Clean and comfortable. Employees were hospitable and welcoming

I've stayed there before and had a wonderful experience. This time, I apparently booked a "pet friendly" room, even though I didn't have a pet. They are on the ground floor, which is below ground level, there are no comforters on the beds, and the rooms are bare and cold. There was a giant cockroach greeting us on the wall in the morning. If you stay here, beware of the pet friendly rooms.

Not so good , my family and I stayed 2 nights in this hotel and let me tell you those room need insulation badddd , the room got so cold and only option of heating was using a mini split that’s connected to an outlet by the wall that did not let us sleep because of how noisy it was , both nights that we were there we kept waking up every hour or so and got absolutely no rest with how loud and noisy those old mini splits are , the water inside shower always took about 2 minutes to get hot and it smelled funky through out our entire stay , unfortunately we will not be staying here again as we also had more issues not mentioned to say the least .

Its pretty old and feels like needs a lot of clean.

Great service! Loved the lobby and care put into decor. This is a family owned business and though some parts are not updated, perhaps even a bit run-down, we did not mind the old wallpaper or old ceilings, and had a great stay. It was very clean, the bed was comfy and the pillows were really great.
The staff was accommodating and kind. We left very happy and would stay again. (We had a deluxe room on top floor. Loved the balcony and view,)

Excellent customer service in a funky, retro style hotel. The Halloween decorations were a great touch! Perfect location for the zoo!

It was perfect for a quick overnight stay. Close to Universal Studios, Forest Lawn HH, LA Zoo, Griffith Park. Convinence to Universal was the main part. We were able to check in early. Without charge.
The Shower, the room either had steaming hot water or extremely cold water. No warm water, which made the shower horrible.

Had a little bit of a situation that made us have to leave in the middle of the night but the staff were really accommodating to that and really helpful with that.

It was not clear that an extra charge for parking was required. The room and bathroom were very clean . That was great! Could use more comfortable seating in rooms and better lighting.

Parking isnt that great and tou pay for it came back late with an 11 year old parked on street and when I asked if I could be refunded for the parking he guided me around the other side if the building for additional parking instead of giving me the refund and it was past 12 two females. Also the corridors are very long so alot if walking didnt appear to have another entrance in the otherside and I wasnt told about it either.

We were only there to stay the night as we were going to Universal Studios and planning to be there until closing. We didn't spend much time there but it was totally adequate for the purpose, the price was right and I was able to get a room the day before we needed it. We'll be back!

hotel is pretty clean,
low water pressure in the shower,
nice, clean pool,
staff is average,
funky decor but not in a good way,
Overall thoughts: for the price, totally worth it. We were safe, plenty of parking, good location near the freeway entrance, and close to good food options.
I would definitely stay again at the rate I paid.

My stay at the glendale express was definetely not what I expected. The images shown on the website are far from accurate to the reality. The bathroom fixtures were all stained, lights were faulty, the main door was damaged and the lock was faulty, bed was stiff. They make this hotel seem like it is much better than what it truly through the images that possibly once were. A renovation is definetely overdue whether its on the room or on the images they share.

1 – Shower water pressure was sad. When coming out of the bathtub spigot, it was a roaring waterfall, but when you puil up on the little metal thingy to divert the water to the showerhead, it was a sad stream (I tried all the showerhead settings).
2 – The bathroom has those rectangular drop-ceiling type of tiles. The one directly above the showerhead was extremely bowed, as if there had been water pooling on it from above OR a weighty object was pushing it down. The photo I took doesn’t really show it well.
3 – There are 2 switches in the bathroom, one for the lights above the mirror and another switch that presumably turned on the heat lamp on the ceiling – the switch did nothing so either the lamp was burnt out or the switch didn’t work. We weren’t sure if there was also a fan within/behind the heat lamp unit. The air vent from the bathroom was EXTREMELY linty/dirty so I don’t think there was a fan at all.
4 - On the wall by my daughter’s bed (the wall shared with the bathroom), there were 4 (yes, FOUR!) electrical outlets (3 standard and one round outlet similar to a 240v like your dryer uses at home). One of the standard was dead, the other sparked when my daughter plugged her phone charger in, but thankfully the third worked. I hadn’t brought any laundry appliances with me from San Jose, so I couldn’t test the round outlet.
5 - The sliding glass door to the outside mini-balcony had no latch guts to lock the door closed, so to keep it closed/locked there was a little chai

Staff was nice upon arrival. Rooms were clean and spacious. Check in was easy and the location is near the freeway which was nice. Area was quite even tho the freeway was near. Only thing we didn’t like is we paid $10 for overnight parking and when arrive after a day of exploring there was no parking availabe, so that was $10 wasted. Overall, experience was good and if I’m in the area I would consider staying here again.

This is our second time in this hotel and would greatly recommend it. For the price to pay, its worth a place to stay compare to the other hotels close by. This is my family’s recommendation when going to Universal Studios.
