About this cottage rental
We cannot wait to welcome you to Avalon, your new home away from home! Located a short and scenic walk from downtown Saugatuck, Avalon's location ensures that you and yours will be close to everything that makes this area absolutely magical: restaurants, galleries, waterfront entertainment, and so much more. We look forward to helping you unwind, relax, and create unforgettable memories in the greatest little lakeside town in the midwest.
The space
BEDROOMS:
Avalon has three bedrooms (two upstairs, one downstairs), each equipped with queen-sized beds with brand new mattresses. The all-season, wraparound porch also has two twin beds located on opposite sides and is particularly well suited to younger visitors.
Upstairs Bedroom 1 - Queen bed, luggage rack, shelving
Upstairs Bedroom 2 - Queen bed, dresser, closet, HD TV
Basement Bedroom - Queen bed, closet, HD TV, Blu-Ray Player
BATHROOMS:
The upstairs bathroom is equipped with a bathtub/shower, and toilet.
The basement bathroom has a shower and toilet.
Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided in both.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The basement bathroom has a macerating toilet. This means that it can *ONLY* handle waste and toilet paper. Attempting to flush anything else will unequivocally cause the toilet pump to break. Because of this, we emphatically request that guests flush nothing more than toilet paper: no wet wipes, sanitary products, cotton balls, any products marked as "flushable" or "septic safe", etc.
LIVING/DINING:
The open-concept living space - with two dedicated seating areas - is full of comfy, cozy seating options, blankets galore, and easily accommodates everyone without feeling cramped or crowded. The full suite of AV equipment is fully updated, everything from the HD TV to the stereo system and record player is brand new, and plays well with newer technology (e.g., bluetooth).
The dining room table can easily accommodate six people, with seating for an additional four at the kitchen counter.
And the bar. Did we mention the bar? We’ve got a full dry bar set up with pretty much all the glassware and cocktail making equipment you would need to have a wonderful time, along with a couple of our favorite cocktail books.
KITCHEN
The kitchen and island area were fully remodeled in the past several years, incorporating all new appliances, including a gas stove. We’ve made sure that the kitchen is equipped with everything you might need to cook the meal of your dreams. This means sharp - yes sharp! - knives, blender, coffee pot, tea kettle, cooking essentials (e.g., sugar, flour, cooking oils, a wide variety of spices and seasoning blends, etc.), hand mixer, baking dishes and trays, and more.
OUTDOORS
Situated on a ⅓ acre lot, Avalon has plenty of outdoor space - particularly wonderful in the warmer summer months. While the front yard is not fenced in, the large backyard and patio area are fully fenced in to ensure guests’ safety. The patio itself has a large gas grill, and ample seating for everyone in your party. The backyard itself has additional seating - particularly nice when used around the firepit.
PARKING
There is parking for three vehicles at Avalon: two (2) spots off of North Street and one (1) off of Holland Street in front of the garage. Please be mindful that the parking pad off of North Street is shared with our neighbors to the left, and their portion should not be blocked. We also ask that you do not park in the grass. Be careful backing out onto Holland street from the garage parking. Cars tend to drive faster than the posted 25-mph speed limit, so use caution when pulling out.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house, as well as the detached garage. There are several locked storage areas, but all rooms and spaces are available to you. The garage, in particular, has a variety of things to keep you entertained across all seasons, from sleds to beach chairs, coolers, and umbrellas. There’s also a second refrigerator/freezer located in the garage that is particularly useful.
Other things to note
The most important thing to note is that the basement bathroom has a macerating toilet.
The other thing to note is that we have one (1) security camera set up in the detached garage. This is to ensure your safety if/when accessing the refrigerator, recreation equipment, etc.
Keep in mind when checking for availability that Summer check-in/check-out is Sunday to Sunday. If you're not seeing the listing, you may need to update your search criteria. In the off-season, there is a two-night minimum, with greater flexibility regarding check-in/check-out days.....
