The hotel is clean well kept, the staff is very professional and friendly, but the streets are not the cleanest.

Really helpful staff, great wifi, good location

They advertised they spoke english. They did not. They were unwilling to even try when i tried to speak a little Portuguese. This was one of the main factors for choosing this hotel. The rooms were filthy and mildew everywhere. When they cleaned (3 times in 11 days) they were finished in 5 minutes.

Good location and free parking. Breakfast ok! Bathroom ok. Bedrooms are small but ok. Elevators and refrigerators are to old and dirty! Staffs are very polite!

The location was good, room was small, AC was really noisy, breakfast room was too small for the crowd of people.

Hotel has poor service, unfriendly staff no one speaks any other lenguage besides Portuguese.
They close breakfast service 45 minutes before closing time. Also when we went they said they run out of coffee. I had to go and complaint wuth management.
Rooms are not clean with beach sand and worn out towells.

Located next to the colourful steps and also the cathedral the hotel is very convenient. It's also easy to get a taxi to take you to other sites such as Sugar Loaf Mountain at a reasonable price.
The beds for me were not very comfortable and gave me a bad back, the room however was clean and tidy and the air conditioning was effective. The bathroom was small but it was fine for a nights stay.
The reception speak limited to no English at all, which always makes life a little more challenging. However smiling and pointing always helps. The staff are very happy to help. They were brilliant in getting us assistance with the flat battery on our car.
The food for breakfast was nice and plenty full. If you want just a bed for the night in a good location and don't want to pay too much. Then this is ideal.

This hotel was hard to hard. Even the Google map didnt help. After going down a dark alley at night, I finally arrived at the hotel. I dont recommend venturing out at night in the neighborhood where the hotel is located. The staff is very nice.

For a budget hotel, the quality and cleanliness of this hotel were very good. The rooms were semi-updated and equipped with IKEA-like furnishings, although the bathrooms could use an update. We came to Vina Del Mar after staying one night at the Hotel Americano next door, and by comparison, Vina Del Mar is like the Ritz Carlton. Hotel Americano was filthy and had BED BUGS, so we changed immediately to Vina Del Mar and it was a vast improvement. Strangely, it had the same management so I'm not sure why the standards are so markedly different while the price is very similar. Marcos at the front desk spoke English well and was very professional and helpful. It's walking distance to the bars and party scene of Lapa, but honestly the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. I probably would not stay in Lapa again if i went back to Rio, but if I did, Vina Del Mar is a good choice.

Close to the party streets, but still in a quiet area. 5-10 min walk from metro station. Not so very serviceminded personel. Breakfast sucked, cold scrambled eggs and bread, thats what you can expect. Still recommended, good location and cheap!

Would not recommend this hotel, unless you are single young person who does not mind bad neighborhoods and are trying to save a buck or two. Defenders not a 3 or a 2 star rating. 1.5 on my list.

safe was not locked to the door. windows were not safe - anyone could easily enter my room from the parking lot.

Value for money when compared to other locations price was about right. Centrally located so was easy to get to points of interest either by taxi or local transport.

We weren't sure about the hotel upon arrival because of the back road/neighborhood, however it's tucked away, private, and quiet once you're inside. The staff was very friendly, and helpful however didn't speak English, luckily my husband is Brazilian. :) The room was clean, nothing fancy, fairly modern,tv and it had a fridge, safe, & wardrobe. The sleeping area was very comfortable, and the bathroom was a nice size, but old, needed renovation. We needed an adaptor for U.S. electronics. It was pretty quiet at night, even had windows open with no problem. Overall it was nice, just the neighborhood was a little shady but no one bothered us, there's a church right across the street, even went walking a little at night. Just be alert when going out but lots of people walking around.

As I was checking in, a fellow customer was asking for his money back.
The pillows were made of polyester. The blankets were light sheets.
No dresser, or draws to put clothes in.
The cabin of a cruise ship would have been more comfortable.
I was in brazil for 10 days, checked out after 4 days and got a new room.

No english in the reception. Close to the metro, but a little shabby neighbourhood. Still felt safe, even after nightfall. Nice big rooms.

The hotel was in a good location, but its a bit tired. You could see that once it had been quite grand. It was clean, functional and the air conditioning worked well. The sheets were spit thin, in fact one was even darned.
The staff were nice, but had limited English, we used Google translate to communicate with them, which worked a charm.

No room service.
No fresh linen.
No trash removal.
No inquiry of your stay.
Not good for a date, unless the person is a stranger and their is no where else to go.
No closets or dresser draws.
Staff is friendly, don't speak english*
