German Village is a historic neighborhood just south of downtown Columbus, OH. Initially platted in 1814 in Columbus' South End, German Village was generally developed between years 1840 and 1914. It was settled largely by German immigrants in the mid-1800s. German descendants at one time comprised as much as one-third of the population of Columbus. Restoration began in 1959 and the Historic District was established in 1963. German Village was the FIRST historic district in the U.S. and it remains a model for all that came after. In the year 1974, German Village joined the Historic Register. Today, more than 1,600 preservations have been completed.
Purdy Haus dates to at least the year 1910 when it was occupied by a woodworker/barber George C. McMillin. Nearby homes date between years 1884 and 1888, so it may be older.
Walk everywhere - sidewalks are wide - people are warm - parks and restaurants are plentiful! And German Village is central to everything in Columbus.
Schlage keypad instructions will come separately.

Our cottage's architecture is known as a "story-and-a-half vernacular". It has two levels with two bedrooms in what was once a single upper open loft/sleeping area. We recently split the sleeping area into 2 private bedrooms with a new wall and door and additional A/C unit. The ceiling on this level follows the slope of the roof, common in German Village cottages. The main living area sofa can be converted into a full size bed too (bedding in inner compartment).
The sleeping arrangements can accommodate 6, plus the bonus of a pack-n-play for a young child/infant.
A full laundry is on the lower level in the historic basement; basic detergent/dryer sheets provided. Watch your head and step down the old cement stairs (used to be on the exterior - the old "storm" cellar)!
If dark, please touch the Schlage logo on the electronic lock to light the keypad!

Welcome to the historic German Village neighborhood and this historic property! This is a historic property with its historic idiosyncrasies, especially its story-and-a-half vernacular architecture and exposed brick walls but also its steep, narrow staircase characteristic of the 1880s. The old storm cellar access has been enclosed but those stairs are the original cement. Baby gates are available.

So nice to be in wonderful proximity to all things German Village! Especially loved being within a very easy walk to Schiller Park!

We really enjoyed our stay. We met up with our daughter, passing through from Dover AFB to Wichita Falls TX for training. Small, but cozy. We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurant. Neighbors, for that matter, everyone was so kind. Absolutely recommend.

A wonderful oasis in the heart of German Village. Multiple restaurants less than five minutes walking from the house. We absolutely loved our stay.

Wonderful hosts. German Village is a great location to stay. And the accommodations were as advertised. Very comfortable with everything we needed. Would stay on another trip at this property.

Located in German Village, this eclectic property is just around the corner from the famous Schmidt's Sausage Haus and very convenient to downtown. However, there were a few bumps with this booking. Wi-Fi login information was not provided with the door security code or with the arrival instructions and I had to ask for it to be provided by the next day. It also wasn't in the welcome book when I arrived. I booked based on the ad, which said there was parking on the property. Please note when booking, the parking is on the street, away from the cottage on the other streets and you will need to "fight" with the locals for parking. Home entrance is down the alley, not on a main street so single female travelers beware. When I reached out to the property manager, they were quick to respond and I commend them for making things right when I had issues with cleanliness. There were issues with sheets being clean when I arrived. Be aware the space is very small including the bedrooms and single bathroom, which are up a very old narrow staircase, and not safe for young children or toddlers. They do provide baby gates. It's quaint and quirky but not somewhere I would stay in the future as a single traveler or someone used to "extras" as part of the welcome packet provided by other 5-star property managers. Definitely good for young couples or friends traveling together or looking for that Boho feel.

The place was cozy and comfortable. The location was perfect. We were able to walk our dogs two blocks to the park each day which was very helpful. The restaurants were within walking distance and space for parking within the neighborhood was always available.

This house worked perfectly for what we needed. We were in town for Thanksgiving and needed a place that was close to family who lived about a mile away. We walked to the Schiller park and our four year old had a blast. Parking on the street was never a problem and quite close to the house. Overall it was exactly what we needed and it worked great for our stay.

A great location in German village. Historic home with everything you need. A home away from home. When we come back to Columbus we'll definitely stay here again. Thank you!

Everything felt so clean and cute, very comfortable beds, we really loved the fans upstairs for noise, lots of good info in their binder and very easy to park! Super happy!

We thoroughlyl enjoyed our stay. The home is quaint and nicely restored and decorated. The kitchen was nicely furnished and the bedding and towels were very nice. Even with one bathroom for 3 adults and one kid, we did just finne and had room for ourselves or to be together. We had a minor situation wtih a low battery on a smoke detector and the host was very responsive even when I called after 10 pm to ask about it. Overall a great little spot convenient to a lot of neat things and an area that is wonderful for walking. The park that is close by is huge and beautiful!

This property is perfectly located within steps of Schmidt's and a 10 minute drive to OSU campus. It worked out ideally for our family as we got our daughter settled in to her campus apartment as she gets ready to start her master's program.

Clean and conveniently located in the center of German Village, this house had everything my daughter & I needed for a weekend stay. The neighborhood is delightful! The hosts are communicative and helpful. Five stars!

The house was conveniently located in German village. I had a great time there with my wife and our two small puppies. Everything was great with the exception of the outdoor patio area. The benches were mildewy with moss and the grass area appeared to have had lots of pets, and didn’t feel comfortable sitting in the grass. We would definitely stay there again.

Both houses I visited were nicely appointed, perfectly equipped, with comfortable beds and great towels. I personally didn't stay long but German Village is a fantastic neighborhood with great restaurants! A must see and the best place to stay in Columbus!

As the title suggests, the stay was fantastic. Jennifer was an excellent host and the property was exactly as described. Very quiet and cozy, well-appointed. The neighborhood of German Village is beautiful and very walkable, with a ton of restaurants and shops nearby, and downtown a quick car ride away.

We stayed there because of cottage being very close to our friends and family in German Village. The home was very nice and had everything we needed. Jenny was very easy to work with. The location was great. Within walking distance to everything in the village. Parking was not much of an issue but when parking on alley stay 20 feet from the entrance. Would stay there again.

Loved the location and the home is absolutely beautiful. We had a lot of fun in Columbus. Only feedback would be the door lock system. I would recommend a hard key or a combo without the need to download an app. Thank you for hosting us!

House was perfect for our stay, only issue was one bedroom didn't have air and it was warm. We would use it again.
