The place is wonderful located just in the middle of the old town, with a refreshing pool and nice and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was very nice.
Access to the old town is not great, which is understandable, but clearer directions on how to access and where to park would be appreciated.

Sleeping in a medieval city was a nice experience. Touring medieval Santa Pau was special.
The location is unbelievably difficult to find. The only way we could arrive at the hotel close to drive up a one-way street which was so designated. Much better directions I needed in order to find this hotel. And also, it was very difficult and unpleasant to eat breakfast with so many flies around the food.

The atmosphere of Sant Pau village, the special hotel which located in an ancient building, the kindness of he owner, the breakfast, Every thing
Nothing.

It was out second stay at Cal Sastre. The first one was in 2017 and it left great memories. The second time was not different. We were warmly received by Eva, owner and manager of the hotel. Eva is tireless to help you with anything you can possibly imagine. She handles the hotel and takes care of the breakfast. The rooms are cozy and very clean. Great atmosphere! The restaurant is handled by Eva’s husband, Jesus. What to say about the food? Well, people come from Barcelona to eat at the restaurant. Jesus prepares the best gin tonic ever and will surprise you with all sorts of drinks, “amuse bouches” of all types and a great, really tasteful food. You just feel at home with Eva and Jesus. Looking forward to the next time!!

Having read the excellent online reviews I was looking forward to staying at this hotel. However, I came away very disappointed with the experience.
Good points - location; the hotel is situated in the heart of the beautiful medieval village of Santa Pau.
The room was comfortable and atmospheric (as you would expect from such an old property). However, I did not need to be repeatedly told by the owner that it was 'fantastico' and 'perfecto' - please let me make up my own mind. The bath with an overhead shower was in the bedroom - not a problem for us but possibly not to everyone's taste. Little things let it down. For example, plastic rather than glass tumblers for water and towels that were clean but had clearly seen an awful lot of use.
The breakfast was barely adequate and was served (or rationed-out) by the owner. No fruit juice, just water, some meat, toast, one croissant and a badly cooked omelette - on request. One morning, I made the error of taking a croissant from the counter rather than waiting to be served and was, literally, shouted at by the owner.
We ate at the hotel restaurant. The food was good but did not meet my high expectations given the reviews I had read. My overall impression was that the restaurant's aspirations (or pretensions) to fine dining had not quite been met. In my opinion it was also overpriced. Watch out also for the 'extras' - 4 Euros for a bottle of water, 4 Euros for bread and a non discretionary 10% service charge.

such an amazing, lovingly restored property in a medieval village. the location could not have been more perfect. picturesque beyond words.

The hotel was in an excellent position situated in the main historic square. The hotel manager, Eva, was a gem - very knowledgeable and had such energy.
Dogs barking in the village kept us awake during the night.

Everything! Really nice location in the center of a medieval town (reachable with a car). Excellent restaurant, nice rooms and an incredible welcoming host! Thanks Eva for everything! A place to remember and to return to.
Really nothing!

Aba was an excellent host. The hotel had historical interest and a comfortable homely feel. It was well located to see the area.

perfect placements inside this beautiful historic town. Perfect accommodations, very nice thematic interior design. Owners take care of every small detail. The same name restaurant is also excellent. Excellent value. Great experience. Very recomendable.
4.7
The hotel had lots of character and was clean and well presented. The village and surroundings are lovely.
There was no atmosphere at all - there were hardly any guests and we had to call a number to check in as there were no staff either.
The breakfast was very repetitive - it was exactly the same three days running within no choices!

I love the historical feel of the village & the castle, and surrounded by mountainous beauty.
Nothing.

Lovely hotel and location. Very friendly and welcoming owners and the restaurant food was outstanding

Hosts were excellent. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were good. We visited mid-week in May and the village was almost empty, which suited us just fine. We hiked the trail from the village to Castell de Finestres and it was outstanding.
4.7
Every single detail in the hotel was given great consideration from the way the building had been renovated and decorated to remembering exactly what each guest liked for breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for Eva who made every effort to suggest interesting walks and made us a picnic to take with us. She helped make my husband’s birthday special too .
There was nothing about our stay that we disliked

El Sastre restaurant was closed in the evening
