About this lodge
Situated in the south of Cairngorms National Park, Gulabin Lodge is brilliantly located for walking, biking, skiing (in season) and visits to Scottish castles including Balmoral, which is just 40 minutes away.
The delightful towns of Braemar, Ballater, Pitlochry and Dunkeld are all close by and are reached by driving on some of Europe's most spectacular roads.
Walk or cycle from our front door, or take your car to one of the many nearby Munros, lochs and rivers. Several whisky distilleries are within easy reach, each offering tours and tastings. You can fish, hunt and swim without going far from us.
There's plenty to do at the Lodge as well. We have two comfortable lounges complete with games, a piano, a glockenspiel and loads of books. The large dining room easily seats 35 and can be configured to suit your needs. The views of the mountains are spectacular!
Cooking is no problem thanks to the well-equipped kitchen that includes two ovens with electric hobs, a microwave, three fridges and a freezer. There is plenty of cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, plus pots and pans of all sizes.
Five of our nine bedrooms are on the ground floor. They're set out in Austrian Tyrolian style with a lower level and a mezzanine accessed by a stair ladder. A great fun way to spend the night! Those on the mezzanine levels can look at the stars through the Velux windows.
The remaining four bedrooms are on the first floor and are more conventional in their layout. There's a double room, a twin and two bunk rooms.
The Lodge's biomass boiler powers the underfloor heating and hot water. If you want to cosy up even more, both lounges have fireplaces and you can buy wood from us at cost.
Summer 2024 sees the opening of our new outdoor seating area and kitchen, complete with seating, a covered food prep space and a BBQ. It's a great space to enjoy the mountain air and relax with a drink.
We have a pop-up cafe that opens on busier weekends in the high season. Guests are welcome to wander into the log cabin on the Drive next to the Lodge. We serve freshly ground artisan coffee and a range of teas, as well as hot chocolate, all at competitive prices.
Our large paddock is great for a kickabout or perhaps a game of volleyball (bring your own equipment). We have connections with local event specialists who can come and put on a Highland Games activity day. We can also put guests in touch with water sports and adventure organisations; group pickups can be arranged for those who prefer to be chauffeured to and from their chosen activity.
