About this house rental
Charmingly decorated to reflect past and present, this woodland cabin on 24 private acres and 5 mins to town has 3 log bedrooms and 2 bathrooms one of which is a period style bath w/Jacuzzi tub! This has a spacious country style living room offering amazing views, has a wood stove with glass front to enjoy a dancing fire. Extremely well stocked cook's kitchen will make any gourmet smile. The 9' long dining table looks out over flowering gardens and blueberry patches in summer or snow covered meadows in winter.
The log staircase extends from the living room to large bedroom loft with breathtaking distant views of the green mountains and Stratton Mountain ski resort.
Another cozy log bedroom is adjacent the kitchen.
Our front lawns and meadow once used as a private landing strip for the original hunters lodge.
Behind the home another 5 acres offers access to plush pine woodlands and private nature trails that lead to a babbling mountain brook. Don't be surprised if a wild turkey crosses your path on the property.
Vacation rentals of more than 3 days will allow access to laundry room (washer and dryer).
Given the winter hideaway location it is strongly suggested that guests have 4 wheel or all wheel drive type vehicles.
THINGS TO DO (besides downhill skiing):
Viking Nordic Center (see their description below)
Viking Nordic Center's acclaimed trail system winds through beautiful Vermont countryside, with scenic vistas, past beaver ponds and along the West River. The trails offer something for everyone. Our 27 kilometers of ski trails are groomed and offer terrain for all abilities. We also offer 4 kilometers of dedicated snowshoe trails. All of our trails are open to fat tire bikes based on snow conditions. Kids of all ages can search for cookie stations on the trails and claim a sweet reward in our cozy cafe when they've found them all. We also offer night skiing, group and individual lessons, and equipment rentals.
Vermont Country Store (see their description below)
We are The Vermont Country Store, the Purveyors of the Practical and Hard-to-Find. Step back in time as you browse our aisles of long lost products that still work as well today as they did "back in the day!" From countless jars of penny candy to Vermont's finest selections of locally made cheese and meats, to problem-solvers for your household to toys for the littlest ones, you'll feel like you took a step back in time and become a kid in a candy store when you walk through our doors! Hours for Summer beginning on May 29th 8:30-7:00 daily.
Wild Wings Ski Touring Center (read their description below)
Wild Wings is a family friendly Nordic ski touring center. We are located in Peru, a small Vermont town, high up in the Green Mountain National Forest. Our trail system consists of loop trails that will satisfy all skill levels of cross-country skiers. Need to rent skis? Our rental shop is fully stocked with all sizes of classic equipment.
Traditionally, our trails have served classic cross-country skiers, but in 2018 we built a new 3k trail to accommodate both classic and skate skiing.
Weston Playhouse (see below)
As Vermont’s longest-running professional theatre, the Company celebrates the classics and nurtures the new with a multi-stage summer season of rollicking musicals, family-friendly productions, classic plays, and ground-breaking new works.
The Weston Priory - Beautiful Benedictine Monastery - (according to review below)
The Weston Priory is over 50 years old and the 10 or so brothers who live there follow the Benedictine way of life and also focus on peace and social justice. They have a beautiful property and offer hospitality to visitors who join their services. The services are unlike typical catholic mass and instead are full of music, silence and inspired words offered from the heart by the brothers. The winter chapel is small but beautiful and summer services are in a large old barn. Communion is offered.
Noted resorts include Stratton, Bromley and Magic Mountain.
Cabin style window panes offer brief glimpses of the Green Mountains from each room making this little cottage a great place to escape the concrete jungle and enjoy some quiet time.
The home is heated principally with propane, offers optional wood heat in the form of a lovely old stove together with a plentiful supply of locally harvested firewood.
Our front lawn once considered for use as a landing strip for a private plane, gently slopes away, opening up to a broad vista of mountains, offering a spectacular array of bright hues - particularly in autumn.
The back of the home offers immediate access to plush woodlands. Private nature trails meander through the woods to a babbling mountain brook, providing a place for quiet reflection. Don't be surprised if a wild turkey or two cross your path as you explore your own private woods.
The back of the house has immediate access to private trails that lead into denser woods.
Vacation rentals of more than 3 days will allow access to laundry room (washer and dryer).
Given the winter hideaway location it is strongly suggested that guests have 4 wheel or all wheel drive type vehicles.
