As a family of mums sisters aunts and nieces we have 2 weekend breaks together each year. This is our favourite destination so far. Perfect for peace nature and walks! The accommodation was stunning in every way and provided great facilities for self catering!

Not only is it a very attractive period property, it is very warm, very well kitted out with plenty of comfortable furniture and extremely well equipped. Great walks from the door and super welcoming pub down the road with limited choice but excellent food. We also had Easter Sunday lunch in the Blue Lion in East Witton which was excellent.
If it is chilly weather and you fancy lighting the wood burning stove, do take plenty of wood as it needed loads to get any heat out of it. We loved seeing the bunnies on the lawn and the sound of the bird nightlife.
We also charged our car from the outdoor socket that was enough to keep us going all week. Happy to pay extra for this. I would definitely go again.

This is our second visit to this lovely property and certainly won't be our last!
A very enjoyable stay in a top class house in what is a lovely part of Yorkshire. Our host, Donna, was extremely good in all communications, and the house had everything we needed as a family. Lots of great walks and a cracking pub just down the road.

Superb cottage, well equipped, plenty of space downstairs for the group to spread out, great views yet in the heart of the village not far from the pub. Hosts were very helpful

Was great- beautiful house- beautiful location. Difficult to find at night in the dark as house names not easy to see- but no other issues!!
Wish we had be able to stay longer!

Outstanding property in the Yorkshire Dales. Very comfortable beds (American queen) with high quality linen. Lovely AGA in the kitchen for a real homely feel. The upstairs bathroom has a very low beam that catches you out if you are not careful. The village is remote - no shops and only one pub that was closed the whole week we were there. There are lovely walks right from the cottage; a walk to the Wensleydale Heiffer makes for a lovely lunch (prebook.)

This was a wonderful property, located within driving distance (long enough to enjoy the scenery) to all the spectacular places in the National Park. There were great walks from the house, a great local pub a three-minute walk away, and friendly helpful locals (we had a flat tyre fixed by local legend Basher!) - could not have asked for a lovelier place. Great hosts too

Property was clean, warm well equipped. Beds were very comfortable with high quality linen. Kitchen had a plentiful supply of crockery. Location was good with amazing views to wake up to. Few minutes walk to local pub. Would love to stay here again in summer to enjoy the large garden and walks. Hosts Donna and Mark were lovely, very responsive and happy to help. Fabulous weekend away
The location is absolutely amazing. Perfect for 6 friends. The area has amazing restaurants nearby we visited the Wensleydale Heifer and the Saddle Rooms at Forbidden Corner. There is a lovely friendly community pub in the village but nothing beats coming back to a warm and cosy home. The house was very clean and well stocked. Just the perfect long weekend, we would highly recommend.

One of summer holidays in the countryside
The property was exactly what we prefer to stay for 2 family (2 adults and 2 children in each family). It’s not easy to find a perfect holiday home for 8 if you prefer en-suite bedrooms and large kitchen and living rooms. The property has a large and beautiful lawn where our kids utilised perfectly by kicking football around whenever they get chance. Bbq, outdoor seating are perfect. Ground area of outdoor alfresco dining arrangement needs attention. Location is remote but this is we wanted, although there is pub nearby and locals are lovely. Property was clean and kitchen and utility was perfect for larger family and cook meal in the evening. I never used an AGA cooker before but it wasn’t hard at all and didn’t take long to manage my cooking. It’s a perfect cottage in the countryside and Donna, the owner came back straightaway on my queries.

Xmas in July
Perfect for a summer get together of family and friends after Covid cancelled Christmas 2020. The property is perhaps nicer than the pictures suggest; weather was also perfect - a pleasant surprise!

Fabulous
The property is amazing! It has stone floors downstairs, so perfect for dogs. It has 4 large bedrooms, with lovely cotton bedding and comfortable beds. There’s plenty of kitchen equipment and a beautiful Aga which challenged us but we enjoyed it! The garden is large and has the most amazing views, beautiful. We did some good walks with the dogs from the property. We’ll definitely be back!!

Stunning property in the most wonderful location
We had the most wonderful stay at Carlton Old Hall - so much so that we are currently planning our next visit!
The house is beautifully decorated, very clean and has everything you need for a break away. It was lovely exploring the house and looking at all of the original features (of which there are many) and the views from the house are utterly breathtaking.
The whole booking process was so easy and straight forward, and Donna was so friendly and helpful.
I can't recommend this property enough. We had a very relaxing break and can't wait to return.

Stay in Carlton Old Hall
We had a lovely time staying in a Carlton. House is well maintained and right in the heart of the village, walkable to local pub and perfect for walks around the countryside. House is well specced, with great kitchen (loved cooking on the Aga) and living spaces. We also had good weather so enjoyed sitting outside admiring the view.

A second visit to Carlton Old Hall
This was our second visit to Carlton Old Hall as a family and it did not disappoint. The house is beautiful and very warm which was welcome with the weather outside (wind, rain, hail, snow and sun). We were greeted by a well stocked hamper and also wood for the open fires (which had plenty of use). There was also plenty of entertainment and the welcome addition of an Amazon Fire Stick meant plenty of choice at night.
The owner has been very responsive and made booking a pleasure. It is obvious they really want guests to be happy and will do all they can to make sure of it. I would certainly recommend to anybody.

Fabulous house and exceeded expectations
Beautiful property full of original features. Great location with walks straight from the back garden. Good beers at local pub but drinks better than the landlords welcome...overall great break and would definitely return if staying in same area again.

Gorgeous period property in North Yorkshire Moors
Our group enjoyed a wonderful time at Carlton Old Hall. It's been thoughtfully renovated, has a high-end feel, from the tasteful decorations, quality white goods and was spotlessly lean and tidy. Little extras like a welcome basket, coffee pods for the nespresso machine and even a brand new picnic basket with utensils (which alas we couldn't use in December!) made this property feel more like a home than a rental.
There's a lovely pub, the Foresters, a five minute walk which serves good pub grub and is child/pet friendly. The town of Leyburn is a 12 minute drive away where you can get all the provisions you need, i'd recommend Campbell's for local fruit/veg/meat and savouries, there's also a decent sized Co-Op and a host of good pubs and restaurants as well.
The big plus with Carlton is the access to the Yorkshire moors and dales, and the field directly accessed from the house was a great spot for kite flying. There's a couple of really nice 4 mile walks directly from the house as well.
Booking is really easy, Donna has made the whole process very easy and the welcome book at the property has clearly had a lot of thought put into it as it has all the information you need about the property and location as well as some great suggestions for things to do.
We would highly recommend this property and are looking forward to returning ourselves.

Beautiful, cosy hideaway from the Yorkshire weather
We had a fantastic long weekend at Carlton Old Hall, the house was spotless, warm, cosy and a great size for our extended family of eight. The cosiness of the house was certainly appreciated when returning home from watching the cycling World Championship in horrendous weather! The views from the house were wonderful and the runner in our party appreciated the routes straight from the door. Donna was great to deal with, really responsive and provided us with all of the information that we needed to settle in in advance of our arrival. Check-in was quick and easy. Would recommend the friendly Forester's Inn just down the road for food and ales. We'd love to come back to explore more of the area. Thanks!
