This hotel is a little gem, steeped in history and very central. The internal lounge area with it's palms and exotic plants is wonderful. I would recommend this hotel so long as you are not looking for luxury. There are lovely views from many rooms and the pool is good. Shame they don't offer tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. Fixtures and fittings are sadly just looking a bit tired.

It's an old building and a rolling upgrade is being slowly rolled out. Overall, it's a bit worn but comfortable. Quite a decent breakfast is included.

Liked situation.- very clean….But the staff were uncaring and no help at all- apart from the older receptionist on the desk on 29.08. I stayed in this hotel about 40 years ago and the service then was excellent.

It's a lovely hotel in a good location. Pity about the internet charges for use in rooms, but at least the foyer (with free internet) is very relaxing.

Room 218 with own roof terrace, loungers, table & chairs, sea view. Perfect.

Our stay was good. The room was adequate which is to be expected for the age of the hotel and it would be a shame to alter this as it would ruin the traditional hotel. We did have 'a visitor' (cockroach) on the first morning of our stay (we stayed for five nights) but when we reported it to the reception we were told it probably flew in. The receptionist said she'd ask the cleaning staff to spray our room which they did and we saw no more. We enjoyed our stay and loved the pool and surrounding area. The breakfast was adequate, but good for the cost of our stay.

Monopol has a stunning interior. The staff are excellent and the breakfast spread should satisfy anyone. Then again, I'd already anticipated this before I booked.
Disappointed that the Alhambra bar was closed. It looked quite stunning. Also disappointed that the Ocean bar was also closed.
Loved the area but not so much the old busker outside.
To be fair, we visited off-season. Had the facilities been open then I wouldn't hesitate to give it max stars. Parking at the espanlade was not a problem (although it does get pretty full during core day hours).
Given its location, it is probably one of the best places in Puerto de la Cruz.

Lovely old school family run hotel. Loved the photos of their past on the walls. Room was tiny but worked. Shower & mattress could do with a refresh. Perfect location, perfect service from this generation of family. Great basis for Puerto de la Cruz carnival

A lovely charming old building with friendly and helpful staff. Perfect central location on a church square close to the seafront. Plenty of choices for drinking/eating on your doorstep. A quiet haven in a busy tourist hub. Loved it.

Fantastic and convenient location. Gorgeous internal atrium. Unfortunately my room did not open onto the atrium but was in a more modern section of the hotel but it was a very large room with a balcony overlooking a square and the sea walls. It was old fashioned but I was very happy with it. Good selection for breakfast.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, close to the beach, restaurants and parking (either free or paying) and has a beautiful Canarian patio; however, the hotel needs some serious refurbishment as it is old. Additionally, the walls and doors are really thin, could hear the conversations that the maids had on our doorstep every morning or when they were hoovering in nearby rooms... For some reason, they always start cleaning the rooms at 8 am (which I find weirdly early).
We were also very unlucky that Oktoberfest (yes, in August) was being held in Plaza Europa, which our room faced to, so we would hear the band's music all day from noon until 1 am. If the terrace and bathroom windows were better/newer, this would not be a problem.
Having said all of the above: perfect location and super comfortable beds, with a ceiling fan that provided extra ventilation.
If you're travelling on a budget, this hotel might be fine.

I liked the upgrade to a room with a balcony and direct access to the pool area. The room was spacious with heaps of wardrobe space. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was tasty and plentiful.

The hotel is situated in a wonderful location, central to the historical Puerto De la Cruz, shopping areas, and lots of wonderful restaurants. The Hall is wonderfully full of Palm tress..
The breakfast is good and generous.
The only issues are that the internet is free and unlimited only in the hall area. You get 30 minutes free in the rooms. The water was cold in the morning and warmer in the evening.

Located in the old part of Puerto De La Cruz, the Monopol is a very old building that has been added to, so it's interior rambles across levels and floors. The rooms at the front overlook a pedestrianised square with the church on the other side. It is a lively haunt of buskers, living statues and roaming entertainers, so it can be a bit noisy. We loved it! The front balconies get the sun and a view of Mt Teide, the seaview balconies at the back don't get much sun (none in the winter) as they face North. There's no a/c but there are ceiling fans. The swimming pool is heated saltwater and there are 2 sun terraces in addition to the space round the pool. The breakfast it of a reasonable standard and price.

A pleasant historic hotel in a prefect position.
The Manager and staff were exceptional.

Fab hotel, breakfast is poor, staff are excellent.

I love this hotel with its old world charm and perfect position. However, I have stayed there several times for short stays and I have to say that this year I noted a slight fall in standards. Breakfast was poor and our bathroom needed some updating - the shower screen over the bath was far too small and the floor was soaking after a shower - I'm surprised they haven't had leaks into the room below.
I don't know how long they have been open post covid restrictions but I hope that over time they will be able to improve the facilities and services.
I will stay there again, at least once more.

You cannot beat the location of this hotel right in the centre of town with many rooms having sea views. Staff are friendly, the breakfast is goods day there are a number of restaurants nearby.
It has a nice swimming pool, a hot tub and sauna.
Beds are comfortable, rooms are nice and spacious although they are slightly dated.
Something to be aware of is there is only WiFi in a beautiful central area of the hotel.
Overall this is a great value hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

Amazing location and view, in the middle of everything, walking distance to everything

The hotel foyer is beautiful. The public rooms are fine. The breakfast was efficient and felt very safe. However, we were upgraded to their min suite. Terrific, except we could not open the door from the outside. No maintenance man was available - a cleaner could open it by kicking it, which we were invited to do as a means of access. We did not find that acceptable. We changed rooms. The fridge did not work. All the electrics looked ancient, but the balcony was great. We were only there for three days and were pleased to leave.

Always good value for money and right in the heart of the town. Breakfast good, rooms large and clean. Our 3rd visit and will go back.

A great location right in the centre yet the hotel blended in to the surroundings of traditional canarian architecture. The history of the hotel is fascinating and we really enjoyed staying there and we would stay again.
2.0 / 5.0
friendly staff, excellent location, attractive patio in typical cannarian style, good breakfast, average evening meal, plenty of quiet areas, 3 good sunbathing areas with lots of sunbeds usually available.
1.5 / 5.0
This is an old style hotel with a lot of character - especially the lobby area. It is also very central of the town with lots going on outside. Breakfast reasonable.
Front reception is efficient but not at all very friendly / communicative; rooms are very simply furnished with only 30 mins free wi-fi which is complete pain (but free in lobby area), narrow single beds pushed together / light weight / mover across the floor; very limited soap supply (definitely bring your old); no tea & coffee / kettle in room; the main bar is closed; and lobby area roof covered in blue plastic cover which makes it dark / spoils the effect; some noisy building works going on. Overall a bit disappointing / trading a bit off former reputation.

his is a lovely little hotel. No fancy reception area but a beautiful courtyard style lounge area. We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. All clean and tidy. The position of the hotel is fantastic - right in the centre but pretty much on the sea front. Breakfast was buffet style and there was a decent choice. Have stayed there before and will stay again.

Lovely 'old fashioned' hotel in central area of town. Great self service meals and helpful polite staff for whom nothing was too much trouble.

Really recommend this hotel.

Have been before 13 years ago and still as lovely now . This hotel is a gem , it’s an old traditional canarian building with all its charm and character. The rooms are spotlessly clean although they could benefit from a bit of updating. Staff are charming but some of the reception staff could do with some smile lessons .

The Monopol has a lot of old world charm in a great location. It is very handy to the large free car park near the harbour. I would say the staff vary from pleasant and polite to quite gruff.
Our room was kept very clean and tidy but the bed was a bit hard. It wasn't a proper double but two singles pushed together. There was a good breakfast available. We would return again because of the atmosphere and its position.

Enjoyed staying at the Monopol, it is perfectly placed for all amenities in Puerto del la cruz. Breakfasts were very good with plenty of choice.

This is an old traditional hotel ideal for exploring Puerto de la Cruz. The decor is in keeping with the old building but a little dated in the room. A warm welcome awaits you and many people have returned for years. It isclean and has a modern pool area. If you want modern minimalistic this isn't for you. If you want family values give it a go.
2.5 / 5.0
We chose this hotel because of its central location, and enjoyed being so close to all the local amenities. There was an excellent view of the harbour from the swimming pool terrace and we were able to watch some of the Pre-Carnival Gala evenings from there which was great!
Although our room was small, it was equipped with everything we needed and was clean and well maintained. The staff were all friendly, helpful and were easy to communicate with as most spoke good English.
The reception staff were very helpful and informative with whatever questions we had. The Lady on reception gave us the correct information for reporting a purse that had been stolen while we were at Los Gigantes. Beware pickpockets at tourist locations - they know their business!
We were particularly happy with the breakfast buffet which was plentiful and no-one was rushed. The staff in the restaurant were extremely attentive and focussed on their work in keeping a steady stream of cleared tables and refilling platters of hot and cold foodstuffs.
