Very comfortable hotel in the centre of Bath, close to the Roman Baths and restaurants. Excellent staff who were really focused on customer service and on making our stay a great experience. I hope to stay here again when next in Bath

We were extremely happy from the moment we stepped into the hotel. The spa facilities are amazing and the general ambience delightful. We will most definitely return

This is a regular stay for me and always enjoyable. Service is generally excellent and the spa is fun. My only criticism this time would be the cooked breakfast- nasty puck like hash browns and not a great sausage. I expect better given the level of service elsewhere. Stick to the continental brekkie.

Well worth a visit.

Incredible location. Immaculate and stunning spring pools

really nice hotel , pricey and breakfast £40 !

Couldn’t be better placed for the major sights of Bath. The suite was a great standard and the extra touches very pleasant. Great gifts and little touches that made all the difference. If I had one criticism, there were three of us in the suite. It should have been set up with each towel size times three and the same for toiletries.

Never stayed in a 5* hotel before so nothing to compare it to but definitely seemed a high quality hotel.
Disappointing that my pregnant wife was not even allowed to sit in the pool area though

I stayed here for my birthday and it was absolutely phenomenal. The breakfast was the best I’ve ever had, and the staff could not help you enough! The Spa facilities are small but never busy and exquisite. I left feeling like a new person- thank you so much!
4.7
Lovely rooms with luxurious linens, towel heater in bathroom. Spa is fabulous, and I had an excellent massage. Recommend hotel highly.

Enjoyed our stay. Very centrally located. Nice pool (however very short hours for guest..a little disappointed) service at restaurant and bar was friendly and efficient.
Room was big, clean and comfortable!
4.7
Old school unique hotel. note, NO parking, and if you have a car, finding you way around the tiny one way Bath city streets to park your car in some random lot is challenging! Especially as the GPS doesnt work so well there. But. There's nothing like this place anywhere. Oh and another thing, the cooked English breakfast was 40 pounds, and easily the worst I have eaten for a while. Go out into the city for that!

Breakfast was dreadful

Everything, everything, everything was absolutely perfect
4.7
Lovely luxurious classic hotel with a great spa but over priced breakfast. That said we would happily book again.

A very nice hotel, spa is very clean and relaxing. The hot breakfast was a bit slow. Had a lovely break, will return. A very nice gift for our anniversary in the room.

Set in the very centre of Bath, this hotel is ideally situated. It was a very late booking for me and I was initially drawn in by the available parking, but because I didn't receive the welcome email as I was already on my way, I missed pre-booking and never discovered what this was, having to park in a nearby underground park for the two days I stayed (£36). The hotel accessibility is very easy if you're NOT driving, but difficult if you want to unload outside (Road works when I was there) although the walk from the underground car park to the hotel was very easy with a wheeled case. Once in the hotel, everything is superb. Very polite & friendly staff who remembered my name (Something I could never do!), the rooms are spacious, bed large and comfortable, there is a Pod coffee machine, gown and slippers available. My room faced a quiet street, got the sun and was lovely. Let's be honest though, the main draw of this hotel is the fact there is a Roman Bath and Spa underneath. Guests get to use this free of charge for two hours in the morning and evening and you get full access if you have a spa treatment. Even during a free visit, it is never particularly busy, and the warm pools and saunas are a unique joy that are worth the extra you may have to pay over other hotels. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gainsborough and don't think you can go wrong with this hotel if you're staying in Bath. Recommended.

We booked this trip as an anniversary treat. There’s so many hotels to chose from but this one stood out from the others / the photos gave it the extra edge. We arrived 30 minutes early as had arranged the hotels parking facility (not the cheapest but quite conveniently located) sadly we couldn’t check in until 3pm so waited in the reception with the concierge. After a short delay we were given our room at 3:20 not quite ideal as we felt awkward waiting in the reception whilst other delayed guests got taken to the bar for a free refreshment! Although I asked for a high rise floor for a better view sadly our 4th (top) floor room only had half a window view due to high plinths on the exterior. I approached reception to see about moving rooms to level 3 which had full window views. Sadly we were shown a rear room overlooking the close by offices. We decided to just sit it out in our darkened room. I strongly suggest the hotel make this clear on their booking system - top floor rooms are restricted in size and are much darker because of the plinth outside. The manager did call us the following morning bank holiday Monday asking if we wanted to move rooms / she did apologise again. We negotiated a visit to the Spa area at a time which suited us due to the restrictions on hotel guests usage of the Spa. It’s a shame the usage for hotel guests is limited to certain times. Our midday visit only had 2 other people using the areas. Overall we'd go back again - by far the best location.

This was a lovely hotel, centrally located, with complimentary spa access four hour per day. What more could I need?
(The only not great thing is the shower design which tends to splash water all over the bathroom if you’re not careful.)
4.7
Excellent hotel and facilities. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful throughout our stay. My only criticism would be the air-con in the room which was not effective and remained at a high heat despite getting a member of staff to help adjust and lower the temperature. Overall, an excellent stay and I would well recommend!
4.7
This property is unique for the natural hot springs that flow into its gorgeous spa on the lower floor, which is available free to hotel guests for two hours each morning and evening. Breakfast was outstanding, as were all members of their staff. I took one star away due to our mattress - it was so bouncy —not horrible but certainly not good. Otherwise, this place is five-star.

We only stayed one night, but it was fantastic and I wish we could have spent more time here. The hotel is very upscale and beautiful. The spa is absolutely amazing. We booked a spa room, but there was an issue with the plumbing, so they notified us ahead of time that we were upgraded to an executive suite and still had full access to the spa. The breakfast was good, but a little pricey for what it is. The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. The views from our room were great. And, the room itself was super clean and very comfortable. I will stay here again on our next visit to Bath.

Excellent service

Perfect stay ! Lovely clean rooms, great staff and great all round experience. Highly recommend!

Reception staff were excellent and accommodating in helping when needed going above and beyond. Breakfast was good though set and service were below par as they were very much understaffed resulting in lots of delays, complaints and unhappy staff. Could do better on this given the luxury status. Spa was also full one day and broken the next.
4.7
The hotel has the best location, the staff is a tad inattentive: hanging up the phone and not responding to our calls

Comfortable with good venue

I felt like I was in Heaven! Everyone was friendly, kind, and helpful! It’s a beautiful hotel with an elegant design with intricate details. I especially loved the daily Bath Spa and treatments! Emily and Hana treated me well there!

Fabulous property; very attentive staff. Three saunas!!! The thermal bath is incredible and a must do if you stay. The hot chocolate machine after your bath in Bath is NOT to be missed❤️🇬🇧

The Gainsborough is right in the centre of Bath, which was a great spot for exploring the town and going out in the evening. The spa is really lovely, beautifully kept and a joy to send time in. Wish we could have stayed a few more days! It was especially thoughtful of the hotel to provide us with a card and bottle of wine in the room knowing I was celebrating my birthday. Thank you.

Outstanding hotel, would thoroughly recommend.

In house thermal pool and spa, only one Bath. Central location. Best place to stay in all of Bath

Great, great, great!
Staff was super helpful. Hot spring bathing was amazing.
We enjoyed their afternoon tea. The bar was great and Chris the bartender was creative with his drinks and sociable.
Highly recommend the Gainsborough.

We had a very nice experience at The Gainsbourg in Bath. The hotel is beautiful and renovated with good taste for moderna design though keeping the old historical building at it's best. Great location just a few steps from Román Baths, Cathedral and Putneu bridge makes a perfect match to enjoy the city and relax at the spa pools after a day of sightseeing. Would come back for sure and will book some of the other hotels around the World from the same company. Thanks a million to help as enjoy Bath!
