About this house rental
This antique farmhouse has been restored for your enjoyment! Includes four bedrooms, a large open loft bedroom space with two additional beds, 2 full baths, living room and large family room. The Kitchen boasts custom black walnut counter tops, a large custom island with seating for 6, new stainless appliances and breakfast nook. Step out to a larger dining room space surrounded by windows. This is your home away from home!
This post and beam home sits on over 6 acres and abuts 77 acres of conservation land with walking trails known as Cato’s ridge. This home was once a barn built in 1808 and sits across from the Little Jones River and Dennett Pond. The house is on a quiet street yet convenient to highways, restaurants and beaches. The front yard boasts the oldest black walnut tree in Massachusetts – it was here before the Pilgrims were!
Guests will have a key pad code to front door. Parking for 4 cars only unless private event booked separately. This is enforced especially due to snow plowing on roads in winter etc. The public walking trails can be accessed from the backyard or path just down the street just off the driveway past the river. Guests can take a meander through the back fields and down the trails if they wish. Kitchen also includes convection oven and stove top, microwave, coffee maker, tea pots and all the items for your cooking needs. Air conditioning in summer. WIFI password provided and Cable Television (includes HBO) included. The reservation is for you and your booked guests only and not for any additional guests. No dinner parties or other private events for those not booked with us unless approved by us and extra charges may apply. No working fireplaces and fire pits not permitted.
Mike or Jen can greet guests unless traveling. We are available and will always give our guests some history of the area and let them know exactly what places to visit after getting to know them and what their preferences are. Plympton has some hidden gems, Plymouth is very close by location and there is something to do for everyone all year round!
Plympton is a very historic town, quiet and quaint town yet conveniently located. It is full of horse farms, cranberry bogs and road side farm stands. Check out the Sauchuk Corn mazes in the fall or the Farm to table dinners at Just Right Farm in the summer within the town. Down town Plymouth is just 15 minutes away.
We are also minutes from Duxbury, Kingston, Carver, Middleboro or Plymouth. Plenty of local beaches/restaurants/shopping, 1 hour from Boston, 5 minutes from the commuter rail into Boston, and 30 minutes from the Cape Cod Sagamore Bridge.
If you are looking to just get away and enjoy the nature trails yet be close to everything than this is the spot for you.

A great historical stay

Beautiful property, antique lovers dream, nostalgic and soothing

We made reservations last minute and were fortunate enough to have 2 nights at the Black Walnut House. What a beautiful place! We really wished we had one more day to stay and just hang out at the house. The mornings were so beautiful sitting outide and drinking coffee. Not an overly comfy situation/layout for watching a movie but the downstairs living room was great for a family game night with our adult children! The Black Walnut Tree in the frontyard is a photo op.for sure!!! I would definitely go back!!!

Mu family was very comfortable and had an amazing time spending Thanksgiving. Very clean, cable was fine, plenty of hot water and comfortable bedding. Location was 18 minutes to downtown Plymouth, which was fine for us. Highly recommend this property.

House is beautiful! There was plenty of room for all of my family and we loved using the oversized dining area for a game night. Host was fast to respond to any concerns. Hope to be able to visit this amazing home again!

While the home is beautiful and was advertised correctly as it related to size there were a few issues that lead to a less than positive experience.
First, the description clearly states the house has air conditioning. This may not seem like a big deal to some, but for our group this was critical in the selection process for our weekend stay. The riders endured 90 miles in 90+ degree heat and could not physically cool down inside of the home. The kitchen AC unit is not adequate to cool an entire floor (even with all of the windows/doors shut), the other AC unit in the bedroom provides only 1 cool room for the entire house. And the AC unit upstairs kept shutting off due to an electrical issue which I will address. Readings from the kitchen Saturday night at 9:30 pm read 81 degrees and the loft read 88 degrees! If you plan to advertise your home to guests as being climate controlled then you need to drastically improve what is currently being offered. As a result of the discomfort related to the heat 8 guests left that night and had to stay in hotels/drive hours home.
Second, the electrical system kept shutting off all night. As a result of the electrical inconsistencies the ac unit in the loft kept going off, which exacerbated the heat situation. Not to mention the WIFI kept resetting and those without service had no way of contacting anyone. Again, I understand that certain things are out of your control (i.e. heat may have put pressure on the electrical grid), but it is difficult to enjoy your stay when you have to get up from dinner every 5 minutes to avoid eating in the dark - let alone host guests.
When I tried working with the host I received very strange excuses and unprofessionalism. I am very disappointed and would not recommend renting this again.

This house was perfect for a girls getaway weekend. Close to Plymouth. Stayed cool in July with the AC units provided. Beds were comfy. The kitchen and sunroom space are beautiful and the kitchen was very functional!

This is a beautiful and very interesting home! The history behind this home is amazing and it was fun to dig into the stories as well as all the items and trinkets within the home. We weren't there long enough to explore the large property, but is was a beautiful area and well kept. Just as in other reviews, you are staying in a very old home so don't expect many modern conveniences although they have done a good job in making it as comfortable as possible, while remaining true to its history. The bugs in the Summer are quite flourishing so be careful not to leave doors or windows open as they will love to come in and stay with you. Fun place, thank you!

Beautifully restored home in an idyllic setting. Owners were accessible and promptly answered when we had questions. Comfy beds, gorgeous kitchen and dining room added to our stay. Don’t hesitate, this home is a treat to stay in.

Lovely! The only complaint was not enough towels in the bathrooms for the number of beds provided.

Beautiful house and is exactly as portrayed on VRBO site. We were two families with adult children attending a wedding in Bridgewater. We enjoyed a morning outing at Plymouth which is 15 minutes away. Very clean and beds were comfortable. If we were to stay here again we would bring chairs to sit on the back patio area as it was a beautiful weekend.

Home is historic and therefore does not have modern updates.

This home was a historical beauty. We felt like we were going back in time each time we walked through the door. The home is beautifully decorated with antiques but had all the modern conveniences you would expect to enjoy. Jennifer was super easy to contact and always replied quickly. We had a nice stay!

Generally, this house was a comfortable, excellent location for us to spent a weekend. We were six adult men and found that it was a place large enough for people to have space, but also to enjoy the woods, to enjoy dinners and conversation together, etc. I recommend it highly! And Jen was very good with communication and anything we needed.

House in the countryside one hour from Cape Cod and one hour from Boston. For people who really takes care as some materials / furniture are fragile. It is really an experience.

Beautiful antique home with modern conveniences. Good location. Very comfortable for two families. Downstairs bedroom should go to the toughest of your party, as it might be a little colder downstairs in the winter, but it is a comfortable house throughout and it was well worth the reasonable price we paid, less expensive than many other homes in the area, particularly the beach houses of similar size (if you can even find one this big). This place is worth the visit even if you hardly leave the house.

The Walnut grove house is stunning. Beautifully restored, great charm and fully equipped. Lots of space to spread out and be together: perfect for a 10 day family vacation. The only inconvenience was no washer and dryer. When traveling with kids especially in the hot summer having the ability to wash clothes on site would have made it perfect.

We recently rented Jennifer's house for a two night stay for a group of 8 and it worked out perfectly! The kitchen was well equipped (a larger stock pot for cooking pasta would be a nice addition), clean and spacious. Bathrooms were nicely updated and the beds were very comfortable. The feature that everyone loved was the dining room table...what a great room!! Overall, the house was spotless & suited our needs to a tee. Jennifer was great to deal with & provided all of the information we needed ahead of time. I would absolutely rent this house again. Thanks Jennifer!!

What a wonderful, beautiful house to stay in for a weekend away! We had our Girl's Christmas Get Together here and it was the perfect choice. Just exploring the house itself was a treat - it had all kinds of character and stories. The area is wonderful, close enough for us to go into Plymouth Center for Christmas Show on Friday night, Saturday woke up to coffee brewing, breakfast and off to a Craft Show, worked up an appetite for a great late lunch at a restaurant we found, then back for our Christmas Party. We couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the weekend - a beautiful retreat to make the upcoming Holidays so special! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!
