy, mold in the bathroom, the bed linnens didn't feel fresh, it was hot.
There was a note saying we shouldn't open the windows because of flies, which we totally get. However, when you know the rooms can get hot (it's an old hotel, that shouldn't come as a surprise), there's no airconditioning (which wasn't stated correctly everywhere), you would expect decent alternatives to cool down. There was a tiny fan that was so loud, we thought it would lift off any second.
Back to the wedding. At 22h30, fireworks were set off on the parking lot. Right next to our room. I can not state enough how angry that made me. We brought our dog with us. It took us 2 hours to calm her down. How dare you state on your website that the hotel is dog friendly? We took time to research hotels that weren't part of a big chain, and were dog friendly. I went to the lobby to complain and they stated "we told you a wedding was going on". Again, I'm fine with a wedding, but who in their right mind thinks it's okay to set off fireworks next to a hotel with dogs, probably sleeping children. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had and will never recommend your place to anyone.

Paid for executive room but it was not an executive room, it was much smaller than it should be, only two plug sockets, small fan as you weren’t allowed to use air con in the height of summer the room was like a sauna, couldn’t use bathroom sink as plug didn’t work, meal times were disorganised chaos food running out and not being replaced quick enough, menu was pathetic most food had chilli which I cannot eat, overpriced tiny portions and unsatisfactorily cooked I’ve eaten better at Wetherspoons for less money the whole hotel needs a refurbishing as very dated and scruffy would not recommend or go there again.
Avoid at all cost

Lovely setting and convenient location

The location was prefect, parking available lovely view of the river. Meet and greeted by a friendly lady. Room is nice considering the building is old, I was at the back and the ventilation system was on so I couldn’t open the window, air conditioning wasn’t working. Lots of noise from people coming in and out, which disturbed my sleep.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with ample parking. The cottages exterior and communal areas could do with some updating. The shower room has been updated and the amenities in the room with tea and coffee making facilties. The choice at the buffet breakfast was ample with a very wide variety of hot and cold items. Check in and out was very efficient. The bed was slightly on the soft side for my weak back.

Looked tired and needed updating. We stayed in room 6 and i can't be the only lady who needs a hairdryer where she can also see a mirror - a very basic request. The bathroom door didn't close properly and the room was generally disappointing - unlikely to return. Breakfast was good.

Nice room but lights outside shine all night in to bedroom. Bath water would only get to tepid and the bath tap of hot in room 18 was so hard to turn off I bruised my knuckle. Gorgeous setting and quiet at night

Awesome hotel - maybe this is typical England but this place is like something from a movie. Really cool.

What a great hotel! I booked because of its proximity to Donington Park race circuit and didn't really look at the details. The location is remarkable. Picturesque, next to a river, at the end of a pretty country lane. The room was large, well appointed and clean. It was a hot day but a fan was provided in the room. The pillows are particularly good, as is the shower. Staff were welcoming and food and drink was tasty and reasonably priced. The place has character, free parking too.

Stayed in the cottages, the mattress was very old and worn out, the property felt like it needed some care.
Both dinner and breakfast were fine but nothing special. Lovely setting but overall will probably look elsewhere next time.

Lovely hotel in a great location - would stay there again. Staff friendly and helpful - there was a wedding party going on at the time of our stay but this didn't detract from the general peacefulness of the hotel.

Excellent value for the price.

This is a basic hotel which could be beautiful with some care and attention. The bed was comfortable and linen clean. Bathroom not so great and a lack of adequate towels an issue. Great location, some quirky features. Needs some investment in sprucing up the windows, carpets and external walkways to rooms.

Welcome very good. Overall staff very friendly and efficient. Food was average. Room not as clean as expected. Decoration tired, mould on bedroom window bottoms. Bathroom sink tap mouldy as was the overflow.

The dancing above the restaurant made the dinner experience challenging it was so noisy.
Also trucks delivering early morning very noisy outside room at 7 am

I moved rooms because the first one I got was terrible (Cottage Room) dreadful tired decor and the worst mattress I have ever experienced. 2nd room really wasn't any better. The food menu was far too basic. Dated and tired hotel. Cannot recommend.

Stayed here for 1 night. What a place! Very idylic. Room was a really good size and layout (stocker suite). Had everything we needed. The food in the bar and grill was excellent quality and tasted amazing. Drinks were reasonably priced taking into account the furnishings and surroundings. Service was excellent and staff were well presented, smart and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. All items of excellent quality and price was good value for money. I usually like to leave some constructive criticism but could not fault our stay in anyway. Well worth a visit.
